Overview
Pokemon Pokopia offers three distinct fast travel methods for getting around the island quickly: Return Home, the Fly specialty, and the Teleport specialty. Each serves a different purpose. Return Home lets you warp between regions, while Fly and Teleport transport you to a specific Pokemon's location within the same zone. The game also provides physical transport through Ditto Transformations (traversal moves like Glide, Surf, and Rollout) and player-built rail tracks with a handcar.
Return Home
Return Home is the primary cross-region fast travel system. Press the + button to open the Pokedex menu, then select the house icon in the bottom left corner labeled "Return Home." A region list appears; choose which area to travel to, and Ditto is instantly warped there.
For Return Home to land at a specific house, you must have placed a Ditto Flag on a house in that region. If no flag has been placed, you are teleported to the nearest safe location in that area instead. The Ditto Flag recipe is given by Professor Tangrowth early in the Withered Wasteland and requires 1 Sturdy Twig, 1 Twine, and 1 Leppa Berry, crafted at a Workbench.
Return Home is the only method that lets you travel between the five major regions: Palette Town, Withered Wasteland, Bleak Beach, Rocky Ridges, and Sparkling Skylands. Fly and Teleport only work within a single region. There is no cooldown on Return Home; you can use it as often as you like.
Fly Specialty
The Fly specialty does not work like traditional Pokemon Fly (picking a town on a map). Instead, it transports you directly to a specific Pokemon you are searching for within your current region. This makes Fly one of the most useful tools for tracking down Pokemon that have wandered away from their habitats or gone missing.
How to use Fly:
Have a Pokemon with the Fly specialty following you as your companion.
Open the Pokedex and find the Pokemon you want to locate.
Press the + button to start searching for that Pokemon.
Talk to the Fly Pokemon following you.
You are instantly transported to the target Pokemon's current location.
If the target Pokemon is hidden or sleeping, you may need to use Honey to make it reappear after arriving. Fly only works within the same region; it cannot take you across region boundaries. For cross-region travel, use Return Home instead.
All Fly Pokemon
There are 23 Pokemon with the Fly specialty. Pidgey and Hoothoot are the easiest to obtain early in the game through a Pretty Flower Bed habitat.

Both transport you to a specific Pokemon's location within the same region using the same Pokedex search process. The choice between Fly and Teleport comes down to which Pokemon you have available and what second specialty you want from your travel companion.

Other Travel Methods
Ditto Traversal Moves
Ditto can learn traversal moves from befriended Pokemon that provide faster physical movement across the world. These are not instant warps like Return Home or Fly, but they dramatically speed up exploration. Key traversal moves include:
Move | Learned From | What It Does |
|---|---|---|
Surf | Lapras | Cross bodies of water by transforming into Lapras. Press B near water. |
Glide | Dragonite | Glide through the air from high points. Press R mid-air. Hold B for faster descent. |
Waterfall | Gyarados | Swim up waterfalls while surfing. Press A at the base of a waterfall. |
Rollout | Graveler | Roll at high speed across flat terrain, smashing through objects. |
See the Ditto Transformations article for the complete list of all 14 traversal abilities and their unlock requirements.
Rail Tracks and Handcar
Players can craft rail tracks and a handcar as part of the building system. Once placed, rail tracks create a fixed transportation network that you ride along on the handcar. This is especially useful for connecting frequently visited areas like resource gathering spots, settlement centers, and region entry points. Unlike Fly, the handcar provides a physical route available at any time without requiring a companion Pokemon.
Unlock Timeline
Method | When Available |
|---|---|
Return Home | Very early: Ditto Flag recipe from Professor Tangrowth in the Withered Wasteland |
Fly | Early: attract Pidgey or Hoothoot via a Pretty Flower Bed habitat |
Teleport | Mid-game: attract Slowking via Seaside Tall Grass, or find Abra |
Glide | Late game: befriend Dragonite in Sparkling Skylands (4th region) |
Rail Tracks | Available once crafting recipe is obtained through progression |
Tips
Place a Ditto Flag in every new region as soon as you arrive. This makes Return Home a reliable warp point for each area.
Keep at least one Fly or Teleport Pokemon in each region so you can quickly locate any wandering Pokemon.
Pidgey is the earliest Fly Pokemon most players attract. Build a Pretty Flower Bed habitat to recruit one.
When a Pokemon goes missing from its habitat, use Fly or Teleport to find it instead of searching on foot.
Fly Pokemon often have useful second specialties. Charizard (Burn), Corviknight (Chop), and Dragonite (Water) pull double duty as both travel companions and workers.
Teleport Pokemon with the Trade specialty (Alakazam, Gardevoir) are especially useful since you can fast travel and then trade items at your destination.
Build rail tracks between your settlement and frequently visited resource spots to save time on repeat trips.
The legendary birds (Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres) all have Fly as their only specialty, making them dedicated travel Pokemon in the post-game.
