Overview
Ditto's core mechanic in Pokopia revolves around learning moves from befriended Pokemon. Rather than combat attacks, these moves function as environmental tools for building, farming, exploring, and traversing the world. There are 14 transformation abilities in total, unlocked progressively across the four story regions and one post-game unlock. Ditto physically transforms parts of its body when using a move (partial transformations), while four moves trigger full-body transformations where Ditto takes on a complete Pokemon shape.
Controls
The main controls for Ditto's transformation system:
Button | Action |
|---|---|
ZR | Use the currently equipped move |
L (hold) | Open the radial skill wheel to select a move with the left stick |
D-pad Left/Right | Quick-cycle through unlocked moves |
R | Jump (also activates Glide when pressed mid-air) |
B | Run / Surf activation near water / Accelerate while Gliding |
Y | Pick up items / Inhale / Suck Up Liquids (when near water) |
A | Interact / Headbutt trees / Waterfall (while Surfing at a waterfall base) |
The skill wheel appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen alongside the PP gauge (a curved blue bar). The radial menu shows all unlocked moves at once, while the D-pad quick-switch cycles through them sequentially.

PP Cost Categories
All moves consume PP from a shared pool. However, moves fall into different cost categories:
Category | Moves | How PP Works |
|---|---|---|
Per-use | Water Gun, Leafage, Cut, Rock Smash, Rototiller | PP consumed only when the move connects with a target. Swinging at air costs nothing. |
Continuous drain | Surf, Glide, Rollout | PP gradually decreases while you remain transformed. Exit the transformation to stop the drain. |
Zero PP cost | Jump, Strength | Confirmed to consume no PP at all. |
Headbutting trees (A button) is also free and does not consume PP.
Full-Body Transformations
Most moves only alter specific body parts (arms become Squirtle cannons for Water Gun, claws extend like Scyther blades for Cut) while maintaining Ditto's human appearance. Four moves trigger full-body transformations where Ditto takes on a complete, comically small Pokemon form:
Move | Form | Description |
|---|---|---|
Surf | Mini Lapras | Ditto becomes a tiny, adorable Lapras that floats across water surfaces. |
Rollout | Graveler Ball | Ditto curls into a Graveler shape and rolls at high speed. Difficult to control; easy to accidentally destroy things. |
Glide | Mini Dragonite | Ditto morphs into a small Dragonite with a goofy face. Cannot gain altitude; gradually descends. |
Magnet Rise | Magnemite Shape | Ditto becomes a Magnemite. Free vertical flight with block manipulation. The most powerful transformation. |
Food Upgrades
Four moves can be temporarily powered up by eating specific cooked meals. Food upgrades are unlocked in Rocky Ridges after rescuing Chef Dente, a Greedent NPC wearing a pot as a chef's hat. Each meal also fully restores PP.
Food | Recipe | Upgraded Move | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
Simple Soup | Cooking Pot + Fresh Water | Water Gun | Increased spray range and coverage |
Simple Bread | Bread Oven + Wheat | Cut | Cut objects from a distance; slice through metal grating and bars |
Simple Hamburger Steak | Frying Pan + Beans | Rock Smash | Break hard materials (granite, stone, steel, crystal); collect gold and iron ore |
Simple Salad | Chopping Board + Leaves | Leafage | Creates quad grass patches; enables duckweed on water and moss pulling from rocks |
No food upgrades have been documented for the remaining moves (Jump, Surf, Strength, Rollout, Rototiller, Camouflage, Suck Up Liquids, Glide, Waterfall, Magnet Rise).
Innate Abilities
In addition to the 14 learned moves, Ditto has several innate abilities that do not require learning from another Pokemon:
Ability | Control | Function |
|---|---|---|
Headbutt | A button (near trees) | Shake trees to collect berries and items. Zero PP cost. |
Stockpile / Spit Out | Y to swallow large items | Store oversized items (furniture, blocks) inside Ditto's body, supplementing regular inventory. |
Blob Reversion | Automatic | Ditto reverts to its natural pink blob form to squeeze through tight spaces and access hidden areas. |
Tips
Moves only cost PP when they connect. Practice aiming before committing to expensive continuous-drain moves like Surf and Glide.
Eat cooked food before tackling difficult areas. The PP restore plus move upgrade makes a huge difference.
Rock Smash with Hamburger Steak is the key to accessing many hidden areas. Carry ingredients for Hamburger Steaks when exploring Rocky Ridges.
Glide does not gain altitude. Always launch from the highest point available to maximize distance.
Rollout is fast but hard to control. Avoid using it near structures you do not want destroyed.
Unlock Magnet Rise as your first post-game priority. It transforms the building experience entirely.
Revisit earlier regions after unlocking new moves. Areas that seemed like dead ends often have hidden paths accessible with later abilities.
Use the L button radial wheel for precision move selection instead of D-pad cycling, especially in tight situations.
Jump and Strength cost zero PP, making them safe to use any time without worrying about fatigue.
