Overview
Moltres is a Fire/Flying-type Legendary Pokemon in Pokemon Pokopia, classified as the Flame Pokemon (Dex #296). It is one of the three Legendary Birds from the Kanto region, alongside Articuno and Zapdos. Moltres has the Fly specialty, allowing it to carry you directly to any Pokemon you are searching for in the Pokedex.
To befriend Moltres, players must build the Altar of Flame structure in Palette Town. This volcanic-themed shrine requires rare materials like Gold Ingots and Lava Rock, making it one of the more resource-intensive Legendary Bird builds.
How to Obtain
Moltres cannot be encountered through standard habitats. Instead, you must build the Altar of Flame, a large-scale construction project in Palette Town.
Finding the Kit
The Altar of Flame Kit is located on the northwestern island of Palette Town, on top of the altar structure. You may need to climb or use a Fly-specialty Pokemon to reach this elevated location.
Construction Materials
Material | Quantity | Source |
|---|---|---|
50 | Smelt Copper Ore from Rocky Ridges | |
50 | Gold mining areas | |
50 | Volcanic zones in Arcanine Dream World | |
10 | Advanced crafting material |
The Altar of Flame requires Gold Ingots and Lava Rock, both of which are rarer than the materials needed for the other two bird structures. Gold Ingots come from Gold Ore found in specialized mining areas. Lava Rock is sourced from volcanic zones, with the Arcanine Dream World being a reliable location.
Pokemon Crew Requirements
Specialty | Count | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
Build | 1 | Required for construction |
Fly | 1 | Required for aerial components |
Burn | 1 | Required for fire-related elements |
Crush | 1 | Required for stone processing |
Any | 11 | Fill remaining slots with any Pokemon |
You need 15 Pokemon total assigned to the construction project. Four must have specific specialties (Build, Fly, Burn, and Crush), while the remaining 11 can be any Pokemon. Construction takes until the next in-game day to complete.
Specialties
Fly
Moltres has the Fly specialty. If you speak to a Pokemon with the Fly specialty while using the Pokedex to search for another Pokemon, the Fly Pokemon can take you directly to that Pokemon's location. All three Legendary Birds share the Fly specialty, so once you build the Altar of Flame, you have another fast travel option.

Legendary Birds Trio
Moltres is one of the three Kanto Legendary Birds. Each bird requires building a unique structure in Palette Town:
Pokemon | Structure | Key Materials |
|---|---|---|
Freezing Chambers | ||
Abandoned Power Plant | Copper Ingot, Iron Ingot, Sea Glass Fragment, Brick, Pokemetal | |
Altar of Flame |
Building all three Legendary Bird structures unlocks the recipe for the Tidal Bell, which requires 5 Rare Pokemetal and 5 Silver Feathers to craft. The Tidal Bell is used to summon another Legendary Pokemon. For more information, see the Legendary Pokemon Guide.
Tips
Lava Rock is the most difficult material to gather for this build. Focus on farming volcanic zones in the Arcanine Dream World, where Lava Rock deposits are most abundant.
Gold Ingots require Gold Ore, which is rarer than Copper or Iron. Start mining Gold early if you plan to build the Altar of Flame.
The Burn specialty is needed for the construction crew. Make sure you have a Pokemon with Burn before starting. Growlithe, Arcanine, and other Fire-type Pokemon often carry this specialty.
The Altar of Flame creates a volcanic shrine with torches, lava elements, and heated stone. It looks best on elevated terrain or near warm-themed areas of your island.
You can only build one Legendary Bird structure per day. Since Moltres requires the rarest materials, consider building it last so you have more time to accumulate Gold Ingots and Lava Rock.
