Overview
In Pokemon Pokopia, Ditto learns moves from befriended Pokemon. These are not combat attacks but environmental tools used for gathering materials, traversal, and world manipulation. There are 13 learned moves in total, unlocked progressively as the player explores new areas. In addition to learned moves, Ditto has several innate abilities available from the start of the game.
Each learned move consumes PP from the blue gauge at the bottom-right of the screen. Moves are switched using a power wheel activated by holding L, or cycled with L and R buttons. When Ditto uses a move, it physically transforms parts of its body to mimic the teacher Pokemon, though some moves trigger full-body transformations.
Innate Abilities
These abilities are available from the beginning of the game and do not consume PP:
Ability | Control | Function |
|---|---|---|
Stockpile / Spit Out | Y (press) | Pick up and carry large items in Ditto's body. Use the bag menu to place them with adjustable orientation. |
Inhale | Y (hold) | Vacuum up loose items on the ground nearby. Hold Y to continuously inhale dropped materials, berries, and resources in a wide area. |
Headbutt | Approach tree/object | Knock items out of trees and objects by bumping into them. Costs zero PP and works on berry trees, item-bearing branches, and some structures. |
Inhale is the single biggest time-saver in the game. After learning Suck Up Liquids from Paldean Wooper in Bleak Beach, the Y-button vacuum is upgraded to also work on water, mud, seawater, and hot spring liquids.
All 13 Learned Moves
Withered Wasteland Moves
The first six moves are all learned in the Withered Wasteland, the starting region:
Move | Teacher | Function | Transformation |
|---|---|---|---|
Squirtle | Spray water in a + pattern covering 5 blocks. Revitalizes dried ground, waters crops, cleans muddy surfaces. | Arms become Squirtle-shaped cannons; gains shell and tail | |
Leafage | Bulbasaur | Grow tall grass on dirt and grass tiles one square at a time. Essential for creating habitats. | Arms sprout into Bulbasaur vines |
Cut | Scyther | Chop trees, grass, weeds, and wood piles. Harvests Small Logs from trees for crafting. | Claws extend like Scyther blades |
Rock Smash | Hitmonchan | Punch through soft terrain (grass, earth, sand, hay blocks). Hold ZR for continuous punching. Camera controls direction. | Fists become rocky and hardened like Hitmonchan's |
Rototiller | Drilbur | Till soil for farming. Also picks up plants and flowers without destroying them. Does not work on dry dirt; water the ground first. | Partial transformation |
Jump | Magikarp | Press R to jump. Increases mobility and provides speed advantage when hopping across terrain and climbing blocks. | No visible transformation |
Bleak Beach Moves
Three moves are learned in Bleak Beach:
Move | Teacher | Function | Transformation |
|---|---|---|---|
Surf | Lapras | Press B near water to transform and swim freely. PP gradually drains while surfing. Later upgraded with Waterfall. | Full-body: Becomes an adorable mini Lapras |
Camouflage | Zorua | Transform into nearby objects (furniture, crates, plants). Can move and jump while transformed. Used in the Hide-and-Seek multiplayer minigame. | Full-body: Takes the shape of the target object |
Suck Up Liquids | Paldean Wooper | Upgrades Y-button vacuum to extract water, seawater, river water, hot spring water, and mud. Absorbed liquid can be placed elsewhere or used in crafting. | Partial transformation |
Rocky Ridges Moves
Two moves are learned in Rocky Ridges:
Move | Teacher | Function | Transformation |
|---|---|---|---|
Strength | Machoke | Push and pull heavy objects. Hold A to grab, use left joystick to move. Does not consume PP. Learned after completing Machoke's stone-gathering request. | Arms develop muscular appearance |
Rollout | Graveler | Roll at high speed destroying blocks faster than Rock Smash. Tilt joystick to steer; hold B for faster rolling. Hold ZR while rolling to break materials. | Full-body: Becomes a rolling Graveler |
To find Machoke, create a Grassy Training Field habitat in Rocky Ridges by placing two Sandbags next to a 2x2 square of Red Tall Grass. Machoke appears and asks you to collect 5 stones, after which it teaches Strength.
Sparkling Skylands Moves
Two moves are learned in Sparkling Skylands:
Move | Teacher | Function | Transformation |
|---|---|---|---|
Glide | Dragonite | After jumping with R, press R again to glide through the air. Cannot gain altitude; only descends gradually. Essential for Sparkling Skylands navigation. | Full-body: Becomes a small Dragonite with a goofy face |
Waterfall | Gyarados | Upgrade to Surf. Press A while surfing to travel up waterfalls. Opens access to elevated areas connected by water. | Uses existing Surf (Lapras) transformation |
Gyarados is hidden beneath a stream of waterfalls in Sparkling Skylands. You need to use Glide to explore the region's elevated islands and locate the waterfall area where Gyarados resides.
Post-Game Move
Move | Teacher | Function | Transformation |
|---|---|---|---|
Magnet Rise | Magnemite (post-game) | Fly vertically, place blocks in mid-air, and absorb blocks ahead. The final traversal upgrade providing near-complete freedom of movement. | Full-body: Becomes a Magnemite shape |
Magnet Rise is the last move unlocked in the game. It transforms late-game building by allowing vertical block placement without scaffolding, making it invaluable for ambitious construction projects.
Full-Body Transformations
Most moves only alter specific body parts (arms, hands, claws) while maintaining Ditto's human appearance. Five moves trigger full-body transformations where Ditto takes on a complete, comically small Pokemon form:
Surf (Lapras): Ditto becomes a tiny, adorable Lapras that floats across water surfaces.
Camouflage (Zorua): Ditto takes on the shape of whatever object it is facing.
Rollout (Graveler): Ditto curls into a Graveler shape and rolls at high speed. Difficult to control and easy to accidentally destroy things you want to keep.
Glide (Dragonite): Ditto morphs into a small Dragonite with a silly face, enabling aerial gliding from any jump point.
Magnet Rise (Magnemite): Ditto becomes a Magnemite shape that can fly vertically and manipulate blocks mid-air.
Food Power-Ups
Eating cooked meals fully restores PP and temporarily powers up a specific move. Each food type enhances a different ability:
Food Type | Powered Move | Effect |
|---|---|---|
Soup | Water Gun | Increased spray range; hold ZR to spray over larger areas |
Salad | Leafage | Grow 5 grass tiles in + pattern; can create moss, vines on rocks, and duckweed on water |
Bread | Cut | Extended cutting range; can slice harder surfaces and cut distant objects with ZR |
Hamburger Steak | Rock Smash | Temporarily punch through hard materials (granite, stone, steel, crystal) |
Without power-ups, Rock Smash only affects soft terrain like grass, earth, sand, and hay. The Hamburger Steak upgrade is essential for mining ores and breaking through stone walls. The Rollout move also benefits from Hamburger Steak when using ZR while rolling.
PP (Power Points) System
PP is represented by a curved blue bar at the bottom-right of the screen. It functions as a continuous stamina gauge rather than a fixed counter per use.
Equal consumption: All moves consume roughly the same amount of energy per use. There is no PP variation between moves.
Miss-no-drain: Moves only consume PP if they actually connect with a target. Water Gun aimed at empty air or Leafage used on invalid terrain costs nothing.
Fatigue state: When PP is fully depleted, Ditto suffers reduced movement speed and extremely slow action execution. Eat food immediately to recover.
Exceptions: Surf, Rollout, and Glide drain PP continuously while active. Strength does not consume PP at all.
Recovery Method | Details |
|---|---|
Eat berries/vegetables | Leppa Berries from headbutting trees; carrots from the ground. Free and always available. |
Eat cooked meals | Full PP restore plus temporary move power-up. Best recovery option. |
Pokemon Center | Healing machine fully restores PP for free. Unlimited uses. |
Rest | Sitting in chairs or lying in beds slowly restores PP (very slow). |
PP Up | Purchased from PC Shop (requires Environment Level 3). Permanently increases max PP. |
Move Tips
Leafage + Cut combo: Use Leafage to create grass patches on barren dirt, then use Cut to harvest materials from the new growth. This cycle lets you generate resources from empty land.
Rollout for clearing: Rollout destroys blocks much faster than Rock Smash for clearing large debris areas. Just be careful not to roll through structures you want to keep.
Jump for speed: Even without needing to cross gaps, Jump increases traversal speed. Hopping across flat terrain is faster than walking.
Water before Rototiller: Rototiller does not work on dry dirt. Always spray Water Gun on the ground first before attempting to till.
Surf PP management: PP drains continuously while surfing. For long water crossings, carry extra berries or eat a meal before departing.
Glide from elevation: You cannot gain altitude while gliding. Always start from the highest available point and plan your descent path.
