Overview
Waterfall is a Ditto transformation upgrade in Pokemon Pokopia that enhances the existing Surf ability. After learning Waterfall, Ditto can swim up waterfalls while in Lapras form, opening vertical shortcuts across every region. It is the thirteenth move in the unlock sequence, taught by Gyarados in Sparkling Skylands.
How to Unlock
Finding Gyarados requires you to have already learned Glide from Dragonite. Gyarados is located at the base of a large waterfall on a floating island west of the island with the huge building in Sparkling Skylands.
Gyarados's Request
When you talk to Gyarados, it will ask you to bring it a Bread Bowl. This is a cooked food item. If you do not already have one, you can find three free Bread Bowls in a hidden room near Gyarados's location:
Look for vines west of where Gyarados is sitting.
Climb the vines and scale the blocks of Mysterious Stones.
Enter the room with a stove and locker behind a breakable wall.
Open the Poke Ball inside to receive 3 Bread Bowls.
Give Gyarados a Bread Bowl to complete the request and learn Waterfall.
Controls
Button | Action |
|---|---|
B (near water) | Transform into Lapras (same as Surf) |
Left Stick | Swim in any direction |
A (at waterfall base) | Swim upward through the waterfall to reach the top |
Waterfall does not replace Surf. Instead, it adds the ability to press A while surfing at the base of any waterfall. Ditto remains in Lapras form throughout the ascent.
PP Cost
Like Surf, Waterfall does not consume PP. You can climb waterfalls as many times as you like without draining your stamina bar.
Uses
Many upper platforms in Sparkling Skylands are fastest to reach by combining Surf and Waterfall instead of building block stairs.
Waterfalls in Bleak Beach and Rocky Ridges also become climbable after learning this move, making backtracking through earlier regions faster.
Player-created waterfalls (built using Suck Up Liquids to relocate water to a ledge) can also be climbed with Waterfall, enabling custom shortcuts.
Tips
You must be in Lapras form and swimming directly at a waterfall for the A prompt to appear. Approaching from an angle may not trigger it.
If you are struggling to find Gyarados, make sure you have completed the Sparkling Skylands Pokemon Center rebuild first and have Glide unlocked.
The Bread Bowl can also be crafted at a Bread Oven using Wheat and other ingredients if you have unlocked cooking.
