Overview
Pokemon Pokopia's world spans five distinct regions, and getting between them efficiently is key to managing your growing Pokemon community. Travel methods range from basic walking to soaring through the sky on Dragonite's back. Each traversal ability is learned from a specific Pokemon, unlocked as you progress through the game's regions.
Basic Movement
By default, Ditto walks at a moderate pace. Holding the B button while on the ground does not sprint by default. Instead, speed boosts come from specific moves learned from befriended Pokemon.
Fast Travel (Return Home)
The primary fast travel method in Pokopia is the Return Home feature. Press + to open the Pokedex menu, then select the house icon labeled "Return Home" in the bottom left. This lets you choose from any region where you have placed a Ditto Flag to instantly teleport there.
To enable fast travel to a region, you must first build a house and claim it using a Ditto Flag. Professor Tangrowth provides the Ditto Flag recipe early in the game. The recipe requires 1 Sturdy Stick, 1 Twine, and 1 Leppa Berry. Place the flag inside a house to designate it as your home in that region.
If you have not yet set up a home in a region, Return Home will teleport you to the nearest safe location in that region instead.
Traversal Abilities
These moves provide special movement options beyond walking. Each one transforms Ditto into a form inspired by the teaching Pokemon.
Ability | Teacher | Region | Function |
|---|---|---|---|
Jump | Magikarp | Withered Wasteland | Hop over gaps and onto small ledges. Context-sensitive near jumpable terrain. |
Surf | Lapras | Bleak Beach | Transform into a small Lapras and swim across water surfaces. Consumes PP while active. |
Waterfall | Gyarados | Sparkling Skylands | While Surfing, press A at the base of a waterfall to climb it. Extends Surf functionality. |
Rollout | Graveler | Rocky Ridges | Transform into a Graveler ball and roll at high speed. Smashes through objects and terrain. Hold B to activate. Consumes PP. |
Fly | Dragonite | Sparkling Skylands | Transform into Dragonite and soar over the map. Covers large distances quickly. |
Magnet Rise | Magnezone | Post-game | Float vertically and place or absorb blocks while airborne. Designed for advanced building. |
Surf
Surf is learned from Lapras in Bleak Beach. When activated near water, Ditto transforms into a tiny Lapras with a Squirtle-style shell and floats across the surface. Surf consumes PP while you are moving, so keep an eye on your gauge. Surf is required to cross rivers, lakes, and ocean gaps between islands.
Waterfall
Waterfall is learned from Gyarados, who is hidden beneath a stream of waterfalls in Sparkling Skylands. It upgrades the Surf ability rather than being a separate move. While using Surf, approach the base of a waterfall and press A to climb it. This opens access to elevated areas that cannot be reached any other way.
Rollout
Rollout is learned from Graveler in Rocky Ridges. To spawn Graveler, build the Mossy Boulder habitat inside a cave (requires 1 Large Mossy Boulder and 4 Mossy Grass). Hold B to activate Rollout, which transforms Ditto into a Graveler-inspired ball that rolls at high speed. Rolling into objects, walls, and terrain blocks will smash through them. PP drains gradually while rolling.
Fly
Fly is learned from Dragonite in Sparkling Skylands. It transforms Ditto into a Dragonite form and lets you soar over the landscape. This is the fastest way to cover large distances within a single region. Fly requires completing the main quests in the first three regions before Sparkling Skylands becomes accessible.
Magnet Rise
Magnet Rise is the final traversal ability, unlocked in the post-game from Magnezone. It allows Ditto to float vertically, place blocks below, and absorb blocks ahead while airborne. This is primarily a building tool rather than a general travel method, but it makes constructing tall structures and reaching elevated areas much easier.
Region Unlock Order
Regions unlock through story progression. Completing the main quest in one region opens the next.
Withered Wasteland and Palette Town (available after tutorial)
Bleak Beach and Rocky Ridges (after completing Yawn Up a Storm in Withered Wasteland)
Sparkling Skylands (after completing main quests in Withered Wasteland, Bleak Beach, and Rocky Ridges)
Tips
Place a Ditto Flag in every region as soon as you arrive. Fast travel saves enormous amounts of time as you manage Pokemon across multiple areas.
Rollout is the fastest ground movement. Use it for quick material runs across flat terrain, but be careful not to destroy decorations you have placed.
Fly and Surf both consume PP. Cook food at a Frying Pan or Cooking Pot to restore PP when you run low.
Waterfall spots often hide rare materials and secret areas above. Check every waterfall once you unlock the ability.
The Return Home feature works from anywhere, including inside caves and on elevated terrain. Use it to quickly return when your inventory is full.
