Overview
Scyther is a Bug/Flying-type Pokemon in Pokemon Pokopia, classified as the Mantis Pokemon (Dex #042). Found in the Withered Wasteland, Scyther teaches Ditto the Cut transformation and carries the Chop specialty for processing logs into lumber. Scyther is a common encounter available at all times of day and in all weather conditions.
Habitat
Scyther lives in the Tree-shaded Tall Grass habitat. This habitat is straightforward to build and requires:
Item | Quantity | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Tall Grass | 4 | Place in a cluster; can be grown using Leafage |
Large Tree (any type) | 1 | Any tree species works as long as it is a large-sized tree |
Other Pokemon that also appear in Tree-shaded Tall Grass include Bellsprout, Pinsir, Heracross, Scizor, and Skwovet. Build multiple habitats if you want to attract all of them.
Location
Scyther appears in Withered Wasteland, the game's opening region. Since both Tall Grass and trees are readily available in this area from the start, Scyther is one of the earliest Pokemon players can befriend after learning Leafage from Bulbasaur.
How to Befriend
Build the Tree-shaded Tall Grass habitat in Withered Wasteland by placing four patches of tall grass around a large tree. After a short wait, Scyther will appear in the habitat. Walk up and interact with Scyther to befriend it and learn Cut.
Move Taught: Cut
Scyther teaches Ditto the Cut transformation. Cut allows Ditto to use sharp blades to slice through grass, trees, and other objects to obtain materials like logs and leaves. It is one of the most frequently used moves in the game, as lumber is a core building material.
Cut can be powered up by eating Bread. After consuming bread, Cut gains a larger area of effect and a charge attack that lets you slice through harder materials, including metal. Higher-tier bread recipes provide stronger buffs.
Specialty: Chop
Scyther has the Chop specialty. Pokemon with this specialty can process small logs and turn them into lumber automatically. Place Scyther near a log pile or workshop, and it will chip away at logs during its free time. Chop is also required for cooking the Shredded Salad recipe.

Tips
Scyther's Chop specialty is one of the most valuable early-game specialties. Having a Scyther near your crafting area saves significant time on lumber processing.
To maximize Cut's effectiveness, eat a Bread before going on a harvesting run.
You can also use Cut to bulk-harvest crops by pressing ZR on a mature field, which is faster than picking items one by one with Y.
Furnish Scyther's habitat with bright and wooden items to increase its Comfort Level.
