Overview
Hot springs are a buildable feature in Pokemon Pokopia that attract specific Pokemon and create unique habitats. Hot-spring water can be obtained from natural sources in Rocky Ridges or created artificially using Roserade Tea from vending machines. Placing hot-spring water and combining it with specific items creates habitats that attract Pokemon like Psyduck, Golduck, and Torkoal.
Obtaining Hot-Spring Water
Method 1: Natural Hot Springs (Rocky Ridges)
Natural hot-spring water exists inside the caves in the west area of Rocky Ridges, accessible after completing the Rocky Ridges storyline and meeting Torkoal. These caves have permanent hot-spring tiles that can be used directly for habitat building without needing to move the water. This is the simplest method, as you only need to place a Shower and a Seat near the existing water.
Method 2: Roserade Tea (Any Location)
To place hot-spring water in locations outside Rocky Ridges caves, use Roserade Tea. Roserade Tea is one of five drinks available from powered vending machines. Each vending machine dispenses one random drink per day.
The process for placing hot-spring water using Roserade Tea:
Find a powered vending machine (locations include northern Withered Wasteland near the windmill, and near waterwheels in Bleak Beach).
Interact with the vending machine. You may receive Roserade Tea, Fresh Water, Chili Sauce, Moomoo Milk Coffee, or Soda Pop at random.
If you receive Roserade Tea, drink it. Ditto will inflate with hot-spring water stored in its mouth.
Travel to the location where you want to place hot-spring water. Note: you can only place liquid within the same biome where you drank it.
Press A to spit out the hot-spring water, creating hot-spring tiles on the ground.
If the vending machine does not dispense Roserade Tea, you can wait until the next day or adjust your system clock to reset the daily vending machine inventory.
Method 3: Suck Ability
Players who have learned the Suck Up Liquids ability (taught by Paldean Wooper at Bleak Beach) can inhale hot-spring water from any existing hot spring. Hold Y near hot-spring water and press ZR to inhale it, then travel to a new location and press A to spit it out. This lets you relocate or expand hot-spring water anywhere within the same biome.
Hot-Spring Habitats
Hot-spring water is used as a component in several habitat types. Each habitat attracts different Pokemon:
Habitat | Requirements | Pokemon Attracted |
|---|---|---|
Hot-Spring Shower (#078) | Shower x1, Hot-Spring Water x2, Seat x1 | Psyduck, Golduck |
Mossy Hot Spring | Moss x4, Hot-Spring Water x2 | Torkoal |
Open-Air Bath | Hot-Spring Water + additional items | Various |
Harmonious Hot Spring | Hot-Spring Water + additional items | Various |
Hot-Spring Fishing Spot (#187) | Hot-Spring Water + fishing items | Water-type Pokemon |
The Hot-Spring Shower is the most commonly built hot-spring habitat due to its simple requirements and the popularity of Psyduck. The Mossy Hot Spring can only be built in Rocky Ridges and specifically attracts Torkoal.
Building a Hot-Spring Shower (Quick Guide)
The fastest way to build a Hot-Spring Shower:
In Rocky Ridges (Easiest)
Go to the caves in the west area of Rocky Ridges where natural hot-spring water exists.
Craft or place a Shower near the hot-spring water.
Place any Seat (chair, bench, stool) next to the Shower.
The habitat is complete. Psyduck will begin appearing.
Anywhere Else
Get Roserade Tea from a powered vending machine.
Drink the tea. Ditto stores the hot-spring liquid.
Create or find a pool area (dig a depression or use existing terrain).
Spit out the hot-spring water (press A) to fill the pool.
Place a Shower and Seat nearby.
The habitat is complete.
To make Psyduck appear instantly, apply Honey directly to the completed Hot-Spring Shower habitat. Otherwise, leave the area and return to refresh Pokemon spawns.
Vending Machine Drinks
Each powered vending machine dispenses one random drink per day. Each drink fills Ditto with a different liquid type:
Drink | Liquid Type | Flavor |
|---|---|---|
Fresh Water | Regular water | Bland |
Chili Sauce | Lava | Spicy |
Moomoo Milk Coffee | Milk | Sweet |
Roserade Tea | Hot-spring water | Bitter |
Soda Pop | Carbonated water | Dry |
Vending machines must be powered via electricity to dispense drinks. Connect them to a power source (windmill, waterwheel, or furnace generator) using Utility Poles, or temporarily power them with a Generate-specialty Pokemon.
Tips
The Rocky Ridges caves are the easiest location for a first hot-spring habitat. No Roserade Tea or Suck ability needed.
Use Honey on a completed Hot-Spring Shower habitat for an instant Psyduck spawn instead of waiting.
Hot-spring water placed via Roserade Tea or Suck can only be placed within the same biome where you obtained it.
The Chili Sauce drink from vending machines lets you place lava, which can be combined with Water Gun to create solid walkable blocks.
If the vending machine does not give Roserade Tea, try again the next day. Each machine resets its random drink daily.
Build multiple hot-spring habitats in Rocky Ridges to attract both Psyduck/Golduck (Shower) and Torkoal (Mossy Hot Spring).
