Angler Trial Walkthroughs

Overview

The Angler profession is mentored by Delphin at the AquaBlue Outpost in Half-Moon Bay. It covers fishing mechanics, bait crafting, fish breeding, and deep-sea fishing. Each tier unlocks better rods, new equipment, and access to more fishing zones.

Prerequisite: You must complete the Apprentice Crafter Certification before starting the Angler profession. Check your mailbox for a letter from Delphin, then visit him at the AquaBlue Outpost.

Apprentice Angler

Certification: Catch 3 Fish

1. Visit Delphin at the AquaBlue Outpost in Half-Moon Bay.

2. Delphin gives you a free Wooden Rod and teaches you the basics of fishing.

3. Head to any river, pond, or shoreline and cast your line. No bait is required at this tier.

4. Catch 3 fish of any species. The river near your house is the easiest spot.

5. Return to Delphin with the fish to complete the certification.

Trial: New Finny Roommates

1. Delphin asks you to help Solara at the hotel by delivering fish for her aquarium.

2. Catch 10 fish of any species. Freshwater fish from the river near your house are the fastest option.

3. Deliver the 10 fish to Solara.

4. Solara rewards you with a Cube Aquarium that you can place in your home.

5. Return to Delphin to complete the trial.

Junior Angler

Certification: Deep-Sea Fishing

The Junior tier introduces ocean fishing. You need access to a boat to reach deep-sea fishing zones.

1. Speak to Delphin to start the Junior trial.

2. Complete the Marston port quest if you have not already. This unlocks boat rental and ocean access.

3. Build or rent a boat from the port. Alternatively, you can borrow the community boat at Half-Moon Bay.

4. Sail to a deep-sea fishing zone and catch 10 ocean fish. Ocean fish include species like Sea Bass, Squid, and Pufferfish that cannot be found in rivers or ponds.

5. Deliver the 10 ocean fish to Zerine at the General Store.

6. Return to Delphin to complete the certification.

Intermediate Angler

Certification: Fish Breeding and Glowfish

The Intermediate trial has two parts: fish breeding and catching a Glowfish.

Part A: Fish Breeding

1. Build a Fish Pond on your farm (unlocked at Junior tier).

2. Place compatible fish into the Fish Pond. They will breed over time.

3. Use the Incubator to hatch the resulting fish eggs.

4. Show the hatched fish to Delphin.

Part B: Catch a Glowfish

Glowfish are rare, luminescent fish found only in the Dreamfall Garden area of the Moonlit Forest. They require specific bait and appear in different seasonal variants.

1. Travel to the Dreamfall Garden in the Moonlit Forest.

2. Equip the correct bait for the current season (see table below).

3. Fish in the glowing pools within Dreamfall Garden. Look for sparkling water surfaces.

4. Catch any one Glowfish variant.

5. Deliver the Glowfish to Bruce.

6. Return to Delphin to complete the trial.

Senior Angler

Certification: Fill the Aquarium

The Senior certification requires collecting a wide variety of fish species to fill your aquarium.

1. Speak to Delphin to start the Senior trial.

2. Catch 20 different fish species and place them in your aquarium. You need 3 of each species (60 fish total).

3. Fish across different locations (river, ocean, ponds, Moonlit Forest pools) and seasons to find enough unique species.

4. Show your completed aquarium to Delphin.

Tip: Some fish are season-locked. Plan ahead or focus on species available year-round. Giant Barb can be caught in the river next to your house in any season with any bait.

Trial: Giant Barb Fish Eggs

1. Delphin asks you to produce Giant Barb Fish Eggs for Hattie.

2. Place Giant Barb in your Fish Pond and wait for them to produce eggs.

3. Use the Incubator to confirm the eggs are Giant Barb Fish Eggs.

4. Deliver the eggs to Hattie.

5. Return to Delphin to complete the trial.

Expert Angler

Phase 1: Giant Barb Fish Eggs

If you completed the Senior trial's Giant Barb Fish Eggs delivery, Delphin acknowledges your fish breeding mastery and moves you to the final challenge.

Phase 2: Catch Two Kingfish

Kingfish are the rarest and largest fish in the game. They require at least a Golden Rod or better (Titanium Rod, Solar Rod). You cannot catch Kingfish with a lower-tier rod.

1. Obtain the Golden Rod (crafted as a pre-Expert reward: 1 Noble Rod + Gold Ore + Spirit components).

2. Travel to a Kingfish zone during the correct time window (see table below).

3. Use the best bait available. Bug bait and specialty baits increase Kingfish odds.

4. Catch 2 different Kingfish species.

5. Deliver both Kingfish to Delphin to complete the Expert certification.

Rod Progression

Tips

• Always carry multiple bait types when fishing. Different fish prefer Bug bait, Veggie bait, or specialty baits. Using the right bait dramatically increases your catch rate.

• Invest Workpedia points in Rare Bites and Night Angler perks early. These increase your odds of hooking rare fish, which is essential for the Intermediate and Expert tiers.

• Fish Traps (unlocked at Intermediate) are passive income. Place them in productive fishing spots and check them daily for free catches.

• For the Senior aquarium trial, make a checklist of species by location and season. Some fish only appear in specific conditions, so plan your fishing trips around the calendar.

• For Kingfish hunting, always fish during the correct time window. Kingfish will not bite outside their listed hours, no matter what rod or bait you use.

• The Hooked on Fate Level 3 perk is a game-changer for ocean Kingfish. It lets you catch fish without needing to spot their shadows first, which saves a lot of time circling in your boat.

• Giant Barb is the easiest fish to breed for the Senior trial. Catch several from the river near your house and place them in a Fish Pond early.
