Angler Profession

The Angler profession in Starsand Island is mentored by Delphin at the AquaBlue Outpost in Half-Moon Bay. Fishing is one of the best early money-makers in the game, requiring minimal infrastructure compared to farming or ranching. The Angler profession progresses from basic river fishing all the way to deep-sea Kingfish hunts, unlocking better rods, new fishing techniques, Fish Ponds, and Aquariums along the way. You must complete the Apprentice Crafter certification before starting this profession.

Tier Overview

Apprentice Angler

The Apprentice Angler certification is a straightforward introduction to fishing. Delphin gives you a free Wooden Rod and teaches you the basics. All you need to do is catch three fish from any body of water.

Quest Steps

1. Visit Delphin at the AquaBlue Outpost in Half-Moon Bay.

2. Receive a free Wooden Rod.

3. Equip the rod and approach any body of water (the dock beside the AquaBlue Outpost works perfectly).

4. Look for fish shadows in the water. Hold the cast button to aim your line toward them, then release to cast.

5. When a fish bites, hold the reel button to reel it in. If the line turns red, release briefly to avoid snapping it, then resume reeling.

6. Catch 3 fish of any type and bring them to Delphin.

Apprentice Trial

After certification, accept the New Finny Roommates request from the Bulletin Board at the Community Center. This trial involves catching specific fish for an NPC.

Junior Angler

The Junior Angler certification introduces ocean fishing. You need access to a boat, which requires completing the Starsand Port Construction quest with Marston first. Once the dock is built, you can rent a boat and head out to deep-sea fishing zones.

Quest Steps

1. Complete the port construction quest by speaking to Marston on the beach (if not already done).

2. Head to the dock and interact with the yellow boat to rent it.

3. Sail the boat toward the marked fishing zone in the ocean.

4. Catch 10 ocean fish in total. You can catch them automatically while in the fishing zone, or stop the boat and fish manually with Bait. Ocean fish include species like Moorish Idol, Tuna, Sea Bass, Squid, and Pufferfish.

5. Return to shore and deliver the fish to Zerine at the General Store.

6. Head back to Delphin at the AquaBlue Outpost to complete the certification.

Intermediate Angler

The Intermediate Angler certification has two major components: fish breeding and catching a rare Glowfish in the Moonlit Forest. This tier introduces the Fish Pond, which allows you to breed fish on your property and collect fish eggs.

Part 1: Fish Breeding

1. Purchase the Small Fish Pond blueprint and build it on your farm.

2. Place compatible fish into the Fish Pond along with fish food.

3. Wait 1 to 2 in-game days for the fish to produce eggs.

4. Collect the eggs and hatch them using the incubator attachment.

Part 2: Catch a Glowfish

1. Speak to Bruce about where to find Glowfish.

2. Travel to the Dreamfall Garden area of the Moonlit Forest.

3. Glowfish are rare, luminescent fish found only in this area. They require specific bait and appear in seasonal variants.

4. Catch a Glowfish and deliver it to Bruce.

5. Return to Delphin to complete the certification.

Senior Angler

The Senior Angler certification is the longest fishing quest and requires a broad collection of fish from every zone, season, and rarity tier. You need to have fished extensively across the island and in all ocean zones to meet the requirements.

Expert Angler

The Expert Angler certification is the final test of your fishing mastery. It requires two steps: producing Giant Barb Fish Eggs through breeding, and catching two region-specific Kingfish from deep-sea zones. Kingfish are the rarest and largest fish in the game.

Step 1: Giant Barb Fish Eggs

1. Catch Giant Barbs from the river outside the village or at Cloudrest Lake. Use higher-tier rods to improve your catch rate.

2. Place the Giant Barbs into a Fish Pond with fish food.

3. Wait for the pond to produce Giant Barb Fish Eggs (this can take 1 to 2 days).

4. Deliver the eggs to Hattie.

5. Speak to Delphin to unlock the Kingfish quest.

Step 2: Catch Two Kingfish

You need at least a Golden Rod or better to catch Kingfish. They are found in three deep-sea ocean zones, each with its own exclusive Kingfish species.

Kingfish are region-locked, meaning you will not catch a different region's Kingfish while staying in the same zone. Availability also depends on the season and time of day. Access these zones via your personal boat or the ferry south of Starsand Port.

Tips and Strategy

• Fishing is the best early active money-maker. Sell your catches at the General Store or use them in cooking recipes for higher-value meals.

• Build a Fish Pond as soon as you unlock it at Intermediate tier. Passive fish breeding generates eggs and fish without active play.

• For the Senior certification, keep a running log of which zones and seasons you still need to fish in. The 70-species requirement takes time.

• If the line turns red while reeling, stop immediately. Forcing a red line will snap it and lose the fish.

• For Kingfish, bring multiple Golden Rods or better and plenty of rare bait. These fights take longer than normal fish.

• Check the time of day and season before heading out for Kingfish. If conditions are wrong, the Kingfish will not appear.

• Complete the port construction quest early so you can access ocean fishing zones for the Junior trial without delay.
