How breeding works
Eggs and breeding are completely separate systems. Collecting eggs from your animals does not affect breeding in any way. To breed two animals of the same species, you need:
A male and female of the same species in the same enclosure.
At least one open space in that enclosure.
Both animals must be fed, clean, and happy. See animal cleaning for details.
If those conditions are met, a baby animal appears in the enclosure the next morning. You will not get a notification. Check the enclosure directly. You can confirm by managing the enclosure, where a thought bubble says a baby was born. Each enclosure allows one breeding event per day, and holds a maximum of four animals.
Animals by rank
Animals unlock as you progress through Pastelle's Rancher certification tiers at Green Pasture Ranch:

Beginner Rabbit (75 Coins). Produces Wool. Clears weeds on your farm.
Junior Chicken (300 Coins, produces Eggs and Feathers, controls pests). Duck (300 Coins, produces Eggs and Feathers, controls snails).
Intermediate Pig (650 Coins, finds Truffles). Cow (650 Coins, produces Milk). Snowool/white sheep (650 Coins, produces White Wool, Sheep Saliva, and Sheep Milk). Ebowool/black sheep (650 Coins, same products in black). Bumblebee (400 Coins, produces Honey, helps pollinate flowers).
Senior Horse (1,350 Coins, two-person mount). Spotted Deer (1,350 Coins, rideable mount). Musk Deer (1,350 Coins, males produce Musk).
Expert Alpaca (2,750 Coins, rideable mount, produces Wool). Ostrich (2,750 Coins, rideable mount, produces Eggs and Feathers).
All animals leave poop, which can be collected and used as a fertilizer ingredient.
DNA traits and genetics
Every animal has random DNA traits viewable through the barn or hutch management menu. Traits affect behavior, production, and breeding. Babies have a random chance to inherit their parents' traits, there is no guarantee.
Positive traits:
Workaholic The animal works (produces items) more times per day.
Twins 30% chance of producing an extra offspring when breeding.
Precocial Growth time reduced by one day.
Bulkiness Animals grow larger.
Strong Breeding cooldown reduced by one day.
Optimism 50% chance that Happiness points double when they increase.
Negative traits:
Pride The animal cannot be petted.
Petiteness The animal remains tiny.
Bloom Happiness boost decreases by one point.

Breeding tips
Keep animals fed, clean, and happy every day. Unhappy animals will not breed.
Use the Breeding House to isolate specific pairs when targeting rare varieties like Golden Chickens or Glazed Ducks.
Baby animals inherit traits randomly, breed parents with positive DNA traits like Workaholic or Twins to try to pass them on.
Babies must grow to adulthood before they can breed or be ridden (for mounts).
Each enclosure allows one breeding event per day. Build multiple enclosures for parallel breeding.
