Overview
Starsand Island gives players a deep character customization system split across several stages: the initial character creator at the start of a new save, two in-town shops (Bloom Atelier and Ethereal Styles), and a textile crafting pipeline that lets you produce your own colored fabrics. Gender and name are locked at creation, but hairstyles, makeup, and clothing can all be changed after the fact once you unlock the phone apps.
Character Creator
The character creator runs once at the start of a new save. It offers full color wheels for skin tone, hair color, and eye color, each with saturation and brightness sliders. This replaced the preset palette system from the demo.

Available options include:
Character | Description |
|---|---|
Gender | (male or female, permanent). Determines which clothing pieces are available, since outfits are gender-locked. |
Skin tone | with a continuous color wheel and brightness slider. |
Hair | with multiple style presets and a full color wheel. Any color is possible, including unnatural shades. |
Eyes | with a color wheel, customizable pupil and iris designs, and eyelash options. |
Facial features | across 100+ options: eyebrows, eyeliner, lipstick, blush, eyeshadow, and face paint. |
Unlocking the Wardrobe and Makeup Apps
Early in the game, a physical wardrobe inside your house lets you swap between any clothing you own. However, the full on-the-go customization tools (the Wardrobe and Makeup phone apps) are locked behind the Become an Apprentice Rancher questline. Completing this quest permanently unlocks both apps on your Phone, letting you change outfits and appearance anywhere on the island without returning home.
Quest Steps
Talk to Pastelle at the Green Pasture Ranch. She explains that Lunelle needs Rabbit Fluff for a clothing design.
Build a Rabbit Hutch using Fiber and Softwood Planks.
Purchase four baby rabbits and place them in the hutch.
Wait for the rabbits to mature and begin shedding, then harvest the Rabbit Fluff.
Deliver the Rabbit Fluff to Lunelle at her boutique. She rewards you with an outfit and unlocks both apps.
Return to Pastelle to receive the Apprentice Rancher Certificate.
Phone App Features
App | What It Does |
|---|---|
Wardrobe | Switch between hats, tops, bottoms, full outfit sets, and accessories from anywhere. New purchases from Lunelle and crafted clothing appear automatically. You can save preset outfits for quick switching. |
Makeup | Change hairstyle, hair color, eyebrows, eyelashes, and other facial features on the fly. Uses the same color wheels from the character creator. |
Bloom Atelier
The Bloom Atelier is a beauty salon on the north side of Starsand Town, run by Serena. Open from 8 AM to 10 PM, it handles hairstyle changes and full makeup adjustments. Services cost approximately 1,500 Coins each. Serena can modify eyebrows, eyeliner, lipstick, blush, and face paint, all using the same color wheels from the character creator.

Serena arrived on the island alongside her best friend Stella. The two have been close since kindergarten, and Serena served as Stella's personal stylist during her showbiz career. After Stella retired, Serena followed her to Starsand Island and opened the Bloom Atelier, drawing inspiration from the island's natural beauty.
The Bloom Atelier does not sell clothing or blueprints. For outfits, head to Ethereal Styles across the plaza.
Ethereal Styles
Ethereal Styles is a clothing boutique on the south side of the plaza, run by Lunelle. Open from 8 AM to 10 PM, it stocks a rotating selection of outfits, accessories, and hats. Some pieces are only available for a limited time, so it pays to check the inventory regularly.
Buying out Lunelle's basic stock forces her shop to level up and expand its inventory, unlocking higher-tier clothing options. This is the main way to access better outfits in the early and mid game.
Hats work as a separate slot from hairstyles, meaning you can pair any hat with any hair. This changed from the demo, where hats were tied to specific styles.
Wardrobe Categories
The wardrobe organizes all owned clothing into the following slots, which can be mixed and matched freely within each gender:
Slot | Description |
|---|---|
Hats | Headgear and hair accessories. Equipped independently of hairstyle. |
Tops | Shirts, jackets, vests, and upper-body garments. |
Bottoms | Pants, skirts, and lower-body garments. |
Full Sets | One-piece outfits that occupy both the top and bottom slots. |
Glasses, earrings, backpacks, and other add-ons. |
Clothing and Outfits
The game includes over 200 wearable pieces per body type, designed for mix-and-match. Styles range from Eastern and Western fantasy to casual wear, seasonal outfits, and traditional clothing from various cultures. All clothing is gender-locked.

Ethnic Chinese Outfits
Ten outfits inspired by different ethnic groups in China are included in the base game. Each outfit comes with a matching traditional dance animation that plays when worn. These are part of the broader range of cultural clothing options and show up in the wardrobe alongside standard outfits.
Dye System and Colored Fabrics
Rather than a standalone dye bench, Starsand Island ties clothing colors to its ranching system. Colored wool comes from breeding hued animals at the Breeding House, which unlocks after completing the Intermediate Rancher certification (3,500 Coins). Offspring color is random, and seven wool colors exist: Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, Orange, Cyan, and Black.
The textile crafting pipeline runs through three stations:
Station | Function | Example Outputs |
|---|---|---|
Turns raw materials into thread and rope. | Carbon Line, Fishing Line, Hemp Rope | |
Weaves wool into colored fabrics. | Black, Blue, Cyan, Green, Orange, Purple, Rainbow, Red, White, and Yellow fabric, plus Leather, Linen, and Velvet | |
Takes colored fabrics and patterns to produce finished clothing. | Gender-specific clothing items based on blueprints |
All three stations come together in the Textile Equipment blueprint pack, available from shops. A notable early quest requires delivering seven colored wools (one of each hue) to Pastelle at Green Pasture Ranch.

Three outfit packs are available as of Early Access:

Tips
Unlock the Wardrobe and Makeup apps as early as possible. The Apprentice Rancher quest is straightforward and the apps save constant trips home.
Buy out Lunelle's basic stock at Ethereal Styles to trigger shop level-ups. Higher shop levels stock rarer and more varied clothing.
Check Ethereal Styles regularly for limited-time pieces that rotate out of stock.
Start breeding colored animals early if you want to craft your own dyed clothing. The Intermediate Rancher certification requires 3,500 Coins.
The physical wardrobe in your house works before unlocking the phone apps, but you have to go home each time you want to change.
Hats and hairstyles are independent slots. You can wear any hat with any hairstyle without conflicts.
