Coral Sea
The Coral Sea is the most beginner-friendly of the three offshore deep-sea fishing zones in Starsand Island, alongside Luminwave and Celestwave. Located southeast of the main island, it is the recommended starting point for players entering the deep-sea fishing system. The Coral Sea contains five fish species, including the Swordfish King Fish, which has the widest availability window of any legendary catch in the game.
How to Access
The Coral Sea is reached by boarding the Parrot Ship at Starsand Port. Before you can sail anywhere, you must complete the Starsand Port Construction quest, which requires donating 15 Stone and 15 Softwood to rebuild the dock. Once the port is operational, speak to Marston and select Coral Sea from the destination list. Each trip costs 30 coins. The boat stays anchored at the fishing spot so you can cast directly from the deck.
You can visit all three deep-sea zones in a single day if you start early enough. The Parrot Ship returns you to Starsand Port whenever you are ready to leave.
Location
The Coral Sea sits southeast of the main island. The waters here are shallower and warmer than the other two deep-sea zones, with visible coral formations beneath the surface. Like all deep-sea zones, there is no landmass to explore; all gameplay takes place from the Parrot Ship's deck.
Fish Species
The Coral Sea contains five fish species. Unlike Luminwave and Celestwave, the Coral Sea has no nighttime-exclusive fish. All species here can be caught during the day, making it the most accessible zone for casual fishing trips. However, the Bass has a unique dawn and dusk schedule.
Fish | Seasons | Weather | Time | Bait |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Bass | All Seasons | All Weather | 06:00 - 08:00, 18:00 - 20:00 | Meat Bait |
Blue Tang | Spring, Summer, Autumn | All Weather | 08:00 - 18:00 | Veggie Bait |
Humphead Wrasse | All Seasons | All Weather | 08:00 - 18:00 | Meat Bait |
Sardine | Spring, Summer, Autumn | All Weather | 08:00 - 18:00 | Veggie Bait |
Swordfish (King) | All Seasons | All Weather | 06:00 - 18:00 | Meat Bait |
The Blue Tang and Sardine are seasonal, unavailable during Winter. The Bass is the trickiest standard fish to schedule around because it only appears during the narrow dawn (06:00 to 08:00) and dusk (18:00 to 20:00) windows. Arrive early or stay late to catch it.
Bait Requirements
The Coral Sea requires two bait types. Meat Bait covers the Bass, Humphead Wrasse, and Swordfish, while Veggie Bait is needed for the Blue Tang and Sardine. Make sure to bring both types from the Chopper before departing. Running out of the correct bait means you cannot attract the fish you are targeting.
Swordfish King Fish
The Swordfish is the Coral Sea's King Fish and the most accessible legendary catch in the game. It has the widest availability window of any King Fish, biting from 06:00 all the way through 18:00 in every season and weather condition. This makes the Swordfish the recommended first King Fish target for players working through the Angler profession.
Tips for catching the Swordfish:
Use a Noble Rod at minimum. The fight is manageable with an upgraded rod; a Titanium Rod or higher makes it comfortable.
Bring plenty of Meat Bait. King Fish have low bite rates, so expect to chum many times before the Swordfish appears.
Watch for the oversized shadow in the water. King Fish shadows are noticeably larger than standard fish.
When the line turns red during the fight, stop reeling and let it recover. Forcing the reel on a red line will snap it.
The Swordfish's long daytime window (06:00 to 18:00) means you have 12 hours of availability. There is no rush; take your time and keep casting.
Zone Comparison
The three deep-sea zones form a difficulty progression. The Coral Sea is the entry point and should be the first zone you visit.
Zone | Direction | Difficulty | King Fish | Night Fish | Bait Types |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Coral Sea | Southeast | Beginner | Swordfish (King) | None | Meat + Veggie |
North | Intermediate | Megamouth Shark (King) | 3 species | Meat only | |
Southwest | Advanced | Long-barbelled Dragonfish (King) | 3 species | Meat + Veggie |
The Coral Sea is the only deep-sea zone with no nighttime-exclusive species. This makes it the simplest zone to clear: arrive in the morning and you can catch everything (including the King Fish) in a single daytime trip. The other zones require night visits for full completion.
Recommended Equipment
Equipment | Recommendation |
|---|---|
Fishing Rod | Noble Rod minimum. Titanium Rod or higher for comfortable catches and the Swordfish fight. |
Bait | Bring both Meat Bait (Bass, Humphead Wrasse, Swordfish) and Veggie Bait (Blue Tang, Sardine). |
Food | Stamina-restoring meals. Fishing buff dishes like Flow Fishing (line durability) help with the Swordfish. |
Storage | Realm Box or empty bag slots. Coral Sea fish are valuable, especially King Fish. |
Timing | Arrive by 06:00 to catch the Bass during the dawn window and maximize your time for the Swordfish. |
Tips
Complete the Starsand Port Construction quest as early as possible. The sooner you unlock deep-sea zones, the sooner you can start filling out your Aquarium and Islandpedia.
The Bass only appears during dawn (06:00 to 08:00) and dusk (18:00 to 20:00). If you arrive mid-morning and leave before evening, you will miss it entirely. Plan your trip start time around these windows.
The Swordfish is the easiest King Fish in the game. If you are working on Angler Trial Walkthroughs that require a King Fish catch, the Coral Sea Swordfish is the best place to start.
Blue Tang and Sardine are unavailable in Winter. Visit during Spring, Summer, or Autumn if you need those species for your collection.
Coral Sea fish sell for less than Luminwave or Celestwave catches, but the trip is cheaper in terms of bait and time. It remains a solid money-making option in the mid-game.
The 30-coin Parrot Ship fare is trivial. Do not hesitate to make multiple trips if you miss a species or run out of bait.
