What are Gmax crops
Gmax crops are giant mutations of regular crops. When a mutation triggers, a huge version of the plant grows across the tilled soil, replacing the individual plots in the 3×3 grid. You harvest them with an Axe (not by interacting normally), and they yield the crop itself, seeds, and a Crop Fragment. Gmax crops sell for more than the nine individual plants would have, making them worth targeting once your farm is set up for it.
Which crops can go Gmax
Only four crops can mutate into Gmax versions, one per season:

Pineapple Spring
Watermelon Summer
Pumpkin Autumn
Winter Melon Winter
Buy seeds from the Happiness Seed Shop once you reach Junior Farmer level with Graminova.
How to trigger a Gmax mutation
Till a 3×3 grid of soil on your farmland.
Plant 9 seeds of the same crop in the grid.
Water them daily and clear weeds immediately so all 9 plants grow at the same rate.
Wait for the growing time to finish. If a Gmax mutation triggers, a giant crop appears across the entire grid.
Place a Rabbit Hutch nearby to keep weeds under control automatically. The Gmax trigger is not guaranteed. It can take multiple attempts. During the Intermediate Farmer certification quest, the mutation seems to trigger on the first try.
Gmax Fertilizer III
At Intermediate Farmer tier, Graminova sells Gmax Fertilizer III (320 Coins for 5 bags). This fertilizer increases mutation probability by 15%, significantly improving your chances. However, it cannot stack with other fertilizer types you must choose between Gmax Fertilizer and Ripening or Yield Fertilizers. Apply it to all 9 plots in the grid for the best results.
Harvesting
The harvest prompt only appears if you stand near the top of the Gmax crop. Pull out your Axe and swing at it. It takes several hits, but you get a large bounty:
Multiple units of the crop
Seeds for replanting
A Season Crop Fragment
Important: When a Gmax crop grows, it destroys the tilled soil underneath. You will have to re-till those 9 plots afterward.
Season Crop Fragments
The Intermediate Farmer certification quest from Graminova requires one Season Crop Fragment. You need any one of these:
Pineapple Fragment from Spring Gmax Pineapple
Watermelon Fragment from Summer Gmax Watermelon
Pumpkin Fragment from Autumn Gmax Pumpkin
Winter Melon Fragment from Winter Gmax Winter Melon
Since you start the game in Summer, Watermelon Fragment is the most common first target. Buy 9 Watermelon Seeds, plant them in a 3×3 grid, and keep weeds clear. Each crop is season-exclusive, so if you miss Summer, try Pumpkin in Autumn.
Other fertilizer types
For reference, these fertilizers from the Happiness Seed Shop affect crop growth but are not compatible with Gmax Fertilizer:
Ripening Fertilizer I (Apprentice, 15 Coins for 5 bags). Accelerates growth by 8 hours.
Yield Fertilizer I (Apprentice, 120 Coins for 5 bags). Increases yield by 50% at maturity.
Ripening Fertilizer II (Junior, 60 Coins for 5 bags). Accelerates growth by 13 hours.
Yield Fertilizer II (Junior, 780 Coins for 5 bags). Increases yield by 150% at maturity.
Ripening Fertilizer III (Intermediate, 180 Coins for 5 bags). Accelerates growth by 25 hours.
Nutrient Soil IV (Senior, 250 Coins for 5 bags). Increases pollination probability for flowers by 15% (stackable).
Avoiding accidental Gmax
If you want to prevent Gmax from triggering (since it destroys tilled soil), keep your farm plots 2 tiles wide or narrower. A 3×3 block is the minimum for a mutation, so avoiding 3×3 grids of the same crop eliminates the risk.
Tips
Always use Gmax Fertilizer III when attempting mutations to save time and seeds.
Keep Rabbit Hutches near your Gmax plots. Weeds can break the mutation if even one plant falls behind.
Save Crop Fragments, you need one for the Intermediate Farmer quest, but they may have additional uses in future updates.
After harvesting, re-till the 9 plots before replanting.
