Celestwave
Celestwave is the most challenging of the three offshore deep-sea fishing zones in Starsand Island, alongside the Coral Sea and Luminwave. Located southwest of the main island, Celestwave contains the rarest and most valuable fish in the entire game, including the legendary Long-barbelled Dragonfish. Fish here fight harder than anywhere else and require top-tier fishing rods to catch reliably.
How to Access
Celestwave is reached by boarding the Parrot Ship at Starsand Port. You must first complete the Starsand Port Construction quest, which requires donating 15 Stone and 15 Softwood to rebuild the dock. Once the port is operational, speak to Marston and select Celestwave from the destination list. Each trip costs 30 coins. The Parrot Ship remains anchored at the fishing spot for the duration of your visit.
While the port gives access to all three deep-sea zones from the start, it is strongly recommended to progress through Coral Sea and Luminwave before attempting Celestwave. The fish here have the highest tension values in the game, and attempting them with insufficient gear will result in frequent line breaks and wasted bait.
Location
Celestwave sits southwest of the main island. The zone has a distinctly deeper, darker water color compared to the other two zones. Like all deep-sea zones, there is no landmass to explore; all fishing takes place from the deck of the Parrot Ship.
Fish Species
Celestwave contains five fish species. Two are daytime catches, two appear only at night, and the legendary Long-barbelled Dragonfish spans the late-night hours. Unlike Luminwave where all fish use Meat Bait, Celestwave has mixed bait requirements.
Fish | Seasons | Weather | Time | Bait |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Dolphinfish | All Seasons | All Weather | 08:00 - 18:00 | Meat Bait |
Flounder | Spring, Summer, Autumn | All Weather | 08:00 - 18:00 | Meat Bait |
Mandarinfish | All Seasons | All Weather | 20:00 - 24:00 | Veggie Bait |
Ribbon Eel | All Seasons | All Weather | 20:00 - 02:00 | Meat Bait |
Long-barbelled Dragonfish (King) | All Seasons | All Weather | 20:00 - 02:00 | Meat Bait |
The Flounder is the only seasonal species in Celestwave, unavailable during Winter. The Mandarinfish is notable for being the only Celestwave fish that requires Veggie Bait rather than Meat Bait. Make sure to bring both bait types if you want to catch everything in a single trip.
Long-Barbelled Dragonfish
The Long-barbelled Dragonfish is Celestwave's King Fish, the rarest and most difficult catch in the entire game. Like all King Fish, it has an extremely low bite rate and puts up a punishing fight. It bites between 20:00 and 02:00 in any season and any weather, using Meat Bait.
Tips for catching the Long-barbelled Dragonfish:
Use a Titanium Rod at minimum. An Astra Rod or Solar Rod is strongly recommended for a manageable fight.
Invest in Angler profession skills that reduce line tension before attempting this catch. The tension reduction upgrades make a noticeable difference.
Arrive at Celestwave before 20:00 to be ready when the window opens.
Bring a large supply of Meat Bait. The King Fish bite rate is very low, so you may chum many times before it appears.
Use the "Rare Bites" cooking buff if available. It increases the chance of rare fish appearing on your line.
Watch for the oversized shadow in the water. King Fish shadows are noticeably larger than regular fish shadows.
When the line turns red during the fight, stop reeling and let it recover. Forcing the reel on a red line will snap it instantly.
Night Fishing at Celestwave
Three of Celestwave's five species only appear after 20:00, including the Long-barbelled Dragonfish. Night trips are essential for completing your Aquarium collection and filling out the Islandpedia. Before departing, eat a high-stamina meal and apply any fishing buff food you have. You cannot sleep or rest on the Parrot Ship, so stamina management is critical during extended night sessions.
The cooking buffs Flow Fishing (line durability) and Never Skunked (instant bites) are especially valuable for Celestwave night trips, where every cast counts.
Zone Comparison
The three deep-sea zones form a clear difficulty progression. Celestwave is the endgame zone and should be attempted last.
Zone | Direction | Difficulty | King Fish | Bait Variety |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Southeast | Beginner | Swordfish (King) | Meat Bait only | |
North | Intermediate | Megamouth Shark (King) | Meat Bait only | |
Celestwave | Southwest | Advanced | Long-barbelled Dragonfish (King) | Meat + Veggie Bait |
Celestwave is the only deep-sea zone that requires two bait types. Both Coral Sea and Luminwave use Meat Bait exclusively, but Celestwave's Mandarinfish needs Veggie Bait. Pack both types before departing.
Difficulty and Rod Requirements
Celestwave fish have the highest tension values in the game. The rod you bring determines how comfortable (or frustrating) your fishing session will be.
Rod Tier | Celestwave Experience |
|---|---|
Noble Rod | Very difficult. Frequent line breaks, especially on Ribbon Eel and King Fish. Not recommended. |
Titanium Rod | Manageable. Most standard fish are catchable with skill, but the Dragonfish is still a tough fight. |
Astra Rod | Comfortable. Minimal tension on standard species. King Fish still requires attention. |
Solar Rod | Easy for standard fish. King Fish becomes a fair fight rather than a battle of attrition. |
Recommended Equipment
Equipment | Recommendation |
|---|---|
Fishing Rod | Titanium Rod minimum. Astra Rod or Solar Rod strongly recommended. |
Bait | Meat Bait (for Dolphinfish, Flounder, Ribbon Eel, Dragonfish) and Veggie Bait (for Mandarinfish). Bring plenty of both. |
Food | Best available stamina meals. Fishing buff dishes like Flow Fishing (line durability) and Never Skunked (instant bites) are ideal. |
Storage | Realm Box essential. Celestwave fish are the most valuable in the game; do not discard any catches. |
Time | Arrive before 20:00 to catch daytime fish first, then transition into night fishing for Ribbon Eel, Mandarinfish, and the Dragonfish. |
Tips
Celestwave fish sell for the highest prices in the game. A full inventory from one successful trip can fund days of other activities. Sell at the Merchant Ship for double value.
Do not attempt Celestwave with anything weaker than a Titanium Rod. The fish will snap Noble Rods regularly, wasting bait and time.
The Flounder is unavailable in Winter. Plan your Celestwave visits for Spring, Summer, or Autumn if you need the Flounder for your Islandpedia.
Invest in the Angler profession skills that reduce line tension before tackling Celestwave. These passive upgrades make a significant difference, especially for the Dragonfish fight.
Bring all the food and bait you can carry. The 30-coin Parrot Ship fare is trivial compared to the value of Celestwave catches, but running out of supplies mid-trip wastes the investment.
If you are working on the Angler Trial Walkthroughs, several advanced profession trials require Celestwave catches. Check your active trials before departing.
