Overview
Fish traps are a passive fishing method in Starsand Island. Instead of standing at the water's edge and reeling in fish one by one, you place a trap in the water, leave it, and come back later to collect the catch. This lets you earn fishing income while spending your time on farming, building, or anything else.
How to get fish traps
Fish trap blueprints are sold at the Aquablue Outpost (also called Dive & Reels), the fishing supply shop. You need to reach a certain Fishing profession tier before the blueprints become available. Craft the traps at your workbench.

How to use
Craft a fish trap at your workbench
Approach a body of water (lake, river, or ocean)
Place the trap in the water at a valid spot
Wait, traps accumulate fish over time
Return to the trap and interact with it to collect your catch
Fish traps work in any body of water, but the species caught depends on the location. Traps placed in the ocean catch different fish than traps in the lake.
Placement tips
Place traps near your daily route so you can check them without going out of your way.
Multiple traps can be active simultaneously. Set one at each fishing spot you regularly visit.
Traps near Hopeland (your farm) are the most convenient to check each morning.
A recent patch (0.2.1185) fixed fish trap placement issues, so make sure your game is updated.
Fish traps vs. active fishing
Traps: Passive, hands-off income. Lower yield per hour than skilled active fishing, but requires zero time investment once placed.
Active fishing: Higher yield, ability to target specific species with bait, and benefits from cooking buffs like Never Skunked. Requires your direct attention.
The best approach is to use both: set traps in the morning, fish actively when you want to target specific species, and collect trap catches at the end of the day.
