Luminwave
Luminwave is one of three offshore deep-sea fishing zones in Starsand Island, alongside the Coral Sea and Celestwave. Situated north of the main island, Luminwave is the mid-tier deep-sea zone, harder than Coral Sea but more forgiving than Celestwave. The area is home to five fish species, including the legendary Megamouth Shark, and is considered one of the best locations for high-value catches in the entire game.
How to Access
Luminwave is reached by boarding the Parrot Ship at Starsand Port. Before you can sail anywhere, you must complete the Starsand Port Construction quest, which requires donating 15 Stone and 15 Softwood to rebuild the dock. Once the port is operational, speak to Marston and select Luminwave from the destination list. Each trip costs 30 coins. The boat stays anchored at the fishing spot, so you cast your line directly from the deck.
You can visit all three deep-sea zones in a single day if you start early in the morning. The Parrot Ship returns you to Starsand Port whenever you are ready to leave.
Location
Luminwave sits directly north of the main island. Unlike the other two zones, its waters have a distinctive glow at night, which makes evening fishing trips visually striking. The zone has no landmass to explore; all gameplay takes place from the Parrot Ship's deck.
Fish Species
Luminwave contains five fish species. Two are available during the day, two appear only at night, and the legendary Megamouth Shark spans the late-night hours. All Luminwave fish require Meat Bait.
Fish | Seasons | Weather | Time | Bait |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Tuna | Spring, Summer, Autumn | Sunny, Snowy, Rainy | 08:00 - 18:00 | Meat Bait |
Mola Mola | All Seasons | All Weather | 08:00 - 18:00 | Meat Bait |
Anglerfish | All Seasons | All Weather | 20:00 - 24:00 | Meat Bait |
Viperfish | All Seasons | All Weather | 20:00 - 24:00 | Meat Bait |
Megamouth Shark (King) | All Seasons | All Weather | 20:00 - 02:00 | Meat Bait |
Tuna is the only seasonal species here, unavailable during Winter. The Mola Mola is one of the largest standard fish in the game and puts up a strong fight on weaker rods. Both the Anglerfish and Viperfish are nighttime exclusives, so plan your trips accordingly if you want to catch everything Luminwave has to offer.
Megamouth Shark
The Megamouth Shark is Luminwave's King Fish, the legendary catch for this zone. Like all King Fish, it is extremely rare and puts up a long, difficult fight. The Megamouth Shark bites between 20:00 and 02:00 in any season and any weather. It requires Meat Bait.
Tips for catching the Megamouth Shark:
Use a Noble Rod at minimum. A Titanium Rod or higher makes the fight much more manageable.
Arrive at Luminwave before 20:00 so you are ready to cast as soon as the window opens.
Bring plenty of Meat Bait. You may need to chum many times before the Megamouth Shark appears.
Watch for the extra-large shadow in the water. King Fish shadows are noticeably bigger than regular catches.
When the line turns red during the fight, release and let it recover. Forcing the reel while the line is red will snap it.
Night Fishing at Luminwave
Three of Luminwave's five species, including the Megamouth Shark, only appear after 20:00. This makes night trips essential for completing your Aquarium collection and filling out the Islandpedia. Make sure to eat a high-stamina meal before departure, since fishing drains stamina and you cannot sleep on the boat. Cooking buffs that improve line durability (like the Flow Fishing buff) are especially useful here.
Zone Comparison
The three deep-sea zones represent a clear difficulty progression. Each zone has its own King Fish.
Zone | Direction | Difficulty | King Fish | Day Fish | Night Fish |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Coral Sea | Southeast | Beginner | Swordfish (King) | 3 | 0 |
Luminwave | North | Intermediate | Megamouth Shark (King) | 2 | 3 |
Celestwave | Southwest | Advanced | Long-barbelled Dragonfish (King) | 1 | 2 |
Luminwave sits in the middle. If you can handle Coral Sea catches without breaking your line, you are ready for Luminwave. Progress through the zones in order to build experience before attempting Celestwave.
Recommended Equipment
Equipment | Recommendation |
|---|---|
Fishing Rod | Noble Rod minimum. Titanium Rod or higher is strongly recommended for comfortable catches, especially the Megamouth Shark. |
Bait | Meat Bait only. All five Luminwave species use Meat Bait. Craft it at the Chopper using Fish Fillet and Flour. |
Food | Bring meals with stamina restoration and fishing buffs. The Flow Fishing buff (line durability) is ideal. |
Storage | Bring a Realm Box or clear bag space. Luminwave fish are too valuable to discard. |
Time | Arrive before 20:00 to cover both day and night windows in one trip. |
Tips
Luminwave fish sell for high prices at the Merchant Ship. A successful trip here is one of the best money-making activities in the game.
Bring all the Meat Bait you can carry. Luminwave's five species all require it, and you will go through bait quickly when chasing King Fish.
Tuna is unavailable in Winter, but the other four species are year-round. Winter trips still yield Mola Mola, Anglerfish, Viperfish, and the Megamouth Shark.
If you are working on the Angler Trial Walkthroughs, several profession trial quests require deep-sea catches. Check your active trials before visiting Luminwave so you can complete multiple objectives in one trip.
The Parrot Ship ride costs 30 coins each way. Pack enough supplies for a long session to get the most value out of each trip.
