Overview
Dream Islands are special resource-gathering zones in Pokemon Pokopia accessed through Drifloon, the only Pokemon with the Dream Island specialty. Each island type corresponds to one of the game's main regions and offers distinct materials for crafting, building, and cooking. Dream Islands contain exclusive resources like Stardust (used to craft Star Pieces for multiplayer Pokemon sharing), abandoned structures with recipes, Pokeballs with habitat clues, Music CDs, and decorative Dolls. They serve as the primary way to stockpile rare materials that are limited or unavailable in the main story areas.
Unlocking Dream Islands
Dream Islands become available once you befriend Drifloon in the Withered Wasteland. Drifloon is located on the west side of the Withered Wasteland, at the beach near the bridge that leads to Palette Town. To attract Drifloon, you must build its habitat, "Riding Warm Updrafts," which requires three campfires placed side by side. Have Charmander nearby to light them automatically.
Once Drifloon has moved in, present a Pokedoll from your inventory. Select "I want to go to an island" in the dialogue options, and Drifloon will carry you to the Dream Island that corresponds to the doll you offered. Each doll type leads to a specific island.
Dolls and Island Types
There are seven dolls in the game, each corresponding to a specific Dream Island type. Five dolls lead to fixed island types matching the game's story regions, while the Ditto Doll and Substitute Doll both lead to a randomly selected island.
Doll | Island Type | Base Region | Key Materials |
|---|---|---|---|
Eevee Doll | Wasteland Dream Island | Withered Wasteland | Leppa Berry, Vine Rope, Glowing Mushrooms |
Pikachu Doll | Ocean Dream Island | Bleak Beach | Twine, Sea Glass Fragments, Seashells |
Clefairy Doll | Rock Peak Dream Island | Rocky Ridges (exterior) | Cave Mushrooms, Copper Ore, Limestone |
Arcanine Doll | Volcanic Dream Island | Rocky Ridges (interior) | Iron Ore, Gold Ore, Glowing Stone |
Dragonite Doll | Sky Dream Island | Sparkling Skylands | Wastepaper, Pokemetal Fragments, Crystal Fragments |
Ditto Doll | Random Dream Island | Any | Random materials from any island type |
Substitute Doll | Random Dream Island | Any | Random materials from any island type |
Finding Dolls
Dolls are found throughout the game world. Many are hidden in glowing spots on blocks; use Rock Smash to break these blocks and retrieve the doll inside. Some dolls are placed out in the open in specific locations. The Pikachu Doll, for example, can be found at the start of Bleak Beach inside a random hut. Dolls are not consumed when used; once collected, you can present the same doll to Drifloon repeatedly on different days.
Rules and Daily Limits
One island type per day: You can only visit one type of Dream Island per calendar day. The daily reset occurs at midnight local time.
Multiple visits allowed: You may revisit the same island as many times as you want on the same day, but materials you already gathered will not respawn until the following day.
No inventory access: Your home inventory and storage are not accessible on Dream Islands. Bring any power-up meals or tools you need beforehand.
Full inventory handling: If your inventory fills up, you can take reference photos of items. These photos allow you to duplicate those items later using the Pokemon Center's 3D Printer.
Stardust and Star Pieces
Stardust is the only material found exclusively on Dream Islands. It appears as sparkly pink mounds on beaches and inside caves. Stardust has a single purpose: crafting Star Pieces for the multiplayer Pokemon sharing system.
99 Stardust is required to craft one Star Piece. In multiplayer, when you encounter a Pokemon species that another player has but you do not, you can gift a Star Piece to that Pokemon. It will give you a special gift in return. Opening that gift at an empty habitat or home in your own world causes a Pokemon of the same species to appear and move in. Star Pieces are the core currency of cooperative Pokemon collection.
Legendary Beast Encounters
The three Legendary Beasts (Entei, Suicune, and Raikou) can be encountered as roaming legendaries on Dream Islands. They do not appear on every visit; instead, they spawn randomly on specific island types:
Legendary | Dream Island Doll(s) |
|---|---|
Entei | Arcanine Doll (Volcanic Dream Island), Ditto Doll |
Suicune | Eevee Doll (Wasteland Dream Island), Substitute Doll |
Raikou | Pikachu Doll (Ocean Dream Island) |
Because the beasts are roaming, you may need to visit the correct Dream Island multiple times before they appear. Bring a Pokemon with the Search specialty to help locate them more efficiently.
Exploration Tips
Check abandoned structures on each island for unique recipes and furniture items that are not available in the main regions.
Pokeballs found on Dream Islands contain habitat clues that hint at which Pokemon can be attracted in your main world.
Volcanic Dream Islands are the best source of Iron Ore and Gold Ore, both of which are heavily used in late-game crafting recipes.
Sky Dream Islands provide Crystal Fragments and Pokemetal Fragments, essential for high-tier furniture and building kits.
Visit Dream Islands daily to build up Stardust reserves. Crafting even a single Star Piece takes 99 Stardust, so consistent daily visits pay off over time.
When exploring caves on Dream Islands, break every glowing block. In addition to the island's listed materials, you can find Music CDs, decorative Dolls, and additional Stardust.
