Electricity and Power
The electricity and power system in Pokemon Pokopia allows players to generate, distribute, and use electrical power to light up settlements and run appliances. Electric-type Pokemon, windmills, waterwheels, and generators provide power, distributed via utility poles.
Overview
The electricity and power system is a key gameplay mechanic in Pokemon Pokopia, particularly in Bleak Beach. Since the game is set in a post-apocalyptic Kanto where human infrastructure has crumbled, the player must rebuild the electrical grid from scratch to light up settlements, power appliances, and restore functionality to the world. Power can be generated through both Pokemon abilities and player-built infrastructure, then distributed across the settlement using utility poles.
Power Sources
There are two main ways to generate electricity in Pokopia: using Electric-type Pokemon with the Generate specialty, or building power-generating structures.
Generate Specialty Pokemon
Pokemon with the Generate specialty can directly power objects and structures. When placed near machines, lights, or appliances, these Pokemon supply electricity to them. The following Pokemon have the Generate specialty:
Pokemon | Evolution Line |
|---|---|
Pichu | Base form |
Pawmi | Base form |
Pawmo | Evolved from Pawmi |
Pawmot | Evolved from Pawmo |
Elekid | Base form |
Electabuzz | Evolved from Elekid |
Electivire | Evolved from Electabuzz |
Note that Peakychu (the special Pikachu NPC) has the Illuminate specialty instead of Generate. Standard Pikachu and Raichu also do not have the Generate specialty.
Power-Generating Structures
Players can also build structures that generate electricity without requiring a Pokemon to be stationed nearby. These are crafted through the building and crafting systems:
Structure | Power Source | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Windmill | Wind energy | Must be placed in open areas; generates steady power |
Water Wheel | Flowing water | Must be placed near or in water; generates steady power |
Furnace | Fuel combustion | Also used for smelting ores and firing bricks |
Power Distribution
Once electricity is being generated, it must be distributed to the devices and buildings that need it. This is done through utility poles. Utility poles are craftable infrastructure items that connect power sources to powered objects across the settlement. Players must build a network of utility poles to carry electricity from generators (or Generate-specialty Pokemon) to the lights, machines, and appliances that need it.
Planning your utility pole layout is important. A well-designed power grid ensures that all parts of your settlement have access to electricity without wasting resources on unnecessary poles.
What Requires Power
Several types of objects and features in Pokopia require electricity to function:
Lights: Streetlights, interior lights, and decorative lighting all require power. This is especially important in Bleak Beach, where the entire area starts in darkness.
Machines and appliances: Certain crafting stations and automated devices need electricity to operate.
Infrastructure: Some advanced building features and transportation systems require a functioning power grid.
Bleak Beach: Restoring Power
The electricity system is most prominent in Bleak Beach. The area's main quest, "Brighten Things Up," revolves around restoring light and power to the darkened settlement. Players must:
Build power-generating structures (windmills and waterwheels)
Set up utility poles to distribute electricity
Befriend Generate-specialty Pokemon to supplement power generation
Work with Peakychu and her Illuminate specialty to light up the entire town
Completing the power restoration is required to raise the area's Environment Level and unlock new habitats, shop items, and story progression.
Tips
Build utility poles in a connected line from your power source to the objects that need electricity. Gaps in the line will break the power connection.
Windmills and Water Wheels provide steady, passive power generation without needing a Pokemon stationed nearby. Use them as your primary power backbone.
Generate-specialty Pokemon are great for powering isolated objects that are far from your main power grid.
Plan your settlement layout with power distribution in mind. Clustering powered objects near power sources reduces the number of utility poles needed.
In Bleak Beach, prioritize building the electrical infrastructure early, as many other activities in the area depend on having functional lighting.
