Overview
Cooking in Pokemon Pokopia lets you prepare food that restores PP and powers up your Ditto transformation moves. The cooking system revolves around four pieces of equipment, each dedicated to a specific food category. Cooking is unlocked during the Rocky Ridges storyline and becomes an essential part of progression, as powered-up moves are required to access new materials and areas.
Unlocking Cooking
Cooking becomes available after rescuing Chef Dente during the Rocky Ridges storyline. To reach this point:
Reach the Great Trainer Rank in your Pokedex to unlock the Rocky Ridges gate.
Enter Rocky Ridges through the green gate in the northwest of Withered Wasteland.
Follow the main questline until you encounter a mysterious Pokemon stuck in a barrel.
Free Chef Dente from the barrel to trigger the cooking tutorial.
During and after the tutorial, you learn meal preparation and gain access to cooking equipment. Chef Dente's additional requests unlock further cooking tools.
Equipment
There are four cooking tools, each producing a different food category:
Equipment | Food Type | How to Unlock | Fire Required |
|---|---|---|---|
Chopping Board | Salads | Available from the start of the cooking tutorial | No |
Bread Oven | Bread | Unlocked through Chef Dente's requests; requires a Burn-type Pokemon to light initially | Yes (built-in) |
Cooking Pot | Soups | Unlocked during the Rocky Ridges storyline | Yes (place over lit fire or Cooking Stove) |
Frying Pan | Hamburger Steaks | Gained during the Chef Dente questline | Yes (place over lit fire or Cooking Stove) |
The Cooking Pot and Frying Pan must be placed over a lit fire or a Cooking Stove to function. You need a Pokemon with the Burn specialty (such as Torkoal) to light fires initially.
Recipe Categories
Each piece of equipment produces recipes in its own category. Recipes consist of a base ingredient plus additional items. Some advanced recipes also require a Pokemon with a specific specialty to be present.
Salads (Chopping Board)
Salads use Leaves as their base ingredient and power up the Leafage move. After eating a salad, Leafage grows more tiles of tall grass per use and can also produce moss and duckweed on appropriate surfaces.
Recipe | Ingredients | Specialty Required | Flavor |
|---|---|---|---|
Simple Salad | Leaf x 2 | None | Neutral |
Leppa Salad | Leaf + Leppa Berry | None | Sweet |
Seaweed Salad | Leaf + Seaweed | None | Bitter |
Shredded Salad | Leaf x 2 | Chop (e.g., Scyther) | Sour |
Crushed-Berry Salad | Leaf + Chesto Berry | Crush (e.g., Graveler) | Dry |
Crouton Salad | Leaf + Bread | None | Spicy |
Bread (Bread Oven)
Bread uses Wheat as its base ingredient and powers up the Cut move. After eating bread, Cut gains a larger area of effect and a charge attack for cutting harder materials, including metal.
Recipe | Ingredients | Specialty Required | Flavor |
|---|---|---|---|
Simple Bread | Wheat x 3 | None | Neutral |
Leppa Bread | Wheat x 2 + Leppa Berry | None | Sour |
Carrot Bread | Wheat x 2 + Carrot | None | Spicy |
Recycled Bread | Wheat x 2 + Bread | Recycle | Bitter |
Fluffy Bread | Wheat x 2 + Pecha Berry | Water (e.g., Squirtle) | Sweet |
Bread Bowl | Wheat x 2 + Soup | Burn | Spicy |
Soups (Cooking Pot)
Soups use Fresh Water (Bottles of Water) as their base ingredient and power up the Water Gun move. After eating soup, Water Gun sprays a wider area of tiles per use.
Recipe | Ingredients | Specialty Required | Flavor |
|---|---|---|---|
Simple Soup | Bottle of Water x 3 | None | Neutral |
Mushroom Soup | Bottle of Water + Mushroom x 2 | None | Dry |
Seaweed Soup | Bottle of Water + Seaweed x 2 | None | Bitter |
Electrifying Soup | Bottle of Water x 3 | Generate (e.g., Pikachu, Magnemite) | Spicy |
Healthy Soup | Bottle of Water + Bean + Leaf | None | Spicy |
Flavorful Soup | Bottle of Water + Aspear Berry + Hamburger Steak | None | Sour |
Hamburger Steaks (Frying Pan)
Hamburger Steaks use Beans as their base ingredient and power up Rock Smash and Rollout. After eating a hamburger steak, Rock Smash can break harder surfaces including iron ore, gold ore, and Pokemetal fragments.
Recipe | Ingredients | Specialty Required | Flavor |
|---|---|---|---|
Simple Hamburger Steak | Bean x 4 | None | Neutral |
Tomato Hamburger Steak | Bean x 3 + Tomato | None | Sour |
Mushroom Hamburger Steak | Bean x 3 + Mushroom | None | Dry |
Potato Hamburger Steak | Bean x 3 + Potato | None | Sweet |
Bitter Hamburger Steak | Bean x 2 + Rawst Berry + Lum Berry | None | Bitter |
Vibrant Hamburger Steak | Bean x 2 + Salad + Potato | None | Spicy |
Move Power-Ups
Each food category powers up a specific Ditto move. Eating food also fully restores the PP of all your moves.
Food Type | Move Powered Up | Effect |
|---|---|---|
Salad | Leafage | Grows more tiles of tall grass per use; can produce moss and duckweed |
Bread | Cut | Larger area of effect; can cut harder materials like metal |
Soup | Water Gun | Sprays a wider area of tiles per use |
Hamburger Steak | Rock Smash / Rollout | Breaks harder ores (iron, gold, Pokemetal); faster block destruction |
Flavors and Comfort
Every recipe produces food with one of five flavors: Sweet, Sour, Bitter, Spicy, or Dry. Flavors are important because they affect Pokemon Comfort Levels. Each Pokemon has a favorite flavor listed in their Pokedex entry. Feeding a Pokemon food that matches its preferred flavor increases its comfort more than a mismatched flavor.
Flavor | Example Recipes |
|---|---|
Sweet | Leppa Salad, Fluffy Bread, Potato Hamburger Steak |
Sour | Shredded Salad, Leppa Bread, Tomato Hamburger Steak, Flavorful Soup |
Bitter | Seaweed Salad, Recycled Bread, Seaweed Soup, Bitter Hamburger Steak |
Spicy | Crouton Salad, Carrot Bread, Bread Bowl, Electrifying Soup, Healthy Soup, Vibrant Hamburger Steak |
Dry | Crushed-Berry Salad, Mushroom Soup, Mushroom Hamburger Steak |
Specialty Requirements
Six recipes require a Pokemon with a specific specialty to be present during cooking:
Specialty | Recipe | Pokemon Examples |
|---|---|---|
Chop | Shredded Salad | |
Crush | Crushed-Berry Salad | |
Water | Fluffy Bread | |
Recycle | Recycled Bread | Various Recycle-specialty Pokemon |
Generate | Electrifying Soup | |
Burn | Bread Bowl | Torkoal, Charmander, and other Burn-specialty Pokemon |
Tips
Always cook before going on a gathering run. Powered-up moves make material collection significantly faster.
Start growing Beans as soon as you unlock Rototiller. Hamburger Steaks are critical for accessing iron and gold ore with Rock Smash.
The Bread Bowl recipe requires both the Burn specialty and a pre-cooked Soup. Make Soup first, then combine it with Wheat at the Bread Oven with a Burn-specialty Pokemon present.
Check each Pokemon's favorite flavor in the Pokedex before cooking food for them. Matching flavors gives the best Comfort Level boost.
The Chopping Board is the only cooking tool that does not require fire. You can make salads anywhere without needing a flame or Cooking Stove.
Advanced recipes with specialty requirements produce stronger move buffs than basic versions. Prioritize befriending Chop, Crush, Generate, and Burn-specialty Pokemon to unlock the full recipe list.
