Overview
Stardust is a collectible material found exclusively on Dream Islands in Pokemon Pokopia. It can be compressed into Star Pieces at a workbench, which serve two important purposes: gifting to Pokemon during multiplayer Link Play sessions to expand your Pokedex, and converting into Rare Pokemetal via the Rarify specialty. Stardust cannot be found anywhere in the main game world; Dream Islands are the sole source.
Finding Stardust
Stardust appears as sparkly pale-pink mounds on the ground across all Dream Island types. It spawns in several locations on each island:
Beaches and coasts: The most common spawn locations. Look along sandy shorelines.
Caves: Check cave interiors, especially near walls and corners.
Sandy areas: Any sandy terrain on the island can have Stardust spawns.
Rocky outcrops: Occasionally found near rock formations.
Every Dream Island will have a large amount of Stardust scattered across it. Collecting all Stardust on a single island and visiting for two consecutive days is typically enough to accumulate 99 Stardust for one Star Piece. The Ditto Doll reportedly generates islands with a higher Stardust spawn rate, making it the preferred Doll for Stardust farming.
Crafting Star Pieces
Star Pieces are crafted at any workbench using the following recipe:
Item | Materials | Recipe Tab |
|---|---|---|
Star Piece | 99 Stardust | Other |
The Star Piece recipe unlocks automatically the first time the player picks up Stardust. No additional quest or progression is needed to learn it.
Uses for Star Pieces
Link Play Gifting (Pokedex Expansion)
When visiting a friend's island via multiplayer Link Play, the player may encounter Pokemon that exist on the friend's island but are not yet in the player's own Pokedex. By gifting a Star Piece to that Pokemon:
The Pokemon accepts the Star Piece and gives the player a Souvenir gift item in return.
The player brings the Souvenir back to their own island.
Using the Souvenir causes a Pokemon of that species to appear on the player's island as a befriended resident.
This is the primary method for obtaining Pokemon that may be difficult to attract through normal habitat building, especially species exclusive to specific areas or conditions on other players' islands.
Rare Pokemetal Conversion
Pokemon with the Rarify specialty (Porygon2) can convert a single Star Piece into one Rare Pokemetal. Rare Pokemetal is required for crafting two key items:
Item | Rare Pokemetal Required | Other Materials | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
Tidal Bell | 5 | 5 Silver Feathers | Summons Lugia |
Clear Bell | 5 | 5 Rainbow Feathers | Summons Ho-Oh |
Since each Star Piece yields only one Rare Pokemetal and 10 total are needed for both bells, players need at least 10 Star Pieces (990 Stardust) from this method alone. Rare Pokemetal can also drop randomly from Pokemetal Fragment blocks and is found behind Legendary Beasts on Dream Islands (3 per encounter), reducing the Star Piece requirement.
Farming Strategy
An efficient Stardust farming routine:
Use a Ditto Doll with Drifloon daily for reportedly higher Stardust rates.
Thoroughly explore the island's beaches, caves, and sandy areas.
Pick up every pink mound found on the ground.
Craft Star Pieces at a workbench whenever you accumulate 99 Stardust.
Combine Stardust runs with other Dream Island activities: material farming, Legendary hunting, and Stamp Rally collection.
Tips
Visit Dream Islands every day. Stardust is the only Dream Island exclusive material, so daily visits are the only way to accumulate it.
Two Dream Island visits typically yield enough Stardust for one Star Piece (99 required).
Prioritize Star Piece gifting in Link Play to fill Pokedex gaps. Some Pokemon are easier to obtain this way than through habitat building.
If you have Porygon2, convert Star Pieces to Rare Pokemetal early. Accumulating 10 Rare Pokemetal for both bells takes time.
Offer Dry-flavor food to Mosslax to boost Silver and Rainbow Feather spawns, which pair with Rare Pokemetal for bell crafting.
