Overview
inZOI has over 27 skills spread across three age groups: toddler, child, and teenager through senior. Each skill progresses through levels 1 to 10 by performing related activities. Leveling unlocks new interactions, enables career promotions, and in several cases produces items that sell for Meow. The v0.5.0 update added Baking, Drink Mixing, and Crime as new skills. The Island Getaway DLC added Collecting, Fishing, Handiwork, and Swimming.
Skills do not currently decay over time. A Zoi who stops practicing retains their level. Some child skills transition into related adult skills when the Zoi ages up.
Toddler skills
Toddlers have four developmental skills. These build the foundation for later child and adult skills.
Cognitive Development
Involves exploring and understanding objects in the environment. Improves through touching objects and reacting to toys or music.
Emotional Development
Involves forming bonds with others. Improves through greeting people and building attachment with family members.
Language Development
Involves expressing thoughts and communicating. Improves through speaking and using gestures to share opinions.
Physical Development
Involves controlling the body and maintaining balance. Improves through walking, playing, and physical activity.
Child skills
Children have six skills. When a child ages up to a teen, their child skill levels influence starting levels in related adult skills.
Aquatic Adaptability
The ability to adapt to underwater environments and move freely in water. Needed for swimming and diving. Improves through water activities.
Creativity
Built by playing instruments, gaming, doodling, and painting. The child equivalent of Art, Instrument, and Programming. Activities that spark imagination all contribute.
Curious Mind
The ability to observe the world and figure things out independently. Grows through fishing and mining activities.
Motor Development
Improved through physical activities: using a treadmill, doing yoga, playing with a ball. The child version of the Fitness skill.
Responsibility
Developed by cleaning up around the house and journaling. Teaches the child Zoi to plan and carry out tasks independently. Maps loosely to the Housework skill in adulthood.
Social
Built through conversations and interactions with friends and family. The child equivalent of Rhetoric and Charm combined.
Teenager through senior skills
The main skill set available from the teen life stage onward.
Art
Increased by painting on an easel, creating murals, and appreciating art at galleries or around the city. Higher Art levels unlock new painting styles and improve the quality and sale value of finished paintings. Completed artwork can be sold through the Pocket Market on the smartphone for Meow. Art is one of the skills that directly produces sellable physical items.
Baking
Added in v0.5.0. A separate skill from Cooking, focused on oven-based desserts and baked goods. Used to stock items in a bakery business through the "Fill Order" > "Bake" function on the fridge. Higher Baking levels unlock more expensive recipes, and group-sized baked goods sell for significantly more than individual servings.
Charm
Built through love-themed conversations, flirting, and reading speech-related books. Charm directly affects romantic interactions, making dates more successful and romantic conversations more effective. A high Charm level makes it easier to build relationships with romantic interests.
Coffee Craft
Developed by brewing coffee using a Coffee Grinder and Espresso Machine. Available from Teen through Elder. Higher levels unlock more complex drinks and improve quality. At Level 0, basic espresso and americano are available. By Level 10, specialty drinks like Feline Grace and Non-Alcoholic Cafe Royal unlock. Drinks range from 5 Meow (basic) to 15 Meow (Level 10 specialties). Coffee expires if left out, similar to food. This skill is directly used in cafe businesses.
Collecting
A gathering skill for mining and resource collection. Higher Collecting levels improve tool efficiency and yield better results. Mined items are added to the Family Collection Log, and completing the log earns additional rewards. Pickaxes (stone, steel, and copper) can be purchased from the Farm Store in Cahaya.
Cooking
Increased by experimenting with recipes in the kitchen. As the Cooking skill levels up, more complex recipes unlock, food quality improves, and the Zoi becomes less likely to start a fire. Level 0 covers basic meals like pancakes and salad. Level 3 unlocks group dishes (pizza, cake). Level 5 unlocks steak and fried chicken. Higher-quality meals satisfy the hunger need more effectively.
Crime
Added in v0.5.0. Levels through committing criminal acts. The Crime Skill currently progresses from Level 0 to Level 5, unlocking increasingly sophisticated thief and scammer interactions. See the crime article for the full breakdown of interactions at each level.
Critical Thinking
A broad intellectual skill built through writing, studying for certifications, solving puzzles, and reading logic books. Critical Thinking supports several career paths including journalism and law. Writing manuscripts is one of the leveling methods, and completed manuscripts can be sold as a freelance income source. Also affects scam success rates in the crime system.
Drink Mixing
Added in v0.5.0. Involves using Drink Dispensers to create mixed beverages, from fruit juices to cocktails. Used in club and lounge businesses. The types of drinks a Zoi can mix depend on their age and the objects available. The Drink Dispenser was refined in the v0.5.4 hotfix, which moved mixed drink preparation from standard bar tables to dedicated Drink Dispenser units.
Fishing
A skill for catching fish at designated spots in Dowon, Bliss Bay, and Cahaya. Higher Fishing levels improve catch success rates. Fish fillets are used as ingredients in cooking recipes like Flatfish Sushi and Steamed Fish.
Fitness
Built by using treadmills, weight machines, yoga mats, and other exercise equipment. The Fitness skill visibly affects the Zoi's body shape, making them more toned as it increases. Reading fitness books also contributes. Gyms are located at Muscle Beach in Bliss Bay and Harang River Park in Dowon. Equipment can also be purchased through Build Mode for home use. Also affects thief success rates in the crime system.
Gardening
Improved by watering, fertilizing, and harvesting crops. Reading gardening books also helps. Higher levels unlock new plant varieties and improve harvest quality. Each good-quality harvest earns 500 Meow. Bonsai created through gardening can be sold via the Pocket Market.
Handiwork
Involves crafting tools and jewelry at crafting tables. Items made through Handiwork can be used or sold. Raw gems from mining (via the Collecting skill) can be refined into polished jewels and used in crafting. Also affects thief success rates in the crime system.
Housework
Developed through cleaning, repairing broken objects, refurbishing old furniture, and crafting furniture from scratch. A high Housework level makes cleanliness management easier and unlocks the ability to craft furniture items that can be placed through Build Mode.
Instrument
Built by playing piano, guitar, or drums, and by composing music on a computer. See the instruments article for details on each instrument type. Higher levels unlock new songs and improve performance quality. Zois with a high Instrument skill can busk on the street for tips.
Media Production
Leveled by editing videos and taking photographs. This skill ties into the Photo Mode system and video editing tools on the computer. Higher levels produce better-quality media content that can be sold.
Performance
Built through singing, stand-up comedy, and humorous conversations with other Zois. Performance overlaps with the Instrument skill for busking purposes. A Zoi with high Performance can earn tips on the street and is more entertaining at social events.
Programming
Developed by coding games and applications on a computer or laptop. Digital creations can be sold through the computer for Meow. The skill supports the Developer career at DW Soft (Dowon) and Blue Moon Soft (Bliss Bay). Also affects ATM hacking success rates in the crime system.
Rhetoric
Improved through greeting Zois, conversations, giving advice, and debates. Rhetoric affects the success rate of social interactions and is useful for journalism careers. A high Rhetoric level makes it easier to influence other Zois' opinions and emotions. Also affects scam success rates in the crime system.
Swimming
Higher Swimming skill levels allow the Zoi to stay in the water longer and better avoid ocean hazards. Improved through regular practice or by attending lessons at the Academy. See the swimming article for full details on swimming, snorkeling, and underwater exploration.
How skills develop
All skills progress through levels 1 to 10. The primary method is always doing the relevant activity: painting for Art, cooking for Cooking, exercising for Fitness. Books provide a secondary leveling path for most skills. Reading a skill-relevant book at a library, bookshelf, or on a tablet gives skill experience at a slower rate.
Leveling is not linear. The first few levels come quickly, but reaching level 8, 9, or 10 requires sustained effort over many in-game days.
Factors that affect learning speed
Mood - Positive emotions like Concentrated, Focused, Amused, and Curious accelerate learning. Negative moods like Bored, Uncomfortable, and Sad slow it down.
Preferences - Zois learn faster when practicing skills they enjoy. Check the Zoi's hobbies and preferences panel.
Traits and Desired Life - Certain traits and Desired Lives provide natural aptitude for specific skills.
Equipment quality - Better tools and facilities improve learning efficiency.
What leveling unlocks
New interactions - higher skill levels unlock conversation topics, romantic moves, creative actions, and social behaviors that were previously unavailable.
Career promotions - many career promotion requirements include reaching a certain level in a related skill.
Better quality output - paintings, meals, coffee drinks, harvests, and digital products all improve in quality and sale value as the relevant skill increases.
New recipes and items - Cooking, Coffee Craft, Baking, and Gardening unlock new recipes, ingredients, and varieties at higher levels.
Business revenue - higher skill levels in Cooking, Baking, Coffee Craft, and Drink Mixing produce more expensive items for businesses, directly increasing profit margins.
