Overview
University is an optional education system in inZOI available to Young Adult Zois. Unlike elementary and high school (which are mandatory for younger Zois), university enrollment is entirely the player's choice. There are 3 degree programs across 2 campus locations. University takes approximately 7 to 10 in-game days to complete and provides a diploma on the Zoi's profile upon graduation. Enrollment is instant with no admission requirements or tuition fees.
University functions as a rabbit hole: your Zoi physically travels to campus and disappears inside the building for the duration of each class session. During those hours you have limited control over the attending Zoi, though you can select from a short menu of in-class activities. The rest of the household remains fully playable while one member is in class.
The main practical benefit of university is free skill development. Each degree program trains specific skills that would otherwise take longer to level through normal gameplay. The Multimedia Arts degree is especially lucrative because graduates can reach high levels of Media Production, unlocking profitable video creation that earns up to 2,000 Mew per video.
Campuses
Campus | City | Location Details |
|---|---|---|
Main campus in the northeast of Dowon, near AZ Convenience Store. Also referred to as "University of Youngsung" in career listings. Handles all education levels from elementary through university. | ||
Alternative campus in the southwest of Bliss Bay, south of Golden Apple Burger and east of 3140 Greenway Street. Also known as "Bliss Bay University" in some contexts. |
Both campuses offer all three degree programs with identical schedules and curricula. Choose based on which city your Zoi lives in for a shorter commute. The default commute method is by bus; Zois with personal vehicles can drive instead, which saves travel time.
The Cahaya island (added in the Island Getaway DLC) has Cahaya Harmony School, but this is a Swimming Learning Center rather than a traditional university campus. It teaches the Swimming skill to Zois aged teen and older and does not offer degree programs.
How to Enroll
Ensure your Zoi is in the Young Adult life stage.
Be on a Household Lot (not a community lot).
Open the smartphone by pressing P or tapping the purple phone icon.
Navigate to the School App and select the University tab on the far right.
Select a campus and degree program.
Click Apply. Enrollment is instant. There is no entrance exam, GPA requirement, or tuition fee.
Once enrolled, your Zoi's schedule is automatically updated with class days. The Zoi will travel to the selected campus on class days without any manual input. You can verify enrollment details by opening the School App and checking My Admission.
Enrollment Restrictions
Restriction | Details |
|---|---|
No simultaneous employment | Zois cannot hold a job while enrolled. If your Zoi has a career, they must quit before enrolling. |
Auto-drop on job application | Applying for any job (even part-time) while enrolled will automatically drop the Zoi from university without warning. All academic progress is lost. |
Young Adult only | Only Zois in the Young Adult life stage can enroll. Children and teens attend elementary and high school automatically, while adults and older Zois cannot attend university. |
No cross-stage enrollment | If a Zoi ages up to Adult while enrolled, they automatically graduate (see the Graduation section below). |
Degree Programs
Three degree programs are currently available in Early Access. Each program develops specific skills through coursework and homework assignments. During class, players can click the Zoi's portrait in the sidebar and use the graduation cap icon to select activities. Hovering over each activity shows which skills are being developed.
Degree | Skills Developed | Description |
|---|---|---|
Business Administration | Develops social and persuasion skills useful for management and business-oriented careers. Activities focus on communication, leadership, and interpersonal dynamics. Rhetoric can also be trained outside university through mirror practice and giving life advice. | |
Computer Science | Develops analytical and technical skills for technology and development careers. Homework often requires using a computer for research or coding tasks. The book "Problem Solving Through Computational Thinking" is frequently assigned reading. | |
Multimedia Arts | Develops creative skills. By graduation, Zois typically reach high Media Production levels, enabling profitable video creation earning up to 2,000 Mew per video. This is widely considered the most financially rewarding degree. |
Each activity during class develops skills tied to the chosen major. The skill gains from university attendance stack with any skill levels the Zoi already has, so choosing a degree aligned with your Zoi's existing strengths allows them to reach higher levels faster.
Class Schedule and Daily Routine
Classes run 3 days per week, from approximately 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (some sources report 10:00 AM start times; the exact schedule may vary slightly). A pop-up notification appears on screen when it is time for class. The Zoi automatically travels to campus by bus or personal vehicle.
On the 4 non-class days per week (plus evenings after class), your Zoi is completely free to pursue other activities. This time can be used to go on dates, plan social events, practice skills at home, visit community lots, or work on homework assignments. Managing this free time effectively is key to a successful university experience.
In-Class Activities
University is a rabbit hole, meaning you cannot directly control your Zoi's movements on campus. However, you do have some influence over what they focus on during class hours. By clicking the attending Zoi's portrait in the left sidebar, you can choose from a menu of activities:
Activity | Description |
|---|---|
Study Hard | Focuses on academic performance. This maximizes skill gains related to the chosen major and contributes the most toward raising the academic level bar. |
Take Notes | A balanced activity that provides moderate skill development. |
Socialize | Helps satisfy the Zoi's Social need at the expense of slower academic progress. |
Random events may also trigger during class time, presenting choices that can affect the Zoi's mood and academic standing. Players with multiple Zois in the same household retain full control over the non-attending members during university hours.
Homework
Homework is the primary factor in academic success and the most demanding part of university life. It determines how quickly the academic level bar fills and whether a Zoi stays on track for graduation.
How Homework Works
At the end of each university day, your Zoi receives 2 homework tasks with tight deadlines (only a few in-game hours, sometimes as little as 1 hour after class ends at 5 PM). Tasks cannot be completed during class since the Zoi is inside the rabbit hole. Completing homework on time improves academic performance. Missing deadlines or skipping classes results in performance penalties that can delay graduation.
Homework Types
Type | How to Complete | Requirements |
|---|---|---|
Computer tasks | Click a computer and select the "Homework" tab. Choose the correct option matching the assignment instructions (research tasks, coding tasks, etc.). | A computer in the household. |
Book tasks | Select the correct book title from a bookshelf and study it completely. Simply "finishing" the book is not enough; the Zoi must continue reading even after the reading circle fills. | A bookshelf with the required book. Some books are only available at the public library, not in home bookshelves. |
Players must select the correct book or homework option. For example, a Computer Science assignment might require the book "Problem Solving Through Computational Thinking," which may need to be found at the city library or purchased as a "Stack of Books" furniture item for roughly 14 Mew. Pay close attention to the assignment instructions: some books have similar titles, and picking the wrong one will not count toward homework completion.
Homework Tips
Complete homework immediately when assigned. Deadlines are extremely tight, often leaving only 1 to 2 hours after class ends.
Make sure your household has both a computer and a bookshelf before enrolling. These two furniture items cover the vast majority of homework types.
If a required book is not on your home bookshelf, check the city library. You can complete all book assignments without owning every title at home.
For book tasks, do not stop reading when the progress circle fills. Continue until the homework notification clears. Stopping too early is a common mistake.
Before class starts, queue up a "read book" or "use computer" action for the Zoi so they can begin homework immediately upon returning home.
Tracking Academic Progress
Monitor university progress through the School tab on the smartphone:
Field | Description |
|---|---|
University Location | Which campus your Zoi attends. |
Schedule | Upcoming class days and times. |
Academic Level | A progress bar showing current standing. Increases when homework is completed on time. Decreases when homework is missed or classes are skipped. Reaching maximum takes approximately one week with consistent attendance. |
Attendance | Number of classes attended versus missed. |
Absences | Number of classes skipped. Exceeding 3 absences results in expulsion. |
There is no formal GPA system, letter grades, or academic honors. The Academic Level bar is the sole measure of progress. As long as the Zoi attends classes on time and finishes homework, the bar typically reaches maximum within about one week of consistent play.
Graduation
Graduation occurs when
The Zoi has attended at least 6 class sessions (approximately 7 to 10 in-game days depending on schedule), or
The Zoi ages up from Young Adult to Adult. This triggers automatic graduation regardless of attendance count.
Upon graduation, the Zoi's profile is updated to show a university diploma with their degree. Graduation is confirmed via a text message on the smartphone. There is currently no visual graduation ceremony, cap-and-gown scene, or celebratory event.
The automatic graduation on aging up means you can enroll late in the Young Adult stage and still graduate, since the transition to Adult will force completion. This is useful for Zois who want to spend most of their Young Adult years working and only enroll near the end.
Known Bug: Aging Disabled
If the aging system is turned off in settings, Zois cannot graduate even after 10 or more class attendances. This happens because graduation is primarily tied to the aging mechanic. The workaround is to temporarily enable aging to trigger graduation, then disable it again afterward. This bug has been reported on the official inZOI forums and Steam discussions.
Withdrawal and Switching Majors
Dropping Out
Open the Career App on the smartphone.
Go to My Information.
Click the Drop Out button.
A warning screen will appear, giving you a chance to reconsider the decision.
Dropping out resets the Zoi's academic level entirely. All progress toward graduation is lost. If you re-enroll later, you start from scratch with zero attendance and a reset progress bar.
Switching Majors
There is no direct "switch major" option. To change degree programs, you must first drop out of the current program, then re-enroll in the new one. This means all academic progress is lost when switching. Because each degree only takes 7 to 10 days, it may be worth completing your current degree before starting a new one rather than dropping out partway through.
Pursuing Multiple Degrees
After graduating, a Zoi can re-enroll in a different degree program to pursue a second (or third) degree. Each enrollment starts fresh with no carryover of academic progress. Since all three programs only take about 7 to 10 in-game days each, a dedicated Zoi could potentially complete all three degrees during the Young Adult life stage, though this requires careful time management.
Completing multiple degrees stacks skill development benefits. For example, a Zoi who completes both Computer Science and Business Administration would gain levels in Programming, Critical Thinking, Rhetoric, and Charm. The diplomas all appear on the Zoi's profile.
Career Impact
In the current Early Access build, degrees provide no direct career benefits:
No career paths require a university degree.
Degrees do not unlock specific jobs or promotions.
Even the University Professor career (Assistant Professor at 342 Mew/day, Full Professor at 930 Mew/day, Distinguished Professor at 1,920 Mew/day) does not require any degree.
The diploma is a profile achievement with no mechanical benefit to career advancement.
Practical Skill Value
While degrees do not directly affect careers, the skills gained during university can indirectly help with work and earning money:
Degree | Skills Gained | Practical Value |
|---|---|---|
Business Administration | Rhetoric, Charm | Rhetoric improves social interactions and persuasion. Charm helps build relationships faster. Both are useful for any career that involves interacting with other Zois. |
Computer Science | Programming, Critical Thinking | Programming enables creating and selling software for income. Critical Thinking unlocks new book genres for writing and selling. Both can generate passive income without formal employment. |
Multimedia Arts | Art, Media Production | Media Production is the most profitable skill. High-level graduates can create and sell videos for up to 2,000 Mew each, making this the best degree for money-making. Art also enables selling paintings. |
The 2026 roadmap mentions improved career features including performance evaluation and interviews, which may eventually tie into degree relevance, but nothing has been confirmed.
Managing Needs During University
During class, the Zoi's needs (hunger, energy, social, fun) continue to decay normally. This is a common source of frustration for new players, since the Zoi cannot eat, sleep, or address low needs while inside the rabbit hole. Proper preparation before each class day is essential.
Strategy | Details |
|---|---|
Feed and rest before class | Make sure hunger and energy bars are at healthy levels before the Zoi leaves for campus. A hungry Zoi loses Energy faster, and a Zoi with low Social may find less Fun in activities. |
Use the Meow Store | You can slow need decay by spending Meow Coins at the Meow Store. Hunger decay reduction costs 100 Meow Coins and sleep decay reduction costs 300 Meow Coins. These buffs persist through class sessions and can make university much more manageable. |
Choose Socialize in class | If Social is running low, selecting the Socialize activity during class helps offset Social need decay, though it slows academic progress. |
Plan meals after class | Have a meal ready or queue cooking actions so the Zoi can eat immediately after returning from campus. The window between class ending and homework deadlines is very tight. |
Financial Planning
Since Zois cannot hold any job while enrolled, the 7 to 10 day commitment means lost income during the entire university period. Plan accordingly:
Strategy | Details |
|---|---|
Save before enrolling | Build up a financial cushion before starting university. Bills and living expenses continue during enrollment. |
Use another household member | If your household has multiple Zois, the others can continue working to cover expenses while one member attends classes. |
Earn informal income | Selling crafted items, paintings, books, or programs does not count as "jobs" and will not trigger the auto-drop from university. These are safe ways to earn Mew while enrolled. |
Choose Multimedia Arts for fastest ROI | If earning money quickly after graduation is your priority, the Multimedia Arts degree is the best choice. The Media Production skill gained through this degree allows creating videos worth up to 2,000 Mew each. |
Tips and Strategies
Prepare your household first. Ensure you have a computer and bookshelf before enrolling. Homework requires both. Some book assignments need specific titles only found at the city library.
Complete homework immediately. Deadlines are extremely tight, sometimes leaving only 1 hour after class ends at 5 PM. Do not do anything else until homework is done.
Feed and rest your Zoi before class. Needs decay during the rabbit hole and cannot be addressed until class ends.
Align your degree with existing skills. Choose a degree that complements your Zoi's current skill levels for faster leveling. A Zoi who already has some Programming skill will progress through Computer Science faster.
Multimedia Arts is the best for money. The Media Production income from this degree easily outpaces the other two in terms of post-graduation earning potential.
Never exceed 3 absences. Missing more than 3 class sessions results in expulsion with all progress lost.
Do not apply for any jobs while enrolled. Even opening a job application will automatically drop the Zoi from university without warning.
Selling items is safe. Selling crafted items, books, paintings, and programs does not count as employment and will not trigger auto-drop.
Use aging-up to your advantage. The automatic graduation on aging up means you can enroll late in the Young Adult stage and still graduate. This is useful for Zois who spend most of their Young Adult years working.
Workaround for the aging-disabled bug. If aging is turned off and your Zoi cannot graduate despite attending many classes, temporarily enable aging to trigger graduation, then disable it again.
Consider completing all three degrees. Each degree only takes about a week. If time in the Young Adult stage allows, the combined skill benefits from all three programs provide a well-rounded Zoi.
Check My Admission regularly. The School App's My Admission section shows your schedule, attendance count, and academic level bar. Use it to track progress and ensure you are not falling behind.
