Ambitions

Overview

Ambitions are lifelong goals that guide a Zoi's personal development in inZOI. Each ambition represents a dream or aspiration that the Zoi works toward over the course of their life, from accumulating wealth to mastering a creative discipline to becoming a notorious criminal. The system is comparable to aspirations in other life simulation games, but inZOI's implementation ties ambitions directly into the mentality system, traits, and urges, making them a core driver of daily behavior rather than a detached checklist.

At launch, inZOI shipped with 10 ambition categories containing 22 individual ambitions. The v0.5.0 update (December 2025) added three new categories -- Lifehacker, Collecting and Crafting, and Business Flourishing -- bringing the total to 13 categories with over 27 individual ambitions. Each ambition has three progression levels with escalating requirements. Completing an ambition's goals earns Meow currency at each stage, and finishing all three levels unlocks unique interactions exclusive to that ambition.

Availability and Assignment

Ambitions become available when a Zoi reaches the Young Adult life stage. Younger Zois (children, teenagers) cannot select ambitions, though their actions and skill development during childhood can lay groundwork for ambitions they will pursue later.

As of the v0.4.0 update, ambitions can be selected during Zoi creation in the Character Studio, rather than only becoming available after gameplay begins. NPC Zois are assigned ambitions that align with their traits automatically.

Changing Ambitions

Ambitions can be changed at any time without penalty. To switch, open the Zoi Card menu (press O or select the bottom-right tab), click the pencil icon in the Ambitions section, and choose a new ambition from the full list. Progress on previous ambitions is saved, so returning to a previously started ambition picks up where you left off. This flexibility prevents players from being locked into an early choice that no longer fits their playstyle.

Original Ambition Categories (Launch)

The following ten categories were available from the Early Access launch on March 28, 2025. Most categories contain two sub-ambitions, while Creative Expression offers three paths.

Financial Success

Focused on accumulating monetary wealth and property value.

• Wealth: Accumulate savings (up to 200,000 Meow at the highest level), purchase expensive furniture worth over 800 Meow each, deposit money at the bank regularly, and reside at a property priced over 35,000 Meow. Reward: Enhanced financial interactions and the ability to gift money to other Zois.

• Luxury Mansion: Purchase premium furniture, decorate extensively, plant landscape trees, and raise total property value. Reward: "Show Off Your House" conversation option and prestige bonuses.

Career Success

Encourages professional advancement and business acumen.

• Next Gen Leader: Read self-help books, achieve Rhetoric skill level 10, and conduct positive business conversations. Reward: Earn additional lecture fees and leadership conversation options.

• Competent Talent: Shake hands with business contacts, practice investments, get promoted twice, and toast partnerships. Reward: Access to stock investment interactions with bonus relationship points.

Physical Training

Centered on physical fitness and athletic achievement.

• Fitness Master: Buy fitness equipment, work out 20 times while focused, read health books, and reach Fitness skill level 10. Reward: "Show Off Muscles" interaction and workout advice conversations.

• Master Swimmer: Reach Swimming skill level 10 and win swimming competitions. Swimming was introduced with the Island Getaway DLC (v0.3.0). Reward: Slower vitality drain and increased competition win chances.

Family Happiness

Centers on building strong family bonds and parenting.

• Loving Family: Form a family, conduct 50 positive partner conversations, and have 30 positive interactions with children. Reward: Family counseling conversation with bonus relationship points.

• Parenting Expert: Complete 50 child-rearing actions, tell bedtime stories, play with children, and sing to children. Reward: Access to babysitting jobs and parenting tip conversations.

Harmony and Peace

For Zois who seek inner tranquility and connection with nature.

• Plant Lover: Buy houseplants, water them regularly, arrange bonsai 5 times, and reach Gardening skill level 10. Reward: Instant plant growth ability and plant care advice interactions.

• Tranquil Mind: Purchase a yoga mat, meditate 50 times, and take 30 sunbed naps when uncomfortable. Reward: Permanent "Content" emotion and "Share Inner Peace" interaction.

Knowledge and Learning

Appeals to intellectually curious Zois.

• Walking Encyclopedia: Fix objects, create 20 videos, and reach level 10 in 5 different skills. Reward: Fewer object malfunctions and fires; bonus experience in domestic and crafting skills.

• Knowledge Seeker: Buy a bookshelf, read extensively, write on a computer 20 times, and reach Critical Thinking skill level 10. Reward: Bonus skill experience for intellectual pursuits.

Creative Expression

For Zois who want to master artistic disciplines. This category has three paths.

Pursuit of Love

For the romantically inclined.

• Nation's Sweetheart: Conduct romantic conversations, reach Charm skill level 10, and establish 5 True Love relationships. Reward: Increased romantic conversation scores and "Express Attraction" interaction.

• Partners in Love: Create mutual crushes, serenade your sweetheart, propose during the "Aflutter" emotion, and show affection 20 times in a True Love relationship. Reward: Relationship advice conversation access.

Community Contribution

About giving back to the community and building friendships.

• Philanthropist: Send letters, donate via mailbox and ATM, donate to homeless Zois 10 times, and sign the organ donation registry. Reward: Receive thank-you messages and anonymous currency gifts from supporters.

• Cheerful Neighbor: Build friendships, give gifts, establish 10 BFF relationships, and dance with a BFF 20 times. Reward: Increased friendship points in conversations and "Pleasant Dance" interaction.

Social Disorder

The criminal path for Zois who thrive on chaos.

• Notorious Villain: Engage in destructive behaviors, start fights, commit crimes, get arrested 5 times, and spread false information. Reward: Special villain-tier interactions and increased notoriety.

• Famous Hackers: Achieve Programming skills, commit scams, hack ATMs and banks, and get arrested 5 times. Reward: Higher hacking competition win chances and "Spread Malicious Code" interaction.

Ambitions Added in v0.5.0 (December 2025)

The v0.5.0 update added three new ambition categories with associated sub-ambitions, along with rebalanced rewards for existing ambitions:

Lifehacker

Domestic wellness and practical home skills.

• Cleanliness Champion: Reach Housework skill level 10 and complete 20 laundry actions. Reward: "Professional Cleaning" interaction and cleanliness advice conversations.

• Master Chef: Cook from the refrigerator 30 times and reach Cooking skill level 10. Reward: Post cooking recipes to social media and teach cooking mindset conversations.

Collecting and Crafting

For Zois who enjoy gathering resources and crafting items. This category has three paths, utilizing skills introduced with the Island Getaway DLC.

Business Flourishing

For Zois who own and operate businesses, utilizing the business ownership system introduced in v0.5.0.

• Savvy Entrepreneur: Achieve a business value level of "Local Representative Store," hire 2 employees, and generate significant business revenue. Reward: Reduced operational costs and enhanced business interactions.

Progression and Rewards

Each ambition consists of three levels with escalating requirements. To complete one level, all tasks within that level must be fulfilled. Level 1 goals are typically straightforward (buy equipment, start an activity), Level 2 goals require sustained effort (reach mid-range skill levels, complete actions multiple times), and Level 3 goals demand mastery (reach skill level 10, accumulate large sums of Meow, or complete high-count action requirements).

Desired Life System

The Desired Life system works alongside ambitions as a broader character archetype. Players can choose from 16 different Desired Lives when creating a Zoi, or select "Life of Self-Creation" for complete freedom with no preset traits or ambitions. Each Desired Life pre-selects a combination of traits, values, preferences, aligned skills, and a default ambition that match the chosen lifestyle.

The 16 Desired Lives include Life of Self-Creation, Life of Tranquility, Life of Advancement, Life of Freedom, Life of Perseverance, Life of Wisdom, Life of Creativity, Life of Contribution, Life of Simplicity, Life of Harmony, Life of Abundance, Life of Respectability, and Life of Excitement, among others. For example, a Zoi with the "Life of Creativity" Desired Life starts with artistic traits like Visionary and Dreamer, plus the "Great Painter" ambition pre-selected. However, the Desired Life is only a starting template; players can change any of its components, including the ambition, at any point during gameplay.

Relationship to Traits and Emotions

Ambitions are tightly integrated with the broader mentality system. When an ambition is selected, it influences the Zoi's urges, the spontaneous desires that drive autonomous behavior. A Zoi with the "Fitness Master" ambition will naturally feel the urge to exercise, while one pursuing "Knowledge Seeker" will gravitate toward reading and studying.

This means ambitions are not just goals to check off but active shapers of a Zoi's daily life. The interplay between ambitions, traits, and emotions creates emergent behavior patterns where a Zoi's personality and aspirations visibly guide their autonomous actions, conversations, and reactions to the world around them. For instance, a Zoi pursuing "Famous Hackers" under Social Disorder with a preference for Video Games will autonomously seek out computers and gravitate toward improving their Programming skill.
