Fire
Fire is a hazard mechanic in inZOI that can break out in homes and on community lots. Fires destroy objects, damage property, and can kill Zois if not dealt with quickly. Understanding what causes fires, how they spread, and the tools available to fight them is essential for keeping your household safe. Fire mechanics interact with several other systems including the emotions system, death mechanics, and the insurance system.
Causes of Fire
Fires in inZOI can start from several sources. The most common cause is cooking: a Zoi with low cooking skill is more likely to cause a kitchen fire while using a stove or oven. Fires can also break out from electronic devices and appliances, especially those that are in poor condition or have been used extensively without repair. Broken or malfunctioning appliances carry a heightened fire risk.

Cause | Risk Factors | Prevention |
|---|---|---|
Low cooking skill, unattended stove/oven | Level up cooking skill; stay near kitchen while cooking | |
Electronics | Old or heavily used electronics | Repair or replace aging devices regularly |
Broken Appliances | Items in disrepair or malfunctioning | Fix broken items promptly; hire repair service |
Fireplaces | Open flames near flammable objects | Keep flammable items away from fireplace area |
Fire Spread
Once a fire starts, it spreads to nearby flammable objects. Furniture, rugs, curtains, and wooden items can all catch fire if they are within range of an existing flame. Fires grow progressively larger and more dangerous the longer they burn. If left completely unchecked, a fire can consume an entire room and spread to adjacent rooms. The speed of fire spread depends on how many flammable objects are nearby; dense clusters of furniture burn faster than sparse rooms.
Fire Alarms
Fire alarms are purchasable objects available in Build Mode. When placed on a wall or ceiling, a fire alarm will trigger an audible alert when a fire breaks out in its coverage area, immediately notifying all Zois in the household. The alarm helps ensure that Zois react to fires quickly rather than discovering them only when they enter the room.
It is important to note that fire alarms in inZOI do not automatically call the fire department. The alarm only alerts the Zois in the home. A Zoi must manually choose to call the firefighters using the Report Fire interaction, or the player can direct a Zoi to fight the fire themselves.
Fire Extinguishers
Fire extinguishers are also available in Build Mode and can be mounted on walls. When a fire breaks out, a Zoi can grab the fire extinguisher and use it to put out flames. Fire extinguishers are the primary tool for fighting small fires before they spread.
One important detail: fire extinguishers themselves can catch fire if they are placed too close to a blaze. If the fire reaches the extinguisher before a Zoi grabs it, the extinguisher may be destroyed, leaving the household without a firefighting tool. Place fire extinguishers near potential fire sources but not directly adjacent to stoves or fireplaces. A bug in earlier versions (fixed in v0.1.5) sometimes prevented Zois from using fire extinguishers properly; this has been resolved in the current version.
Sprinkler Systems
As of the current version of inZOI, there are no sprinkler systems available. The only tools for fighting fires are fire extinguishers and the firefighter response. This may change in future updates as the game continues through Early Access development.

Zoi Reactions to Fire
When a fire breaks out, Zois in the vicinity will react based on their personality and the available options. There are four main reactions a Zoi can take:
Reaction | Description |
|---|---|
Put Out Fire | The Zoi attempts to extinguish the fire using a fire extinguisher (if available) or by stomping on small flames |
Report Fire | The Zoi calls the fire department; firefighters will arrive after a short delay |
Evacuate | The Zoi flees the building to safety; useful when the fire is too large to fight |
Fire! (Panic) | The Zoi panics and stands in place, unable to act; this is the most dangerous reaction |
The panic reaction ("Fire!") is particularly dangerous because the Zoi remains near the fire without taking any action. If a Zoi panics, the player should manually direct another Zoi to either fight the fire or help the panicking Zoi evacuate. Zois who are already in a negative emotional state are more likely to panic.
Firefighter Response
When a Zoi uses the Report Fire interaction, firefighters are dispatched to the location. The fire department arrives after a short delay and will work to extinguish the fire. Firefighters are NPC characters who arrive in a fire truck and use professional equipment to put out the blaze. They are generally effective at handling fires that have not yet consumed the entire building.
The player cannot control firefighters directly. They will autonomously target the largest fire source and work outward. If the fire is very large by the time they arrive, they may not be able to save all objects in the affected area.
Fire Death
If a Zoi remains in a fire for too long without escaping or being rescued, they will die from the fire. Fire death is one of several death types in inZOI. When a Zoi dies in a fire, they become a ghost and can haunt the property.
Fire ghosts have a unique ability: they can set objects on fire. This makes fire ghosts particularly problematic if they become hostile or if the player does not manage them. A fire ghost haunting a home can repeatedly start new fires, creating a dangerous cycle. Players dealing with a fire ghost should consider resolving the ghost's unfinished business or using other ghost management mechanics to prevent repeated fire incidents.
Property Insurance
The Property Insurance system in inZOI provides financial protection against fire damage. If a household has an active property insurance policy, the insurance will cover a portion of the repair and replacement costs for objects destroyed by fire. Without insurance, the player must pay the full replacement cost out of their Zoi's Meow savings.

Insurance does not prevent fires or reduce their spread. It is purely a financial safety net for after the fire has been dealt with. For expensive homes with high-value furnishings, property insurance is strongly recommended.
Fire Prevention Rate
inZOI includes a Fire Prevention Rate slider in the gameplay settings. This slider adjusts the probability of fires breaking out during normal gameplay. Players who prefer a more relaxed experience can increase the fire prevention rate to make fires less common, while players who want a more challenging simulation can decrease it. This setting does not affect fire behavior once a fire has started; it only controls how likely fires are to ignite in the first place.
Tips for Fire Safety
Place fire alarms in every room, especially the kitchen and near fireplaces.
Mount fire extinguishers on kitchen walls but not directly next to the stove.
Level up the cooking skill to reduce kitchen fire risk.
Repair broken appliances promptly; malfunctioning items are more likely to catch fire.
Keep flammable objects (rugs, curtains, wooden furniture) away from heat sources.
Purchase Property Insurance to cover fire damage costs.
If a fire breaks out, direct one Zoi to Report Fire and another to use the extinguisher.
Never leave a panicking Zoi unattended near a fire; manually redirect them to evacuate.
