Overview
Insurance is a financial system in inZOI that allows households to protect themselves against unexpected events. Introduced in the v0.3.0 update (August 20, 2025) alongside the Island Getaway DLC, three types of insurance policies are available: Death Insurance, Property Insurance, and Natural Disaster Insurance. Each policy charges a recurring premium in Meow (the in-game currency, also referred to as Mu) and pays out a lump sum when the covered event occurs. Policies are purchased through the Insurance app on a Zoi's smartphone or home computer, and they apply to the entire household rather than individual Zois.
How to purchase insurance
To buy an insurance policy, pick up your Zoi's phone or have them use a computer, then navigate to the Insurance app. The app presents all available policy types with their premium costs and payout details. Select the type of insurance you want, choose the premium tier you can afford, confirm, and the policy becomes active immediately.
Insurance premiums are deducted automatically on a recurring schedule as part of the household's regular bills cycle. If your household cannot afford the premium when it comes due, the policy may lapse. Managing your Meow income through careers, fishing, selling items at market stalls, or other income sources ensures you can maintain coverage without financial strain.
Policy types
Death Insurance
Death Insurance provides a financial safety net when a household member dies. In inZOI, Zois can die from various causes (see the Deaths article for a full list of death types).
Item | Description |
|---|---|
Premium | 100 Meow every 3 in-game days |
Payout | 10,000 Meow, paid to the surviving household members |
Coverage | all household members are covered under a single policy |
The payout of 10,000 Meow is a substantial sum. For context, many starting households have budgets of only a few thousand Meow. When a covered Zoi dies, the payout is deposited directly into the household funds. This can be especially valuable for households that rely heavily on a single income earner, as it provides a financial buffer during the transition period after a death.
The cost-benefit calculation is straightforward. At 100 Meow every 3 days, the policy costs roughly 33 Meow per day. If a Zoi lives for 300 in-game days before dying, the household will have paid approximately 10,000 Meow in premiums, essentially breaking even. Death Insurance is most valuable for elderly Zois approaching the Senior life stage or those in dangerous situations where death is statistically more likely in the near term.
Death types covered
Death Insurance covers all causes of death in inZOI. The confirmed death types include:
Old age natural death when a Zoi reaches the end of their lifespan in the Senior age group. The exact age varies from Zoi to Zoi.
Starvation death from malnutrition after approximately 2 in-game days without food.
Sleep deprivation death from extreme exhaustion. The game displays a warning popup with a countdown timer before this occurs.
Fire death from being trapped in a house fire, which can be caused by kitchen accidents or broken appliances left unattended.
Heatstroke death from overheating during a heatwave disaster when the temperature rises above 30°C (86°F).
Vehicle collision death when a Zoi is struck by another Zoi's car.
Electrocution death with a random chance when attempting to hack an ATM.
Slip and fall death when a Zoi slips on a wet floor from broken utilities that hasn't been mopped up.
Property Insurance
Property Insurance covers damage to the household's home and belongings. This includes broken appliances, fire damage, and other forms of property destruction that can occur during gameplay.
Item | Description |
|---|---|
Premium | varies by policy tier selected in the Insurance app |
Payout | compensates the cost of repairing or replacing damaged property (per the claim amount) |
Coverage | covers the entire household property, structure, furniture, and appliances |
Property damage in inZOI can happen in several ways. Appliances can break down from regular use, fires can start from cooking accidents or faulty equipment, and wet floors from broken utilities can cause damage. Without insurance, the household must pay full repair or replacement costs out of pocket. Property Insurance cushions these expenses by providing reimbursement according to the policy terms.
The practical value of Property Insurance depends on how frequently your household experiences damage. Households with many appliances, active cooking setups, and lower skills (which correlate with more accidents) benefit most from this coverage.
Natural Disaster Insurance
Natural Disaster Insurance specifically covers damage caused by extreme weather events:
Item | Description |
|---|---|
Premium | varies by policy tier |
Payout | 1,500 Meow when a qualifying natural disaster damages your household |
Coverage | all weather-related damage to home, belongings, and crops |
Natural disasters
Three types of natural disasters can trigger Natural Disaster Insurance claims. These dynamic weather events were introduced in v0.3.0 and can impact entire cities, canceling scheduled activities, damaging property, and creating hazards for Zois:
Heavy Rain intense rainfall that can cause flooding and frequent lightning strikes. Lightning can damage outdoor structures and equipment. Heavy rain is noted as being particularly common in Cahaya and prevents Zois from driving cars during the event, requiring travel on foot or by boat.
Heatwave extreme heat that raises the temperature above 30°C (86°F), increasing the risk of Zois overheating. If nothing is done, a Zoi can die of heatstroke (see Deaths). Heatwaves can also damage crops in gardening plots. Heatwaves can occur in any city.
Yellow Dust also referred to as dust storms. Yellow dust may damage crops and outdoor property. Particularly threatening to farming operations.
Natural disasters occur based on the in-game weather system and cannot be reliably predicted in advance. Some community members have reported what feels like excessive disaster frequency. The 1,500 Meow payout helps offset the costs of repairing damage and replacing destroyed crops or property.
Managing policies
All insurance policies can be managed through the Insurance app on the phone or computer:
Viewing active policies the app shows all current policies, their premium amounts, and payment schedule.
Canceling a policy select an active policy and choose to cancel it. Cancellation takes effect immediately. No further premiums will be charged.
Claims processing when a covered event occurs, the payout is processed automatically. The Meow is deposited directly into household funds.
You can hold multiple insurance types simultaneously. Many players recommend maintaining at least Death Insurance for households with elderly Zois, as the 10,000 Meow payout significantly exceeds the cumulative premiums if the Zoi dies within a reasonable timeframe.
Interaction with other systems
Death system
Death Insurance directly interacts with the death system in inZOI. When a Zoi dies (whether from old age, heatstroke during a heatwave, fire, starvation, sleep deprivation, or any other cause) the Death Insurance payout triggers automatically if a policy is active. The 10,000 Meow is deposited into the household funds and can be used by surviving members for rent, bills, groceries, or any other expense.
For players who enjoy the challenge of managing multi-generational households, Death Insurance provides stability during generational transitions. When the family patriarch or matriarch passes away, the insurance payout can sustain the household while younger members establish their own careers and income sources.
Weather system
Natural Disaster Insurance ties into inZOI's dynamic weather system. Weather conditions change throughout gameplay, and while most weather is harmless (sunny days, light rain, cloudy skies), extreme events can strike without warning. Heavy rain is particularly notable in Cahaya due to its tropical climate and can prevent Zois from using vehicles during the event.
Bills and finances
Insurance premiums are part of the broader financial management system in inZOI. The v0.3.0 update also introduced loans and budget tracking alongside insurance. Households must balance insurance costs against other recurring expenses like rent, utilities, and loan payments. The Meow and Economy article covers the full scope of household finances. Players who keep a close eye on their budget can determine whether insurance premiums are a worthwhile investment or an unnecessary drain on limited resources.
Is insurance worth it?
The value of each insurance type depends on your household's circumstances:
Death Insurance
Item | Description |
|---|---|
Recommended for | households with elderly Zois approaching the Senior life stage, single-income families, or players who want financial stability through generational transitions |
Skip if | your household has substantial savings (well over 10,000 Meow) and multiple income earners, making the payout less impactful |
Break-even point | approximately 300 in-game days of premium payments (100 payments of 100 Meow = 10,000 Meow) |
Property Insurance
Recommended for: households with expensive furniture and appliances, Zois with low skill levels who cause more accidents (kitchen fires, broken utilities), and large homes with many breakable items
Skip if: your household has minimal furnishings or your Zois have high enough skills to avoid most accidents
Natural Disaster Insurance
Item | Description |
|---|---|
Recommended for | households with significant outdoor investments, large gardens, farm plots, outdoor living spaces, particularly in areas with frequent weather events |
Skip if | your household is primarily indoors-focused with minimal outdoor property or crops at risk |
Note | at 1,500 Meow per disaster payout, this insurance is most valuable for households that experience frequent natural disasters. Some players have reported high disaster frequency that makes this insurance worthwhile. |
Tips
Always maintain Death Insurance for households with only one or two members. The loss of a Zoi without insurance can be financially devastating.
The Insurance app is available on both the phone and the computer, whichever is more convenient.
Insurance premiums are small relative to the Meow earned from a solid career, active fishing strategy, or selling crafted items at market stalls. Even a few premium fish catches per billing cycle can cover all your insurance costs.
If your Zoi is approaching the Senior life stage, purchase Death Insurance before they enter this highest-risk period.
Property Insurance becomes more valuable as your home grows. A starter house with basic furniture has less to lose than a fully decorated home filled with expensive appliances.
Keep an eye on the weather. If heavy rain or heatwaves are frequent in your region, Natural Disaster Insurance becomes a more prudent investment, especially if you have active gardening plots that can be destroyed.
Remember that Natural Disaster Insurance pays 1,500 Meow per event. If your region experiences multiple disasters, the total payouts can significantly exceed the premiums paid.
You can cancel any policy at any time through the Insurance app. If your financial situation changes or you no longer need a particular type of coverage, cancel to save on premiums.
