Overview
Baking is a skill in inZOI that was introduced in the December 2025 update (v0.5.0) alongside the business management system and Drink Mixing. The Baking skill gives Zois the ability to make baked goods separate from the Cooking skill. While Cooking covers meals made through the refrigerator, stovetop, and induction cooktops, Baking specifically focuses on oven-based desserts and pastries, ranging from cookies to cakes.
The Baking skill is closely tied to the Small Business System introduced in the same update. Players can open their own bakery, stock display cases with freshly baked goods, and sell to customers during business hours. Combined with Coffee Craft and Cooking, Baking enables Zois to run fully stocked cafes and bakeries.
As of the March 2026 update, a dedicated Baking Master ambition has been added, giving players a structured goal track for mastering the skill. The same update introduced the ability for Zois to start baking by interacting with the refrigerator in addition to the oven, and improved animations for eating baked items.
How to Start Baking
To begin developing the Baking skill, a Zoi needs access to an oven in their home or business lot. The basic steps are:

Purchase and place an oven through Build Mode. Ovens are found in the kitchen appliances section of the furniture catalog.
Interact with the oven and select the baking option to open the recipe panel.
Choose a recipe from the available list. Recipes that are locked require a higher Baking skill level.
The Zoi will prepare and bake the item. Successful completions award Baking skill experience.
Unlike Cooking, which is initiated primarily through the refrigerator, Baking is performed directly at the oven. A countertop should also be present in the room, as some recipes require preparation steps before items go into the oven.
Starting with the March 2026 update, Zois can also initiate baking by interacting with the refrigerator. This provides a convenient alternative, especially for business lots where Zois need to stock display cases. When using the refrigerator method, the Zoi gathers ingredients and then walks to the oven to begin the baking process automatically.
Required Equipment
The following kitchen items are relevant to the Baking skill:
Equipment | Purpose |
|---|---|
Oven | The primary appliance required for all baking recipes. Multiple oven styles are available in Build Mode at different price points. More expensive ovens do not directly increase recipe quality, but they may have faster completion times and different aesthetic options. |
Countertop | Needed for dough preparation and recipe assembly before items go into the oven. Without a countertop in the same room, some recipes cannot be started. |
Refrigerator | Used for stocking business display cases via the Fill Baking command. Also stores ingredients for recipes that require them. As of the March 2026 update, the refrigerator can also be used to initiate the baking process directly. |
Display Cases | Required for bakery and confectionery businesses. Freshly baked goods are placed in display cases for customers to browse and purchase. Available in the commercial furniture section of Build Mode. |
Ensure that the kitchen has enough space for all items. A poorly laid-out kitchen can cause pathing issues where the Zoi gets stuck trying to navigate between appliances, wasting valuable time. Place the oven and countertop close together to minimize travel distance between preparation steps.
Skill Progression
Baking follows the standard Level 0 through Level 10 progression. New recipes unlock as the skill increases, and higher-quality baked goods sell for more Meow when placed in a business. The v0.5.0 patch notes confirm that skill experience gains from interactions and activities have been increased across the board, making it easier to level up all skills including Baking.
Leveling Method | Details |
|---|---|
Bake items at an oven | The primary leveling method. Each successful bake gives XP. More complex recipes at higher levels reward more experience per completion. |
Practice baking recipes | Repeating recipes still provides XP, though at a gradually diminishing rate for recipes far below the Zoi's current skill level. Higher-level recipes give more. |
Run a bakery business | Operating a bakery provides passive Baking XP through business activities. Stocking display cases and fulfilling customer orders both contribute to skill growth. |
Study baking (books/TV) | Gives a small amount of passive XP. Watching cooking shows on television or reading skill-related books can supplement active baking practice. |
The fastest way to level Baking is to bake repeatedly. Each successful completion provides skill experience. Quality of baked goods depends on the Zoi's skill level, emotional state, and needs satisfaction. A Zoi who is well-rested, well-fed, and in a positive mood (such as Concentrated or Focused) will produce better results than one who is tired, hungry, or in a negative emotional state.
Food Quality Tiers
Baked goods, like cooked meals, are produced at one of three quality levels. The quality tier of the finished product affects its sale price, hunger satisfaction, and visual presentation.
Quality Tier | Description | Factors |
|---|---|---|
Poor | The lowest quality tier. The item sells for a reduced price and provides less hunger satisfaction when consumed. | Low skill level, negative mood, or unmet needs during baking. |
Good | The standard quality tier. The item sells for its base price and provides normal hunger satisfaction. | Moderate skill level with stable mood and needs. |
Excellent | The highest quality tier. The item sells for a premium price and provides the most hunger satisfaction. Excellent-quality items also generate higher customer satisfaction in businesses. | High skill level, positive mood (Concentrated, Focused), and all needs well-satisfied. |
A higher Baking skill level increases the probability of producing Good or Excellent items. At low skill levels, most results will be Poor or Good. By Level 7 or 8, most baked goods should consistently reach Good quality, with Excellent results becoming more frequent. At Level 10, Excellent is the most common outcome when the Zoi is in optimal condition.
Quality also affects business star ratings. Consistently stocking Excellent-quality baked goods improves customer reviews and attracts more foot traffic, which in turn raises daily revenue.
Recipes
The Baking skill covers oven-made goods including cookies, pastries, breads, and cakes. Specific recipes unlock at various skill levels. Prior to the v0.5.0 update, several oven-based recipes were part of the Cooking skill:
Recipe | Price (Meow) | Former Skill Requirement | Equipment |
|---|---|---|---|
Egg Bread | 6 | Cooking Level 0 | Countertop, Oven |
French Toast | 6 | Cooking Level 0 | Countertop, Oven |
Pizza | 32 | Cooking Level 3 | Countertop, Oven |
Cake | 35 | Cooking Level 3 | Countertop, Oven |
Birthday Cake | 45 | Cooking Level 3 | Countertop, Oven |
The v0.5.0 update introduced Baking as its own dedicated skill with a separate set of dessert recipes that expanded on this original oven-based lineup. The full Baking recipe panel in-game is organized by skill level requirement, with beginner recipes available immediately and more elaborate items unlocking as the Zoi progresses. Higher-level recipes generally require more preparation time but yield greater Meow returns when sold through a business.
Recipe Categories
Baking recipes fall into several broad categories based on the type of baked good produced:
Category | Description | Examples |
|---|---|---|
Breads | Basic oven-baked goods that serve as introductory recipes. Generally available at low skill levels and produce items with modest sale values. | Egg Bread, French Toast |
Cookies | Smaller baked items that can be produced quickly. The Holiday Festival introduced a special Cookie Man Crafting Kit for seasonal cookie baking. | Cookies, Cookie Man (seasonal) |
Cakes | Mid-to-high level recipes that take longer to prepare but have among the highest sale values. Birthday Cakes are popular for celebrations and business sales alike. | Cake, Birthday Cake |
Pastries | A range of oven-baked sweet items that unlock at various skill levels. Pastry recipes benefit from higher skill to achieve Excellent quality consistently. | Various pastry recipes |
Savory Baked Goods | Not all baking recipes are desserts. Pizza and similar items fall under the Baking skill since they require oven preparation. | Pizza |
The recipe panel in-game displays each item's required Baking skill level, Meow cost to prepare, equipment needed, and any special ingredients. Locked recipes appear greyed out with the required skill level shown, giving players a clear progression target.
Family-Size Batches
The v0.5.0 update introduced family-size recipes that enable baking multiple servings simultaneously. Rather than producing a single serving per bake, selecting the Cook for Household option before starting a recipe produces enough servings for every household member. This is especially useful for bakery businesses, as group-sized batches produce more items per cooking action, keeping display cases stocked without requiring repeated individual bakes.
According to player reports, group meals and desserts sell for roughly 10 times their production cost, making batch preparation one of the most profitable strategies for bakery owners. The time investment per batch is only slightly longer than a single serving, so the profit-per-hour is significantly better.
Baking vs. Cooking
Baking and Cooking are separate skills that level independently. Understanding the differences is important for players who want to maximize their food preparation abilities:
Aspect | Baking | Cooking |
|---|---|---|
Equipment | Oven | Stove, oven, and refrigerator |
Focus | Desserts, breads, pastries | Meals, soups, general food |
Initiated from | Oven directly (or refrigerator since March 2026) | Refrigerator |
Added in | v0.5.0 (December 2025) | Launch (March 2025) |
Business link | Bakery, Confectionery | Restaurant, Confectionery |
Hunger satisfaction | Partial | Full meals |
Quality tiers | Poor, Good, Excellent | Poor, Good, Excellent |
Ambition | Baking Master (March 2026) | Master Chef |
A Zoi who develops both Cooking and Baking can operate a restaurant or cafe that serves a full menu. Savory main courses from Cooking, baked desserts from Baking, and beverages from Coffee Craft. This combination provides the most versatile business setup available in the game. Time spent cooking meals does not improve Baking, and time spent baking does not improve Cooking; the two skills must be leveled independently through their respective activities.
Baking Master Ambition
The March 2026 update introduced the Baking Master ambition as part of a set of three new food-skill ambitions (alongside Coffee Master and Drink Mixing Master). Ambitions are long-term goal tracks that give Zois structured objectives to work toward and reward progression with unlocks and recognition.
The Baking Master ambition challenges players to reach the highest levels of the Baking skill, produce high-quality baked goods consistently, and demonstrate mastery through a series of milestone tasks. Completing the ambition marks the Zoi as a master baker, which is recorded in the new Milestones system also introduced in the March 2026 update.
Players pursuing the Baking Master ambition should focus on leveling the skill as quickly as possible through repeated baking, running a bakery business for passive XP, and keeping the Zoi in a positive emotional state to produce Excellent-quality items. The ambition pairs naturally with operating a bakery or confectionery business, since many of its goals align with activities a business owner would already be performing.
Holiday Festival and Seasonal Baking
The v0.5.0 update also introduced the Holiday Festival, a limited-time event that ran through January 31, 2026, accessible at each city's main parks. The festival featured several booths connected to baking:
Event | Description |
|---|---|
Ingredients Booth | Sold up to 3 different crafting kits that could be used to make cookies, including the Cookie Man Crafting Kit. These kits provided a seasonal way to engage with the Baking skill outside of the standard oven workflow. |
Snack Booth | Offered winter-themed treats including candy canes, hot chocolate, and gingerbread cookies. These items could be purchased and consumed directly. |
Cookie Man Crafting Kit | A special seasonal item that allowed Zois to craft gingerbread-style cookies. The crafting kit was a self-contained experience separate from the standard Baking recipe panel. |
While the Holiday Festival was a time-limited event, it demonstrated KRAFTON's interest in expanding seasonal baking content. Future festivals and events may introduce additional limited-time recipes and crafting kits tied to the Baking skill.
Running a Bakery Business
The Baking skill is designed to integrate with the business system introduced in v0.5.0. Here is how to set up a bakery:
Purchase a business property through the Edit City window in the game menu. Look for properties marked as Business Property.
Register the business by clicking the property and selecting Register Business, or use the Business App on the Zoi's smartphone.
Select the Bakery preset from the Business Type options. This automatically configures the lot with appropriate customer activities and management settings suited to a bakery operation.
Set business hours through the Business Settings menu. Choose the days and times your bakery will be open. Consider your Zoi's schedule and energy levels when setting hours.
Select recipes in the Business Settings. These determine which baked goods your Zoi will prepare for sale. Focus on recipes that match or fall below your current Baking skill level to maintain consistent quality.
Stock the display cases by interacting with the refrigerator and selecting Stock Your Market Items, then choosing Fill Baking. Your Zoi will bake items according to the selected recipes and place them in display cases around the store.
Customers automatically visit the business during open hours. They browse the display cases, pick up items, and purchase them. Customer satisfaction depends on furniture quality, pricing, product quality, and employee responsiveness. Daily reviews provide feedback on how the business is performing, and the March 2026 update added a tip jar feature where customers leave tips based on satisfaction, providing an additional revenue stream.
Employees and Management
As the business grows, players can hire acquaintances or household members as employees. Employees autonomously perform duties including baking, service, and cleaning. Salaries are calculated based on business level, salary rank, and working hours.
The v0.5.0 update also introduced family-size recipes that enable cooking multiple servings simultaneously, which is useful for keeping display cases stocked. Employees can be assigned to specific recipes in the Business Settings, and it is best to assign recipes that match their individual Baking skill level. An employee with a low skill level assigned to a high-level recipe will produce mostly Poor-quality items, which hurts customer satisfaction and reviews.
Be aware that employees will occasionally slack off, chat with each other, or take breaks during working hours. The owner's direct presence at the business helps keep productivity up. Players who cannot be present for every business hour should consider hiring additional staff to compensate for downtime.
Bakery Profitability
A well-run bakery combined with a cafe component (adding Coffee Craft products) can generate strong daily profits. Community reports on the Steam forums suggest that food businesses can earn between 4,500 and 13,000 Meow daily depending on the star rating and product selection.
Key profitability tips from players:
Prioritize expensive recipes. Make the items that unlock with higher Baking skill levels. These have significantly better profit margins than beginner recipes.
Use group-sized batches. Prepare group-sized batches rather than single servings. Group meals and desserts sell for roughly 10 times their production cost, according to player reports.
Pre-stock before opening. Stock items before business hours begin. This reduces the amount of baking your Zoi or employees need to do during peak customer hours and ensures customers always find items on the shelves.
Diversify the menu. Combine baked goods with coffee and cooked meals to increase the range of products available to customers. A bakery-cafe hybrid draws more customers than a bakery selling only one type of item.
Stay present at the business. Your Zoi's physical presence at the business matters. Revenue drops significantly when you are not in the area, so visit your businesses regularly.
Hire and train employees. Hire employees once the business is established to keep the shop stocked and running during off-hours. Assign them to recipes that match their skill levels for the best quality output.
Aim for higher star ratings. Higher-rated businesses significantly improve profits, but the initial startup phase is often challenging. A 2-star cafe with focus on expensive dishes can earn around 13,000 Meow per day, while a lower-rated establishment may only earn around 4,500 Meow.
The business system was newly introduced in v0.5.0 and has been refined through subsequent hotfixes. Some players have reported bugs with display cases not stocking correctly or items disappearing. KRAFTON has been addressing these issues through regular patches.
Food Spoilage
Baked goods can spoil if left out for too long. This applies to items placed on countertops, tables, or in display cases. Spoiled items cannot be sold to customers and must be discarded, representing a loss of both ingredients and preparation time.
To manage spoilage effectively:
Stock fresh items regularly rather than preparing a large batch hours before business opens.
Monitor display cases during business hours and replace items as they sell or approach their expiration window.
Store ingredients in the refrigerator. Items stored in the fridge last longer than those left on counters.
If operating a bakery, consider staggering baking sessions throughout the business day to keep a rotation of fresh products available.
Food safety is a recurring theme across both Baking and Cooking. Spoiled food left unattended can also create a negative environment effect in the room, lowering the mood of Zois and customers nearby.
Business Types
Baking integrates with several business presets:
Business Type | Baking Role | Recommended Pairing |
|---|---|---|
Bakery | Core skill. Higher Baking levels unlock better products and attract more customers. The primary business type for players focused on the Baking skill. | Coffee Craft for beverages |
Confectionery | Shared between Baking and Cooking. Baking provides the dessert and sweet item recipes, while Cooking covers savory snacks and prepared meals. Both skills contribute to the Confectionery menu. | Cooking for a full sweet-and-savory menu |
Cafe | Complementary. Pair baked goods with Coffee Craft beverages for a full cafe menu. Customers expect both drinks and food at a cafe. | Coffee Craft, Cooking |
Restaurant | Secondary role. Baking adds dessert options to a restaurant menu dominated by Cooking recipes. Not the primary skill, but valuable for a complete dining experience. | Cooking (primary), Coffee Craft |
A Zoi with low Baking skill can still open a bakery, but the products will be lower quality, sell for less Meow, and draw fewer customers. Leveling up before opening is strongly recommended, especially to at least Level 3 where Cake and Birthday Cake recipes become available.
A single household can own multiple businesses, so consider opening both a bakery and a cafe on separate lots for diversified income streams. Some players run a bakery in Dowon and a cafe in Bliss Bay to maximize coverage across the map.
Multitasking and Recent Changes
The March 2026 update brought several quality-of-life improvements that affect Baking:
Change | Description |
|---|---|
Fridge-initiated baking | Zois can now start baking by interacting with refrigerators, not just ovens. This streamlines the workflow for business lots where display case stocking is the priority. |
Walking while eating | Zois can eat certain food items, including baked goods, while walking. This means they no longer have to sit down to consume a cookie or bread roll. |
Improved eating animations | Animations for eating baked items have been refined, making the consumption process look more natural. |
Table-required items | Certain food items (typically larger cakes and plated desserts) can now only be eaten when placed on a table, adding a layer of realism to the food system. |
Multitasking interactions | Zois can engage in conversations while holding food, and nearby interactions can catch their interest while they eat, allowing for more natural social behavior around mealtimes. |
Crafting at desks | Crafting (including some food-related crafting) can now be performed at any clear desk or table surface, expanding preparation options. |
Cooking interruption fix | Reduced the frequency of cooking and baking being cancelled due to a newborn's crying, a common frustration reported by players managing both a family and a business. |
Cheat Commands
Players who want to bypass the skill grind can use the cheat console to set their Baking skill level directly. Open the console with Ctrl + Shift + C (after enabling cheats in the Psycat's Advice menu) and use the setSkillLevel command with the Baking skill ID and desired level (0 through 10). This is useful for testing recipes, experimenting with business setups, or quickly reaching the requirements for the Baking Master ambition without spending hours grinding. Refer to the Cheats article for the full list of skill IDs and command syntax.
Tips
Level Baking alongside Cooking and Coffee Craft to unlock the maximum business potential. A Zoi skilled in all three can stock a cafe with meals, desserts, and beverages.
Keep your Zoi well-rested and in a positive mood before extended baking sessions to produce consistently higher-quality goods. The Concentrated and Focused emotions are particularly beneficial.
Place the oven and countertop close together in your kitchen layout to minimize the Zoi's travel time between preparation and baking steps. Poor furniture placement is one of the most common causes of wasted time.
If running a bakery, use the Fill Baking command through the refrigerator's Stock Your Market Items menu to batch-produce items for display cases efficiently.
Baking and Cooking are separate progressions. Time spent cooking meals does not improve Baking, and vice versa. Plan your skill development schedule accordingly.
Be aware that baked goods can spoil if left out too long. Stock fresh items regularly to maintain customer satisfaction and avoid wasting production time.
Some items like Birthday Cake may appear in both skill trees or may have been reclassified between updates. Check which skill currently applies before attempting a recipe.
Focus on the Baking Master ambition for a structured progression path. The ambition provides clear milestones and rewards that complement the standard skill leveling process.
When hiring employees for a bakery, assign recipes that match their Baking skill level. An unskilled employee baking advanced recipes will produce Poor-quality goods that hurt your business rating.
Consider the time of day when stocking your bakery. Preparing items just before opening ensures maximum freshness and reduces the risk of spoilage during off-peak hours.
Experiment with the Confectionery business type if you want to combine Baking and Cooking products in a single shop. The Confectionery draws from both skill trees, offering a wider menu without needing two separate businesses.
