Overview
Wagon trading is one of the most profitable activities in Crimson Desert. Players can build a wagon at Greymane Camp, load it with trade goods, and drive it to trading posts across Pywel to sell goods for profit. The system rewards planning and route knowledge, as prices fluctuate and different trading posts buy different goods. Combined with the Freesword Dispatch system, trading can generate a steady income stream throughout the mid and late game.
How to Unlock the Wagon
Building a wagon requires several steps and is typically available around Chapter 4 of the main story. Follow this sequence:
Step 1: Set up camp on Howling Hill and progress through the Greymane questline called "Grounds of the Sunrise." Recruit missing comrades to expand the camp.
Step 2: Complete the "Rumor in Glenbright Farm" quest to recruit Brice, who becomes the wagon manager (Wagonmaster) at camp.
Step 3: Speak to Brice to initiate his request for a cart. This unlocks access to the Timberturner Wainwright dispatch mission.
Step 4: Complete the "Rumor in St. Halssius" quest to recruit Arnold, who has the Engineering skill needed to build the wagon.
Step 5: Talk to Ross at camp to access Mission Dispatch. Select "Timberturner Wainwright" from the task list and assign your Engineering-skilled worker (Arnold or another Level 3 worker with Engineering).
Step 6: Wait for the dispatch mission to complete. Your team will gather timber and fittings, and the wagon will be built once they finish.
Larger wagons have more cargo slots but require more workers, longer crafting time, and additional resources. The Engineering skill only unlocks at worker Level 3, so you may need to upgrade your camp and recruit additional Greymanes before this becomes available.
Wagon Types
There are multiple wagon options available through the Timberturner Wainwright dispatch, each with different cargo capacity:
Wagon Type | Capacity | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Trading Wagon | Standard | Basic wagon; fewest resource requirements |
Freight Wagon | Medium | Larger capacity; requires more workers and materials |
Old Freight Trading Wagon | Varies | Alternative variant available through dispatch missions |
How Trading Works
Trading in Crimson Desert follows a buy-low, sell-high model. Trade goods have fluctuating prices that vary by location and time. The basic process is:
Pack goods at camp: Speak to Carl at Greymane Camp and select "Camp Resources Packaging" to convert provisions into packaged trade goods. Packing costs 100 Alms each from camp funds.
Load the wagon: Visit the Wagon Management Office and speak with Brice. Select your wagon, then move goods from your inventory into the wagon's cargo slots.
Drive to a trading post: Manually drive the wagon to your chosen trading destination. You cannot fast travel while driving a wagon.
Check demand: Before traveling, hover over a Trading Center on your map, press Inspect, then check the "Buying Items" and "Selling Items" tabs to see what each post trades.
Sell for profit: Sell your goods when prices are higher than the market price. Avoid selling when prices are below market value.
Trade goods are identifiable by a blue background in your inventory. High-value items include Calligraphic Paintings, Tobacco, Red Ginseng, and Ceramics. Many of these can be found in chests, on tables, or stolen from wealthy NPCs.
Trading Post Locations
There are two types of trading venues in Crimson Desert:
Trading Post | Location | Details |
|---|---|---|
Goldleaf Guildhouse | South of Unicorn Cliff | Speak to manager Ugmon. Requires minimum purchase/sale of 25 items per stack. Only buys listed items. |
Royal Trading Post | North of Hernand Castle | Automatically accepts qualifying goods upon arrival. Located near the castle. |
Wagon Black Market | North of Unicorn Cliff | For selling stolen wagons only. Not for regular trade goods. |
How to Obtain Trade Goods
There are four primary methods to acquire trade goods:
Production at camp: Use Carl's packaging option to convert camp provisions into trade goods. This is the most reliable method.
Freesword Dispatch: Send comrades with rare or advanced skills on dispatch missions. Workers can passively generate trade goods over time.
Exploration: Find trade goods randomly in chests and on surfaces throughout the world.
Theft: Steal items marked with a scale icon from NPCs or steal entire wagons from the road. Theft incurs a bounty on Kliff.
Selling Stolen Wagons
You can steal wagons directly from the road and sell them at the Wagon Black Market north of Unicorn Cliff. This is a fast but risky way to earn money, as stealing vehicles raises your crime level and may attract guards. Stolen wagons cannot be sold at legitimate trading posts.
Tips for Maximizing Profit
Save up camp funds through Freesword missions before starting trading runs.
Monitor goods at the Goldleaf Guildhouse for price fluctuations. Buy when prices are low and sell when they rise.
Always check the trading post's demand before loading your wagon. Posts only buy items they have listed.
Pack goods in bulk (minimum 25 stacks for Goldleaf) to make each trip worthwhile.
Packed goods transported by wagon fetch significantly higher prices than items sold individually.
Consider upgrading to a larger wagon once you have enough resources and workers.
Keep an eye out for high-value goods like Calligraphic Paintings, Tobacco, and Red Ginseng during exploration.
The Freesword Dispatch system is an excellent source of passive trade goods. Maintain active missions at all times.
