Trade Goods
Trade goods are high-value items in Crimson Desert that can be sold for personal silver or packaged and transported by wagon for camp funds. This guide covers how to find, package, and sell trade goods, all vendor and trading post locations, price fluctuation mechanics, and trade challenges.
Overview
Trade goods are valuable items in Crimson Desert that serve as one of the primary ways to earn money. They are identified by a blue background in your inventory and include items such as Calligraphic Paintings, Tobacco, Red Ginseng, and Ceramics. The trading system splits into two distinct paths: selling unpackaged goods directly at black market vendors for personal silver, or packaging goods and transporting them by wagon to trading centers for camp funds. Each path has different requirements, rewards, and levels of complexity.
Unpackaged trade goods are best for quick income during the early and mid-game. The packaged trade route demands more infrastructure (stables, a wagon shop, and a wagon) but feeds into a deeper economy with fluctuating prices and bulk selling that can generate large amounts of camp funds over time.
How to Obtain Trade Goods
There are four main ways to acquire trade goods. Some methods are available from the start of the game, while others unlock as you progress through the story and expand your camp.
Method | Details |
|---|---|
Stealing | Items marked with a scale icon can be stolen from NPCs, homes, and manors throughout Pywel. Wealthier locations like Glenbright Manor contain more trade goods. Stealing requires equipping a mask and using the focus/observe button (L1/LB on controller). Getting caught incurs a bounty, though fines can be paid to clear it. |
Looting | Trade goods can be found in chests, on tables, inside cabinets, and scattered across the open world during exploration. Keep an eye out for the blue item background that distinguishes trade goods from regular items. |
Dispatch Missions | The Freesword Dispatch System is the most reliable method for producing trade goods consistently. Assign companions with rare or advanced skills to dispatch missions to generate a steady supply of tradeable items. |
Wagon and Horse Theft | Wagons and horses carrying goods can be stolen and sold at the Wagon Black Market (for example, north of Unicorn Cliff). Note that stolen wagons cannot be used for your own trade routes. |
Unpackaged vs Packaged Goods
The distinction between unpackaged and packaged goods is central to the trading system. Each type is sold through different channels and earns a different currency.
Aspect | Unpackaged Goods | Packaged Goods |
|---|---|---|
Definition | Items held directly in your personal inventory as found. | Items converted through Carl at Greymane Camp. Moved to Camp Provisions once packed. |
Currency Earned | Coppers and silver (personal funds for Kliff) | Camp funds (Alms) for camp development |
Where to Sell | Black market vendors at Goldleaf Tradeposts and Back Alley Shops | Trading centers like the Goldleaf Guildhouse and Royal Trading Posts in major cities |
Transport | Sold directly from inventory. No wagon or horse required. | Must be loaded onto a horse at a stable or a wagon at a wagon depot, then transported to the trading center. |
Minimum Quantity | No minimum. Sell any amount. | The Goldleaf Guildhouse requires a minimum of 25 units per transaction. |
Packaging Cost | N/A | 100 Alms per item, deducted from camp funds. |
Reversible? | N/A | No. Once packaged, items cannot be unpacked. |
Best For | Early and mid-game income; quick silver for gear and supplies. | Long-term camp expansion; large-scale profit through price fluctuation. |
How to Sell Unpackaged Trade Goods
Unlocking the Ability to Sell
You cannot sell unpackaged trade goods until you complete Chapter 2 of the main story. After defeating Kailok the Hornsplitter, a cutscene introduces the first Goldleaf Trading Post. From that point on, black market vendors become available across the map.
Finding Black Market Vendors
Black market vendors are located at Goldleaf Tradeposts throughout Pywel. On the minimap and world map, look for small red tent icons. These mark the trading posts where black market merchants set up their stalls. The vendors are small green gremlin-like creatures at simple stalls, intentionally designed to look like underground dealers.
Known Black Market Locations
Goldleaf Trading Post near Hernand (east of Springtide Mill, southeast of Hernand). The vendor here is named Groks.
Goldleaf Trading Post near Nas River (north of Unicorn Cliff).
Pailune has black market vendors inside the city at Goldleaf Tradeposts.
Additional Goldleaf Tradeposts are scattered across every major region of Pywel. Each tradepost has both a legitimate trader and a black market merchant. As you explore and unfog the map, more locations will appear.
Selling Step by Step
Check your inventory for items with a blue background (these are trade goods).
Open the world map and look for the nearest red tent icon (Goldleaf Trading Post).
Travel to the trading post and find the gremlin vendor at the stall.
Interact with the vendor and press R (keyboard) to open the Sell menu.
Select the trade good you want to sell and set the quantity.
Confirm the sale. Silver is added to your personal funds immediately.
How to Package and Sell Packaged Trade Goods
Unlocking Packaging
The packaging system unlocks in Chapter 3 after you rebuild the Greymane Camp in Howling Hill. Rebuilding the camp gives you access to Carl, the Camp Provisioner. You also need to complete the Glenbright Manor investigation mission before the packaging menu becomes available.
Packaging with Carl
Visit Greymane Camp and speak with Carl, who is usually found near the wagon area.
Select "Manage Provisions," then choose "Camp Provisions."
Pick a trade good from your inventory and click the "Package Provisions" button.
Each item costs 100 Alms to package, deducted from your camp funds.
Once an item is packaged, it moves from your personal inventory to Camp Provisions. This process is permanent; there is currently no way to unpack goods once Carl has processed them. Plan carefully before packaging, since you are spending camp funds and locking in the items.
Transporting Packaged Goods
After packaging, you need to physically transport the goods to a trading center. Load packaged goods onto your horse at any stable, or onto a wagon at a wagon depot. Wagons can carry much larger quantities than a horse, making them essential for bulk trade runs. You must have the Stables and Wagon Shop built at your camp to use these features. Completing the Timberturner Wainwright missions unlocks and upgrades the trade wagon.
Selling at Trading Centers
Packaged goods can be sold at two types of trading centers:
Trading Center | Location | Details |
|---|---|---|
Goldleaf Guildhouse | South of Unicorn Cliff | Managed by Ugmon, found on the west side. Requires a minimum of 25 units of a single good per transaction. Displays current buy/sell price trends. |
Royal Trading Post | Inside major cities (e.g., Hernand, Demeniss, Varnia, Delesyia) | Automatically accepts goods upon arrival if they match the post's current buying list. |
Price Fluctuation
Prices at trading centers are not fixed. They fluctuate over time based on supply and demand at each location. Before making a trade run, you can preview prices by hovering over a Trading Center on the map, pressing Inspect, choosing the Trading Post tab, and scrolling through the "Selling Items" and "Buying Items" lists. The Goldleaf Guildhouse also displays current value trends for each good, showing what is cheap to buy and what is selling at a premium.
The core strategy is to buy low and sell high. Purchase goods when their price is below the market average, hold them if needed, and sell when the price rises above the standard rate. Because each trading post has its own independent economy, prices for the same good can vary between locations.
Other Selling Channels
Beyond the standard Goldleaf Tradeposts and trading centers, several other vendor types accept trade-related goods:
Vendor Type | What They Buy | Example Location |
|---|---|---|
Back Alley Shop | Stolen items and unpackaged trade goods | Southeast of Hernand (run by Grimrak) |
Wagon Black Market | Stolen wagons | East of Hernand, south of Halssius Apothecary |
Livestock Fence | Stolen livestock | Edmond, west of Muckroot Ranch |
Donating vs Selling
When speaking with Carl at camp, you also have the option to donate items as camp supplies rather than packaging them as trade goods. Donated items contribute directly to camp expansion and morale rather than generating profit. Decide based on what you need more: personal silver (sell unpackaged at a black market), camp funds for trading infrastructure (package and sell at trading centers), or immediate camp growth (donate to Carl).
Trade Challenges
Crimson Desert includes five Trade Challenges under the Life category. Completing all five unlocks "The Golden Merchant" trophy/achievement. Each challenge is started by finding a Sealed Abyss Artifact at a specific road location.
Challenge | Objective | Artifact Location |
|---|---|---|
Traveler with Oak Barrels | Meet all 8 inn owners across every region. | Road crossing in Pailune city center |
Rainbow Mane | Learn dyeing techniques from 7 named NPCs (Theoric, Monty, Pororin, Castiel, Laurick, Alton, and Cromac). | Roadside south of Alabastar Bridge in Varnia |
Mysterious Accessory Shop | Visit all 4 Witches' workshops. | Intersection south of Demeniss Castle in Demeniss |
Contract of the Golden Crown | Deliver packaged trade goods to Hernandian, Demenissian, Varnian, and Delesyian royal courts. | Road intersection northeast of Crimson Wall Shrine |
Magnate of the Golden Desert | Earn over 300,000 camp funds through trading. | Roadside east of Western Outpost in Delesyia |
Each completed challenge rewards one or more Abyss Artifacts along with bonus perks such as Solidarity, Service, Efficiency, or Life Transference.
Tips and Strategy
Early game: Focus on selling unpackaged goods at Goldleaf Tradeposts for silver. You do not need any infrastructure, and the income is immediate.
Check the map regularly: Red tent icons mark Goldleaf Tradeposts. New ones appear as you explore and unfog regions.
Steal from wealthy locations: Manors and noble homes contain high-value trade goods. Equip a mask from a Back Alley Shop (costs 10 Bronze) before attempting theft.
Invest in dispatch missions: The Freesword Dispatch System generates trade goods passively over time. Recruit companions with rare production skills to maximize output.
Scout prices before trading: Use the map Inspect feature on Trading Centers to check current buying prices. Sell when prices are above the market average.
Build your wagon early: The wagon carries far more goods than a horse. Complete the Timberturner Wainwright missions as soon as they become available.
Do not package carelessly: Packaging costs 100 Alms per item and is irreversible. Make sure you actually want to commit those goods to the packaged trade route before converting them.
Work toward Trade Challenges: The five Trade Challenges reward Abyss Artifacts and passive bonuses. "Contract of the Golden Crown" requires delivering packaged goods to all four royal courts, giving you a natural incentive to explore every trading post.
Trade routes can be long: Some routes span over 3,000 meters. Plan your trips efficiently and consider combining trade runs with other objectives in the same region.
