Overview
The All-Terrain Armored Gear (ATAG) is a mechanized combat vehicle available in Crimson Desert. Unlocked during Chapter 10: Counterattack, the ATAG transforms Kliff into a walking tank bristling with weaponry. The mech is introduced during the defense of Gorthak, the Ironflame Orc bastion in the Delesyia region, where mechanized creatures assault the fortress and conventional weapons prove insufficient.
The ATAG represents a dramatic tonal shift in the game, pivoting Crimson Desert's medieval fantasy setting into sci-fi action territory. The mech features multiple weapon systems including a machine gun, blast cannon, EMP discharge, and ramming capabilities, all of which can be upgraded through crafting. It remains usable after Chapter 10 as a summonable vehicle, making it one of the most powerful ground-based options in the game.
How to Unlock
The ATAG becomes available during the Secret Weapon sub-chapter of Chapter 10: Counterattack, approximately 50 to 60 hours into the main story. The unlock sequence involves:
Progress through the main story until Chapter 10 begins
Complete the quest Master of the Ironworks, which introduces the mech technology
Complete the quest Hidden Ace, where you learn to operate the ATAG
Defend Gorthak against the mechanized creature assault in Clockwork Insect Clash
After the story sequence, the ATAG remains available as a summonable vehicle. You can call it in Delesyia and other compatible areas from the mount selection wheel.
Base Weapon Systems
The ATAG comes equipped with four primary combat systems out of the box:
Weapon | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
Machine Gun | Rapid-fire | High rate of fire; effective against groups of smaller enemies. Best for sustained suppression. |
Blast Cannon | Explosive | Wide-area explosive shot; deals heavy damage in a cone. Best against clustered targets. |
EMP Discharge | Utility | Emits an electromagnetic pulse that disables nearby mechanical enemies and stuns organic ones. |
Ramming Maneuver | Melee | Charges forward at high speed, flattening enemies in the mech's path. Devastating against infantry. |
The machine gun is your bread-and-butter weapon for general combat, while the blast cannon serves as heavy artillery for larger targets. The EMP discharge is situational but essential against other mechanized enemies, and the ramming maneuver is the most satisfying way to clear a path through enemy formations.
Upgrades and Crafting
The ATAG can be customized with additional weapon systems and defensive improvements. Some upgrades are crafted at workshops, while others are obtained through companion dispatch missions:
Craftable Upgrades
Upgrade | Category | Description |
|---|---|---|
ATAG Fist | Melee | Close-range mechanical fist attack for devastating melee strikes |
ATAG Machine Gun | Ranged | Enhanced version of the base machine gun with higher damage |
ATAG Flamespitter | Ranged | Short-range flamethrower attachment for area denial |
ATAG Welder | Utility | Repair tool that restores ATAG durability in the field |
Dispatch Mission Upgrades
Upgrade | Category | Description |
|---|---|---|
ATAG Cannon | Ranged | More powerful version of the blast cannon with increased range |
ATAG Laser | Ranged | Precision energy weapon for long-range targeting |
ATAG Pincers | Melee | Grabbing mechanism for restraining and crushing enemies |
Heavy Plating | Defense | Increases armor value and damage resistance of the ATAG |
The Kuku Iron Pot
The ATAG is crafted and maintained at the Kilnden Workshop using the Kuku Iron Pot, a special crafting station. The Kuku Iron Pot is obtained through its own questline and serves as the foundation for all ATAG-related crafting and upgrades. Without it, you cannot create ATAG components.
Combat Strategies
Against Mechanical Enemies
Open with the EMP Discharge to stun and disable enemy mechanical units
Follow up with the Blast Cannon while enemies are stunned
Use the Machine Gun to finish off weakened targets
Save the Ramming Maneuver for emergencies or to break through encirclement
Against Infantry
The Ramming Maneuver is the most efficient tool against groups of foot soldiers
Use the Machine Gun for sustained suppression of ranged attackers
The Flamespitter (if upgraded) excels at area denial in tight spaces
General Tips
The ATAG has a durability meter. Once depleted, the mech becomes inoperable until repaired. The ATAG Welder upgrade allows field repairs.
The mech excels in open terrain where its ranged weapons have clear sightlines. Avoid narrow corridors where enemies can flank you.
Combine the ATAG's firepower with Greymane companion abilities for overwhelming force during sieges.
Delesyia Region Context
The Delesyia region is where players first encounter advanced mechanical technology. The region's southeastern area features active railroad tracks, and players can also find the Delesyia Train, which can be grappled onto and ridden as an alternative form of transportation.
Other mechanical vehicles in Delesyia include the Scout Automaton (craftable at the Delesyia Workshop with a blueprint, featuring infinite stamina and a built-in lantern) and the Siege Walker (a rare blueprint drop from Delesyian Automaton bosses, featuring missile systems and AoE damage).
