Packaged Goods
A comprehensive guide to the packaged goods system in Crimson Desert, covering how to unlock packaging through Greymane Camp, working with Bryce and Carl, wagon crafting and management, packaging costs, trade vendors, price fluctuation, and maximizing camp fund profits.
Overview
Packaged goods are the backbone of the large-scale trading economy in Crimson Desert. Unlike selling unpackaged trade goods at black market vendors for personal silver, the packaged goods system generates camp funds (Alms) that fuel your Greymane Camp expansion and upgrades. The system involves packaging surplus camp resources, loading them onto a wagon, transporting them to trade vendors across Pywel, and selling at the best available prices. It requires more infrastructure and planning than simple black market sales, but the payoff is substantially higher.
Unlocking the Packaged Goods System
The packaged goods system is not available from the start of the game. You must progress through the Greymane Camp storyline and complete specific requirements before you can begin packaging and selling goods.
Prerequisites
Complete the "Grounds of the Sunrise" quest line: This quest chain is part of the Greymane Camp progression and introduces you to the camp's commercial operations. It must be finished before the packaging menu becomes available.
Establish a trade agreement with the Gold Leaf Trading Company: During the quest line, you will negotiate a partnership with the Gold Leaf Trading Company. This agreement unlocks your ability to sell packaged goods at official trade vendors throughout Pywel.
Craft a wagon: You need a wagon to transport packaged goods. Wagons are crafted through a dispatch mission at the Timberturner Wainwright. This requires at least one Greymane recruit who has the Crafting skill. Without a skilled crafter among your recruits, you cannot build a wagon.
Key NPCs
Two NPCs at Greymane Camp are central to the packaged goods system. Understanding their roles is essential for managing your trade operations efficiently.
NPC | Role | Location | Functions |
|---|---|---|---|
Bryce | Wagon Manager | Manages your wagons. Handles wagon deployment, retrieval, and repairs. Can retrieve a lost or distant wagon for a fee. | |
Carl | Provisions Keeper | Packages surplus camp resources into tradeable goods. Access his menu to convert raw materials into packaged items. |
Packaging Process
Packaging converts raw camp resources into tradeable packaged goods. The process is handled entirely through Carl, the Provisions Keeper at Greymane Camp.
Step-by-Step Packaging
Travel to Greymane Camp and speak with Carl.
Open his "Manage Provisions" menu and navigate to "Camp Provisions."
Select the surplus camp resource you want to package.
Confirm the packaging. Each item costs 100 Copper to package, deducted from camp funds.
The packaged item is moved from raw camp supplies to your tradeable goods inventory.
Once an item is packaged, it cannot be unpacked. Make sure you genuinely want to commit those resources to the trade route before converting them. If your camp needs the raw materials for construction or crafting, hold off on packaging.
Sources of Goods to Package
Packaged goods start as surplus camp resources. There are several ways to build up a supply of materials worth packaging.
Camp surplus: As your camp grows, it produces surplus resources that accumulate in Carl's provisions menu. These are the most straightforward items to package.
Dispatch missions: The Freesword Dispatch System can produce unpackaged goods in bulk. Missions targeting silk, ceramics, tobacco, and other trade commodities generate large quantities that are ideal for packaging.
Gathering and crafting: Materials gathered from the open world or produced through crafting can also be donated to camp provisions and then packaged. This is a slower method but useful for supplementing dispatch output.
Wagon System
The wagon is your primary means of transporting packaged goods to trade vendors. Wagons have limited storage capacity, can be damaged during transit, and come in different quality tiers that affect speed and durability.
Crafting a Wagon
Wagons are crafted through a dispatch mission at the Timberturner Wainwright. To unlock wagon crafting, you need at least one Greymane recruit with the Crafting skill. Assign them to the wagon-building dispatch mission and wait for completion. The recruit's skill level affects the quality of the resulting wagon.
Wagon Quality Tiers
There are three wagon quality tiers. Higher-quality wagons cost more to craft but offer better storage capacity, faster movement speed, and greater durability.
Tier | Storage | Speed | Durability | Craft Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Basic Wagon | Small | Slow | Low | Low materials |
Reinforced Wagon | Medium | Moderate | Medium | Moderate materials |
Elite Wagon | Large | Fast | High | Expensive materials |
Investing in a higher-tier wagon pays for itself over time. The increased storage means fewer trips, and the better durability reduces the chance of losing goods to damage during transit.
Wagon Management
Bryce at Greymane Camp handles all wagon management. Through Bryce, you can:
Deploy your wagon to a wagon depot near a trade route.
Check the current status and condition of your wagon.
Load and unload packaged goods from the wagon's storage.
Retrieve a lost wagon: If your wagon is too far away or has been abandoned, Bryce can bring it back to camp for a fee.
Wagon Damage and Loss
Wagons are not invincible. If your wagon takes too much damage during transit, whether from bandits, rough terrain, or other hazards, the goods inside are lost. Keep an eye on your wagon's condition and avoid dangerous routes when carrying a full load. If a wagon is destroyed or stranded, speak with Bryce to retrieve it for a fee.
Selling Packaged Goods
Once your goods are packaged and loaded onto a wagon, you need to transport them to a trade vendor. Trade vendors are marked on the world map, making it easy to plan your routes.
Finding Trade Vendors
Trade vendors appear as icons on the world map. You can inspect vendor prices directly from the map before traveling, which is crucial for maximizing profits. Open the map, hover over a trade vendor icon, and check which goods they are buying and at what price. This saves you from hauling a full wagon to a vendor only to discover they are paying below-market rates.
Selling Requirements
Wagon proximity: Your wagon must be parked near the trade vendor to complete a sale. You cannot sell packaged goods from your personal inventory.
Minimum order value: Trade vendors require a minimum order value before they will accept a transaction. Make sure you are bringing enough goods to meet the threshold.
Camp funds: Revenue from selling packaged goods goes to camp funds (Alms), not to Kliff's personal silver. This is an important distinction. Packaged goods trading builds your camp's wealth, not your personal wallet.
Price Fluctuation
Prices at trade vendors fluctuate in cycles. Each vendor has its own independent economy with prices that rise and fall over time. The core strategy is simple: buy low, sell high. Check vendor prices on the map before setting out, and plan your trade runs to target vendors currently paying premium rates for the goods you are carrying.
Because prices cycle, a vendor paying poorly for silk today might pay top rates in a few in-game days. Patience and route planning are the keys to maximizing profit from the packaged goods system.
Relationship to Other Systems
The packaged goods system connects to several other game mechanics. Understanding these connections helps you optimize your overall economic strategy.
System | Connection |
|---|---|
Camp produces surplus resources that become packaging candidates. Camp funds earned from sales fuel further camp upgrades. | |
Dispatch missions produce trade commodities in bulk, providing the raw materials for packaging. Missions can also be used to craft wagons. | |
The wagon system is the transport layer for packaged goods. Better wagons carry more goods faster and more safely. | |
Royal Traders buy specific packaged goods at marked-up prices. They are one of the most profitable destinations for packaged goods. | |
Profits from trading can be converted to gold bars and invested at the bank for additional passive income. |
Tips
Always check vendor prices on the map before loading your wagon. There is no point hauling goods across Pywel if the destination vendor is paying below average.
Invest in the best wagon you can afford early. The storage and durability upgrades reduce the number of trips you need and lower the risk of losing goods.
Assign recruits with high Crafting skill to wagon-building dispatch missions for better-quality results.
Package goods in batches rather than one at a time. This helps you meet minimum order values at trade vendors more efficiently.
Keep raw materials in reserve for camp construction. Do not package everything; your camp needs resources for buildings and upgrades too.
Combine packaged goods runs with other objectives in the same region to make efficient use of travel time.
If your wagon gets stuck or stranded, talk to Bryce at camp. He can retrieve it for a fee, saving you a long trip.
