Overview
Mounts are rideable creatures in Crimson Desert that allow players to travel faster across the open world and engage in mounted combat. There are 171 distinct mount entries catalogued in the wiki (including wagon skins and variant forms); the in-game Knowledge Library tracks 29 core mount types at launch.

Mounts can be obtained through various means including taming wild animals, purchasing from vendors, or completing specific quests. Each mount has unique stats that determine its speed, acceleration, braking, and turning capabilities.

Permanent Legendary Animal Mounts
Patch 1.01 introduced three permanent legendary animal mounts that can be acquired through combat and crafting. Unlike temporary predator mounts that become hostile when dismounted, these mounts are registered permanently and can be summoned at any time. All three require access to a witch who can craft Abyss Gear, which becomes available in Chapter 5 of the main story.

The process for each mount is the same: defeat the legendary animal, skin it to obtain a unique crafting item, take that item to a witch to craft a Sigil of Solidarity, and then use the sigil from your inventory to register the animal as a permanent mount.
Silver Fang (Wolf)
The Silver Fang is a legendary wolf found at Howling Hollow. Unlike the other two legendary animal mounts, obtaining Silver Fang requires completing the legendary wolf quest chain first. After finishing the quest, defeat Silver Fang at Howling Hollow and skin the carcass to obtain the unique crafting component. Take it to a witch to craft the Sigil of Solidarity, then use the sigil from your inventory to register Silver Fang as a permanent mount.
White Bear
The White Bear is located northwest of Silver Wolf Mountain, south of White Waste Sanctuary. No quest prerequisite is needed. Simply travel to the area, defeat the White Bear in combat, and skin it to obtain the Claws of the White Bear. Bring the claws to a witch to craft a Sigil of Solidarity, then use it to register the White Bear as a permanent mount.
Snow White Deer
The Snow White Deer can be found along the stream by the giant "A" marker in Paylune. No quest prerequisite is required. Defeat the deer and skin it to obtain the Antlers of the Snow White Deer. Take the antlers to a witch to craft a Sigil of Solidarity, then use it from your inventory to add the Snow White Deer to your permanent mount roster.

Patch 1.06.00 Special Mounts
On May 10, 2026, Patch 1.06.00 added the Special Mounts system, an entirely new mount framework that sits alongside the launch roster. Eleven species can now be tamed into permanent registered mounts through a feed-to-trust flow rather than wild capture or kill-then-craft. Tamed Special Mounts live in a dedicated Special Mounts inventory tab, can be summoned at any unlocked stable, and accept saddles from supporting saddleries.
The eleven tameable Special Mounts species are Bear (Brown Bear and Clawed Bear variants), Camel (Sandwalk Camel), Wolf (Swift Wolf), Tiger, Lion, Raptor (Red-Feathered Raptor), Kuku Bird (Leaping Kuku Bird), Warthog (Rock Tusk Warthog), Goat (Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex), Deer (Snowwhite Deer), and Iguana. Each species has a fixed favorite food (meat for predators, grain or grass for grazers) and a regional spawn zone documented in detail on the Special Mounts page.
The basic taming flow is identical across species. Drop the species' food near a target animal, wait for it to approach and eat, and repeat until trust reaches 100. The Take In prompt then registers the animal as a permanent mount. The trust meter is no longer relevant once Take In has been confirmed. Eight saddleries across Pywel stock saddles for the new Special Mounts species, with each saddlery covering two or three species rather than the full roster.
Patch 1.07.00 Mount Additions
Patch 1.07.00 expanded the Special Mounts system in two ways. The patch added new wolf and bear variants to the registerable pool: rideable Large Wolf and Large White Wolf sit alongside the launch Brown Bear and Clawed Bear, and the patch line covering increased number of animals in the world that can be used as mounts widens the wild spawn pool. The change is intended to mitigate the area-liberation despawn issue, where clearing the surrounding outposts could leave a region without a fresh rideable spawn.
Patch 1.07.00 also added reins as a visible accessory on selected Special Mounts. The reins sit in the same equipment slot as the saddle on the Special Mounts inventory tab and ship from the same regional Saddleries that supply each species' saddle. Reins are cosmetic-only at present and do not change handling stats. The unequip option introduced in 1.06.00 still applies, so the bare-back look remains available for any tamed Special Mount.
For the full breakdown of every registerable species, the universal tame loop, food requirements, and confirmed spawns, see the Special Mounts page. For the catalog-style table that compares Special Mounts against horses, raptors, mechanical mounts, and other rideable categories, see All Mounts Comparison.
Patch 1.04 Cloud Cart Changes
Patch 1.04 significantly changed how the Cloudcart works as a mount. Before the patch, the cloud cart was a limited-use craft that could only be called briefly and was widely treated as a novelty rather than a reliable travel option. Patch 1.04 reworked it so that the cloud cart now functions as a permanent mount, summonable at will from the mount menu alongside your horse. It no longer disappears after a single use, and the summon issue where the cart could not be called has been fixed.
The patch also made the cloud cart crafting mission a one-time quest. Previously it could be repeated to re-craft the cart, but that loop has been closed: the mission now completes only once. Once you finish the craft, the resulting cart stays in your roster as a mountable vehicle permanently, and there is no need to re-run the mission to summon it again.
For players who did not keep up with pre-patch drops, the summary is simple. The cloud cart is now a real mount. It sits in your D-pad mount selector next to the horse line, and it is intended for vertical navigation rather than horizontal speed.
Cloud Cart Tiers
Three cloud cart variants are available as of Patch 1.04, each representing a progressively higher vertical ceiling. The base Cloud Cart is the entry tier, the Cloud Cart Cruiser is the mid tier, and the Sky Streaker is the highest tier with the strongest vertical lift. All three use the same summon controls and the same basic flight loop, but each upgrade extends how far up you can travel and how responsive the cart feels in the air.
Tier | Summary |
|---|---|
Base tier. The starting variant unlocked after completing the Patch 1.04 crafting mission. Capable of moderate altitude and is the functional permanent mount replacement for the pre-patch limited-use cart. Best for reaching elevated vantage points near where you already are rather than covering long vertical stretches. | |
Upgraded mid tier. Improves on the base Cloud Cart with better altitude range and smoother handling in ascent and descent. Unlocked as a research or crafting upgrade once the base cart is in your roster. A good pick when you need to clear mid-height mountain ridges, upper palace tiers, or tall spire stacks without switching back to the dragon. | |
Top tier. The highest-ceiling cloud cart variant, built for reaching the tallest points in the world. Strongest vertical lift of the three and the variant most often chosen when you need maximum altitude. Still slower than aerial dragon flight in absolute speed, so it is best used for reaching a specific high point rather than cross-map travel. |
How to Summon
The cloud cart uses the same summon flow as the horse. Press up on the D-pad to open the mount menu, then swap between your horse and the cloud cart variant you have unlocked. Selecting the cart calls it in the same way the horse is called, and you can switch back and forth freely without having to dismiss one before calling the other.
Open-space requirement. The cloud cart is a large object, much bigger than a horse, and it needs clear ground space to materialize. Summoning inside a cluttered alley, a dense tree line, or a narrow cave mouth will fail or push the cart to the nearest open spot. Stand in a clearing, on a rooftop with enough room, or on an open plain before pressing summon.
R2 hold for altitude. Once mounted, the cart is steered like a slow aerial vehicle. Holding R2 maintains altitude and also drives the ascent and descent loop: press to climb, let go to level out, and use the stick input to tilt up or down. You can interrupt an ascent or descent at any time by releasing R2 and drifting at the current height. The cart is noticeably slower than the dragon, so expect ascents to take several seconds rather than a single burst, but the payoff is that you can deploy it anywhere in the world rather than only where the dragon is available.
Verticality. Use the cart for mountain peaks, palace spires, cathedral towers, and any location where the quickest path is straight up. It is not a replacement for long-distance horizontal travel.
Anywhere access. Unlike the dragon, which has specific unlock and usage conditions, the cloud cart is available from the mount menu wherever you are standing, as long as you have enough open space to summon it.
Tier selection. If you own multiple variants, the D-pad mount selector lists them as separate entries. Pick the tier that matches the altitude you need; using the Sky Streaker for a low fence is a waste of its ceiling.
Livestock Vendors (Patch 1.04)
Patch 1.04 added dedicated livestock vendors scattered across Pywel. These NPCs sell farm animals directly, removing the old dependency on wild capture or chance encounters for setting up a ranch. They are listed in the patch notes as a new category of vendor and are spread across multiple regions of Pywel so that most players will find at least one within reasonable travel distance of their camp.
The animals available for purchase from these vendors are:
Ducks in particular were previously hard to source through wild capture, so the new vendors noticeably smooth out the ranch-building loop. Cows, pigs, goats, and sheep were obtainable before but required travel or taming; buying them directly is faster and less situational. Chickens round out the small-livestock options. Combined with the existing livestock capacity upgrades at the camp, this gives players a straightforward path to a full working ranch without relying on the wild spawn table.
Patch 1.0401 Hotfix
Patch 1.04 introduced an unintended issue where summonable mounts were missing from the quick-slot menu on the directional pad. The Dragon Mount, the Bear Mounts, and other Legendary Mounts Guide entries simply did not appear as selectable options even when the player had unlocked them. The 1.0401 hotfix restores every summonable mount to the quick slot so it can be called into the world again.
If the dragon, the bear, or any other legendary mount was unlocked before the 1.04 patch, it will be present again in the summonable roster after the hotfix with no additional action from the player. The unlock state itself was never lost; only the quick-slot visibility was affected. After updating the game, open the mount quick slot and the previously unlocked mounts should be visible alongside the default horse.
Quick-Slot Default Behavior
After the hotfix, the quick slot defaults to the most recently unlocked mount rather than a previously preferred one. For players who have unlocked several mounts over the course of the game, this means the newest addition to the roster takes the default slot automatically.
There is currently no setting that lets players re-default the quick slot to an earlier preferred mount. A player who prefers to ride an older Legendary Horses entry or a previously equipped horse over the newest unlock has to manually scroll the quick slot to that mount each session. The default behavior is expected to become configurable in a later update, at which point players will be able to lock a chosen mount to the default slot regardless of unlock order.
Until that option ships, the practical workaround is the same as for any quick-slot cycling: open the directional pad menu, scroll to the preferred mount, and summon. The selection does not persist between sessions if a newer mount is unlocked in the meantime, so the cycle has to be repeated on the next login. See the All Mounts Comparison table for a quick read on which of the restored mounts suits each situation best.
