Overview
The Frostcursed Plate is a five-piece armor set in Crimson Desert that provides strong Ice Resistance along with respectable defensive stats and unique Abyss Gear modifiers. All five pieces are found scattered throughout the Demeniss region, hidden inside treasure chests tucked behind waterfalls, crumbling walls, and vine-covered passages. No boss fights are required to collect any of the pieces, making this one of the most accessible late-game armor sets in the game.
The set is especially valuable for players planning to explore the frozen northern territories, where blizzards and sub-zero temperatures drain health rapidly without adequate cold protection. Wearing the full Frostcursed Plate set provides enough Ice Resistance to survive in even the harshest snow biomes. It also makes areas like the Spire of Ringing Truth significantly easier to navigate, since that location inflicts constant frost damage on unprotected characters.
The Frostcursed Plate set consists of a Helm, Armor (body piece), Gloves, Boots, and Cloak. Two of the five pieces (the Armor and Cloak) are classified as Unique items, meaning they cannot be refined or upgraded at a Blacksmith. The remaining three pieces (the Helm, Gloves, and Boots) all come pre-refined and can be upgraded further at a blacksmith. The Helm also supports an Abyss Core slot, making it the only piece in the set that qualifies as Abyss Gear.
Set Pieces
The following table lists each piece of the Frostcursed Plate set along with its base stats. The Helm, Gloves, and Boots can all be refined, so their stats may increase with upgrades. The Armor and Cloak are classified as Unique and cannot be upgraded.
Piece | DEF | ATK | MV SPD | ICE RES | FIRE RES | Special Effects | Abyss Gear |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Frostcursed Plate Helm | 5 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | Daze Immunity; +0.2 HP every 1 sec | Yes (Refinement Lv 3, 1 Abyss Core slot) |
Frostcursed Plate Armor | 14 | 0 | +2 | Lv 7 | 0 | None | No |
Frostcursed Plate Gloves | 5 | 17 | 0 | 0 | 0 | Ice Resistance Lv 1; Damage Reduction 1.0 | Yes (Refinement Lv 3) |
Frostcursed Plate Boots | 5 | 17 | 0 | 0 | 0 | +10.0% Contribution EXP Gain; +2% Climb Speed | Yes (Refinement Lv 3) |
Frostcursed Plate Cloak | 3 | 0 | 0 | 0 | Lv 3 | Ice Resistance Lv 5 | No |
Combined Set Totals
When all five pieces are equipped, the Frostcursed Plate set provides the following combined totals:
Stat | Total |
|---|---|
Defense (DEF) | 32 |
Attack (ATK) | 34 |
Movement Speed (MV SPD) | +2 |
Lv 7 (Armor) + Lv 5 (Cloak) + Lv 1 (Gloves) | |
Fire Resistance | Lv 3 (Cloak) |
Damage Reduction | 1.0 (Gloves) |
Health Regeneration | +0.2 HP/sec (Helm) |
Contribution EXP Bonus | +10.0% (Boots) |
Climb Speed | +2% (Boots) |
Status Immunity | Daze Immunity (Helm) |
The combined Ice Resistance from the Armor, Cloak, and Gloves is among the highest available from any single armor set in the game, making the Frostcursed Plate the go-to choice for extended exploration in frozen areas.
How to Obtain
All five pieces of the Frostcursed Plate set are found inside treasure chests hidden in the Demeniss region. Several of the chests are concealed behind waterfalls, vine-covered walls, or narrow passages that require specific combat skills to access. No enemies guard the chests directly (although rock monsters patrol near the Helm location), and no boss defeats are needed to reach any piece.
The pieces can be collected in any order. The most efficient route is to start at the Sanctum of Expiation in the northwest and work your way northeast along the Denn River, then head north to The Smoking Lands for the body armor. Below is a detailed guide for finding each piece.
Frostcursed Plate Cloak
Detail | Info |
|---|---|
Location | Sanctum of Expiation, northwest Demeniss |
Required Skill | Blinding Flash (L1+R1+L1) |
Key Stats | DEF 3, Ice Resistance Lv 5, Fire Resistance Lv 3 |
Travel to the Sanctum of Expiation in the northwestern part of Demeniss. On the south side of the ruins, look for a door covered in green vines. Use Blinding Flash to burn away the vines and reveal a narrow opening. Crouch through the tunnel, then turn right at the first fork and right again at the second. The treasure chest containing the Frostcursed Plate Cloak is at the end of this passage.
The Cloak is notable for providing the highest single-piece Ice Resistance bonus in the set at Level 5, along with Level 3 Fire Resistance. Its 3 DEF is the lowest in the set, but the resistance bonuses more than compensate for it.
Frostcursed Plate Helm
Detail | Info |
|---|---|
Location | Chattering Rocks, northern Demeniss |
Required Skill | Blinding Flash (to burn vines) |
Key Stats | DEF 5, Daze Immunity, +0.2 HP/sec, Refinement Lv 3, 1 Abyss Core slot |
Head to the Chattering Rocks area in northern Demeniss. The rocks are located east of the Sanctum of Expiation. Look for a wall covered in green vines on one of the rock structures. Use Blinding Flash to burn the vines away, revealing a hidden room behind them. Open the treasure chest inside to obtain the Frostcursed Plate Helm.
Be aware that rock monsters patrol the Chattering Rocks area. You can fight them or simply sprint past to reach the vine-covered wall. Combat is not required to access the chest.
The Helm is the most important piece in the set from a gameplay standpoint. It is the only piece that can be refined at a Blacksmith, starting at Refinement Level 3. It is also classified as Abyss Gear, meaning it has one Abyss Core slot that can be filled with a core of your choice. The Daze Immunity effect prevents stun-like crowd control from interrupting your actions, and the passive +0.2 HP per second regeneration provides a small but constant healing effect during exploration and combat.
Frostcursed Plate Gloves
Detail | Info |
|---|---|
Location | Lunar Spirit Grotto, Denn River, Demeniss |
Required Skill | Stab (R1+Triangle, to dive through waterfall) |
Key Stats | DEF 5, ATK 17, Ice Resistance Lv 1, Damage Reduction 1.0 |
From the Chattering Rocks where you found the Helm, head east toward the Denn River. The Lunar Spirit Grotto is a small cave hidden behind a waterfall along the riverbank. Face the waterfall and use the Stab skill (R1+Triangle) to charge through the falling water into the cave. Inside, a treasure chest holds the Frostcursed Plate Gloves.
The Gloves provide a solid 17 ATK alongside 5 DEF, making them one of the more offensively oriented pieces in the set. Unlike the Armor and Cloak, the Gloves are refinable starting at Level 3. Their special properties include Ice Resistance Level 1 and a flat 1.0 Damage Reduction, which stacks with other damage mitigation sources.
Frostcursed Plate Boots
Detail | Info |
|---|---|
Location | Well of Tragedy Grotto, Denn River, Demeniss |
Required Skill | Stab (R1+Triangle, to dive through waterfall) |
Key Stats | DEF 5, ATK 17, +10.0% Contribution EXP Gain |
Continue upstream along the Denn River northeast from the Lunar Spirit Grotto. The Well of Tragedy is another waterfall cave located farther up the river. Use Stab to charge through this waterfall as well. The treasure chest inside contains the Frostcursed Plate Boots.
The Boots share the same 17 ATK and 5 DEF stat line as the Gloves but swap out Ice Resistance for a +10.0% Contribution EXP Gain bonus and a +2% Climb Speed bonus. The Contribution EXP boost makes them useful for players actively raising their Contribution level in Demeniss, while the Climb Speed bonus helps when scaling the rocky terrain of northern Demeniss. Like the Gloves and Helm, the Boots start at Refinement Level 3 and can be upgraded at a blacksmith. Note that the Boots do not provide any frost resistance of their own.
Frostcursed Plate Armor (Body)
Detail | Info |
|---|---|
Location | Mistshard Cave, The Smoking Lands, northern Demeniss |
Required Skills | Stab (to enter waterfall); Turning Slash or Force Palm (to break rock wall) |
Key Stats | DEF 14, MV SPD +2, Ice Resistance Lv 7 |
The body armor is found in Mistshard Cave, which is located north of Deadfire Mountain in The Smoking Lands subregion of Demeniss. Head north from the Well of Tragedy across open land until you reach a waterfall in the Smoking Lands. Use Stab to charge through the waterfall into the cave. Your path forward is blocked by a large rock; use Turning Slash (R1+R2) or Force Palm to smash through it. The treasure chest beyond the rock wall contains the Frostcursed Plate Armor.
The body armor is the crown jewel of the set. With 14 DEF (nearly half the set's total defense on its own), Level 7 Ice Resistance, and a +2 Movement Speed bonus, it provides the most impactful stat gains of any single piece. The Level 7 Ice Resistance alone is enough to significantly reduce frost damage in cold environments.
Companion Weapon: Frozen Anguish
The Frostcursed Plate set has a matching weapon: the Frozen Anguish, a unique two-handed sword found inside the Spire of Frost. The Spire is located in the northern part of the Eye of Ice region in Demeniss, near the border with Beighen and Pailune. Together, the armor set and the Frozen Anguish form a complete frost-themed loadout.
The Frozen Anguish comes at Refinement Level 4 with an ATK of 25, Attack Speed Level 1, and three built-in effects: Stamina Transference, Gale I, and Destruction I. It also has five Abyss Core slots, giving it far more customization potential than most weapons available at a similar point in the game. The Stamina Transference effect restores stamina on hit, which synergizes well with the Frostcursed Plate Helm's passive HP regeneration for sustained fights in cold environments.
To reach the Frozen Anguish, travel to the Spire of Frost and locate a frozen stone lantern on the southern side blocking a doorway. Smash the ice off the lantern, then light it with your own lantern to open the entrance. Inside, head underneath the staircase to find the treasure chest containing the sword. The Spire of Frost sits in a high-frost zone, so wearing the Frostcursed Plate set while collecting the weapon is recommended.
Stat | Value |
|---|---|
Weapon Type | Two-Handed Sword |
ATK | 25 |
ATK SPD | Lv 1 |
Refinement | Lv 4 |
Abyss Core Slots | 5 |
Special Effects | Stamina Transference, Gale I, Destruction I |
Location | Spire of Frost (Eye of Ice, northern Demeniss) |
Recommended Collection Route
While you can collect the pieces in any order, the following route is the most efficient path through Demeniss since the locations are roughly arranged from west to northeast to north:
Sanctum of Expiation (northwest Demeniss): Frostcursed Plate Cloak
Chattering Rocks (east of Sanctum): Frostcursed Plate Helm
Lunar Spirit Grotto (east along Denn River): Frostcursed Plate Gloves
Well of Tragedy Grotto (northeast, upstream Denn River): Frostcursed Plate Boots
Mistshard Cave (north, The Smoking Lands): Frostcursed Plate Armor
The entire collection run can be completed in roughly 15 to 20 minutes once you know the locations. Make sure you have the Stab and Blinding Flash skills unlocked before setting out, as they are needed to access most of the chest locations.
Required Skills
Accessing the Frostcursed Plate treasure chests requires two specific combat skills. Without these skills, you will not be able to reach some of the hidden locations.
Skill | Input | Used For |
|---|---|---|
L1+R1+L1 | Burning vines at Sanctum of Expiation (Cloak) and Chattering Rocks (Helm) | |
R1+Triangle | Diving through waterfalls at Lunar Spirit Grotto (Gloves), Well of Tragedy (Boots), and Mistshard Cave (Armor) | |
R1+R2 / varies | Breaking the rock wall inside Mistshard Cave (Armor only) |
Upgradeability and Unique Classification
An important detail about the Frostcursed Plate set is that two of the five pieces, the Armor (chest) and the Cloak, are classified as Unique items. Unique items in Crimson Desert cannot be refined at a Blacksmith and do not support Abyss Core slots. The Armor's stats are fixed at the values shown when you pick it up, and the same applies to the Cloak. This means the chest piece's impressive Level 7 Ice Resistance cannot be pushed any higher through upgrades.
The Helm, Gloves, and Boots are all refinable. Each of these three pieces starts at Refinement Level 3 and can be upgraded further at any Blacksmith using refinement materials. The Helm also has one Abyss Core slot, allowing you to customize it with a core that matches your build. The Helm's Abyss Core slot makes it the most flexible piece in the set, but refining the Gloves and Boots also yields solid returns since both contribute offensive stats (17 ATK each at base).
Despite the Unique limitation on the Armor and Cloak, the set's base stats are competitive with many refinable alternatives, particularly because of the exceptional Ice Resistance values and the Helm's Abyss Gear properties.
Practical Uses
Snow Biome Exploration
The primary purpose of the Frostcursed Plate set is surviving in Crimson Desert's frozen environments. The northern regions of Demeniss and the borders with Pailune feature blizzards, icy winds, and sub-zero temperatures that drain health without proper cold protection. The combined Ice Resistance from the Armor (Lv 7), Cloak (Lv 5), and Gloves (Lv 1) provides more than enough insulation to explore these areas comfortably.
Spire Challenges
The Frostcursed Plate set is highly recommended for tackling the Spire of Ringing Truth and other frost-themed Spire Challenges. These locations deal constant frost damage to players without adequate Ice Resistance. With the full set equipped, the frost damage is reduced to negligible levels, allowing you to focus on puzzles and combat instead of racing against a health drain timer.
The Frostwarden Quest
The armor set is closely tied to The Frostwarden side quest, which takes place in the Spire of Frost on the border of Demeniss and Beighen. Wearing the Frostcursed Plate set makes this quest significantly easier to complete, as the quest area is permeated by freezing cold. Completing The Frostwarden quest rewards the Frostwarden Plate Boots and opens access to the Passage of Malice Abyss branch.
Contribution EXP Farming
The +10.0% Contribution EXP Gain bonus on the Frostcursed Plate Boots is useful even outside of cold environments. Players who are actively raising their Contribution level can wear the boots (or the full set) while completing commissions and other Contribution-granting activities to accelerate their progress.
Comparison to Other Armor Sets
The Frostcursed Plate occupies a unique niche among Crimson Desert's armor sets. The following table compares it to some other notable sets:
Armor Set | Total DEF | Specialty | Upgradeable |
|---|---|---|---|
Frostcursed Plate | 32 | Ice Resistance, Daze Immunity, HP regen | Helm only |
Varies | Stealth, critical damage | Yes | |
Varies | Balanced defense | Yes | |
Varies | Silver farming bonus | Yes | |
Varies | High base defense | Yes |
The main trade-off with the Frostcursed Plate is that the two strongest defensive pieces (Armor and Cloak) are Unique and cannot be refined. While the Helm, Gloves, and Boots can be upgraded, fully refinable sets will eventually surpass the Frostcursed Plate in raw DEF and ATK. However, no other set provides comparable Ice Resistance, making it irreplaceable for cold-weather content.
Tips and Notes
You can collect all five pieces without defeating any bosses or completing prerequisite quests. Simply travel to each location in Demeniss and open the treasure chests.
Make sure Blinding Flash and Stab are unlocked before you begin. Without Blinding Flash you cannot access the Cloak or Helm, and without Stab you cannot reach the Gloves, Boots, or Armor.
The Helm's Daze Immunity is valuable in boss fights where enemies use stun attacks. Consider equipping the Helm even when the rest of the set is not needed.
The Helm's Abyss Core slot can be filled with any core. For an ice-focused build, slotting a core that boosts elemental damage or further increases resistance will maximize the set's cold-weather effectiveness.
The +0.2 HP per second regeneration from the Helm is modest, but it adds up during long exploration sessions. Over the course of a minute, it restores 12 HP without using any consumables.
The Boots' +10.0% Contribution EXP bonus is always active, not just in cold regions. Keep the Boots equipped while working on Contribution tasks.
If you are heading to the Spire of Ringing Truth or The Frostwarden quest, collect this set first. The Ice Resistance it provides turns these frost-heavy areas from survival challenges into comfortable encounters.
Although the set does not have a formal set bonus for wearing all five pieces, the combined Ice Resistance from multiple pieces stacks, providing maximum cold protection when the full set is equipped.
The body armor piece from Mistshard Cave accounts for nearly half of the set's total DEF (14 out of 32). If you can only grab one piece, prioritize the body armor for its Ice Resistance Lv 7 and high defense.
The Cloak's Fire Resistance Lv 3 is a nice bonus that makes the set slightly more versatile than a pure ice-focused setup.
After collecting the armor set, head to the Spire of Frost nearby to pick up the Frozen Anguish two-handed sword. It pairs naturally with the Frostcursed Plate for a full frost-themed build, and its five Abyss Core slots allow deep customization.
The Boots' +2% Climb Speed bonus is a small but practical perk when navigating the cliffs and rock faces throughout northern Demeniss. It stacks with other climb speed bonuses from accessories or food buffs.
Lore
The Frostcursed Plate set appears to be relics from an era when the Demeniss region was colder and more hostile than it is today. The pieces are scattered across caves, ruins, and hidden grottos, suggesting they were hidden deliberately rather than simply lost. The name itself hints at a curse tied to frost and ice, which may explain why the armor provides such exceptional cold protection; the metal was perhaps forged in, or tainted by, extreme cold.
The locations where the pieces are found (sanctums, grottos named for tragedy and spirits, caves in the Smoking Lands) paint a picture of a dark history. The Well of Tragedy, in particular, implies suffering associated with the armor's creation or the people who once wore it. Whether the "curse" is literal or metaphorical remains unclear, but the armor's power is undeniable.
