Overview
Burning is the baseline fire damage-over-time status effect in Crimson Desert. The target takes fire damage across the duration regardless of actions taken. Standard duration is around 8 seconds ticking every 2 seconds, while boss-sourced burns last roughly 15 seconds. Stamina regeneration is reduced by 20% while burning.
Burning is one of the seven main status effects in the game and the most consistent damage tool in the elemental kit. For the full comparison, see Status Effects.
How It Is Applied
Fire Imbue on melee weapons
Flame Strike skill
Fire oil-tipped arrows
Torches
Environmental braziers
Dragon and drake boss breath attacks
Standing too close to bonfires
Effect Details
Burning applies persistent fire damage on a tick, stacks from additional fire hits before expiry, reduces stamina regen by 20%, and visually coats the target model in rolling flames. The DoT continues to deal damage even while you are dodging or repositioning, which makes Fire Imbue the most consistent elemental application against bosses where uptime is uncertain.
Resistance and Removal
Rolling through water extinguishes burning instantly
Cooling Salve removes it on consumption
Fire-resistant armor shortens duration and cuts damage
Cold soups and tea buffs improve fire resistance
Combos and Interactions
Stacks with repeated fire application. Fire Imbue synergizes with fast-hitting weapons that can refresh the burn before it expires. Environmental rain shortens burn duration, and overheating biomes amplify ambient fire risk on the player.
Notable Enemies and Bosses
Flame-breathing bosses in Pywel apply 15-second burns, fire cultist enemies ignite players with oil bombs, and Flame Strike users in the campaign can chain burn ticks across multiple attacks.
Tips
Dive into rivers when burning to instantly extinguish.
Cook fire-resist dishes before dragon fights.
Invest in Fire Imbue for sustained elemental pressure.
Burn is the safest default elemental DoT for unknown matchups.
