Overview
Red and green vines frequently block paths, doorways, and treasure rooms throughout Pywel. These vines cannot be cut with melee weapons. Instead, you need fire or concentrated light to burn them away. Learning how to clear vines is essential because many hidden treasure chests, sanctum passages, and shortcut routes are locked behind vine barriers.
Method 1: Fire Arrows
The most common method uses a bow and a nearby flame source. Vine-blocked paths almost always have a fire source within reach.
Step 1: Equip your bow by holding L2 (PlayStation), LT (Xbox), or Q (PC).
Step 2: Walk toward a burning brazier, torch, or campfire. Aim your arrow directly into the flame and hold your aim until the arrowhead catches fire. You will see a small flame appear on the arrow tip.
Step 3: Aim at the vines and release. The fire arrow will ignite the vines and clear the passage within seconds.
Be careful not to knock over the brazier while positioning. If one fire source is not working, look for a different brazier nearby. You do not need special fire arrows in your inventory for this; any standard arrow becomes a fire arrow when dipped into a flame.
Method 2: Blinding Flash
The Blinding Flash ability can also burn vines without using any arrows. Activate Blinding Flash near vine-covered surfaces to divert concentrated light onto them. The vines will ignite and burn away after a few seconds. This method is especially useful when no fire source is nearby or you want to conserve arrows.
Notable Vine Locations
Location | What to Expect Behind the Vines |
|---|---|
Lioncrest Watchtower entrance | Vines block the main doorway. Burn them using the braziers in front of the tower to reveal the entrance and access the quest objective inside. |
Sanctum puzzle rooms | Multiple sanctums have vine-blocked passageways leading to treasure chests containing Abyss Gear, crafting materials, and silver. |
Ancient Ruins corridors | Vines cover side passages in Ancient Ruins that hide optional loot rooms and shortcuts through the dungeon. |
Cave entrances and cliffside paths | Some hidden caves across Pywel have vine-covered entrances that reveal treasure rooms, recipe scrolls, or crafting material caches. |
Burn vines near the Fusion Reactor Core to find a chest containing Odeck's Protector Plate Boots. |
Tips
Always look for a brazier, torch, or campfire when you see vines. Developers place fire sources near every vine barrier.
Keep a bow and some arrows equipped at all times. Running out of arrows at a vine barrier means backtracking to a vendor.
The Blinding Flash method works even on vines covering walls and ceilings, which can be tricky to hit with arrows at certain angles.
Burning vines often reveals multiple rewards at once. After clearing the vines, explore the entire room or passage before moving on.
Some vine barriers reappear if you leave the area and return much later, so grab the loot on your first visit.
