Blacksmiths overview
Blacksmiths are specialized NPCs found throughout Pywel who sell weapons, provide weapon refinement services, and handle Abyss Gear slotting. They are the primary way to upgrade your offensive capabilities in Crimson Desert. While tailors handle armor, blacksmiths focus exclusively on weapons and weapon enhancements.
Blacksmith locations
Blacksmiths can be found in most major towns across the continent and at the Greymane Camp:
Location Type | Details |
|---|---|
Major cities | Every large settlement in Hernand, Demeniss, Delesyia, and other regions has at least one blacksmith |
Greymane Camp | Your home base in Pailune. The camp blacksmith can be upgraded through base development to unlock higher-tier services |
Frontier settlements | Smaller outposts in remote regions may have basic blacksmiths with limited stock |
Blacksmith services
Blacksmiths offer three main services:
Service | Description | Requirements |
|---|---|---|
Weapon purchasing | Browse and buy weapons from the blacksmith's inventory. Stock varies by region and blacksmith tier. | Gold |
Weapon refinement | Upgrade an existing weapon to increase its base attack stats. Each refinement tier improves the weapon's damage output. | Gold, ore, crafting materials |
Abyss Gear slotting | Insert Abyss Gear augments into weapon slots. Common weapons have up to three Abyss Gear slots. | Abyss Gear items |
Weapon refinement
Refining a weapon is the main upgrade path in Crimson Desert. The process works as a tiered enhancement system:
Bring a weapon to any blacksmith that offers refinement services
The blacksmith displays the required gold cost and materials for the next refinement tier
If you have the materials, confirm the upgrade. The weapon's base attack stat increases
Higher refinement tiers require progressively rarer materials and more gold
Refinement costs scale with each tier. Early upgrades are inexpensive, using common ores found through mining in nearby areas. Later tiers demand rare minerals from specific regions, boss drop materials, or items purchased from specialized NPC vendors. Some upgrade materials are partially region-locked at higher progression thresholds, encouraging exploration of all five regions.
Abyss Gear slotting
In addition to refinement, weapons can be enhanced with Abyss Gear augments. Each common weapon has up to three Abyss Gear slots. These augments provide additional effects such as:
Increased attack speed
Higher critical hit chance
Bonus damage against specific enemy types
Elemental effects (fire, ice, lightning) added to strikes
Abyss Gear items are found throughout the world, often as rewards from Abyss Dungeons and boss encounters. Slotting and removing Abyss Gear is done at a blacksmith.
Greymane Camp blacksmith
The blacksmith at your Greymane Camp starts with basic services but can be upgraded through the camp development system:
Tier 1: Basic weapon purchasing and low-level refinement
Tier 2: Mid-level refinement unlocked. Broader weapon stock becomes available
Tier 3: High-tier refinement unlocked. Access to advanced Abyss Gear slotting services
Upgrading the camp blacksmith requires investing resources gathered through logging, mining, and other life skills. A fully upgraded camp blacksmith saves travel time since you can handle all weapon upgrades from your home base instead of visiting distant cities.
Blacksmiths vs tailors
Crimson Desert separates weapon and armor vendors into distinct NPC types. Blacksmiths handle weapons; tailors handle armor. Both follow similar refinement and slotting mechanics, but you need to visit the right NPC for each type of equipment. If a settlement has a blacksmith, there is usually a tailor nearby as well.
Tips
Check multiple blacksmiths across different regions. Each one may stock different weapon types suited to the local threats
Upgrade the Greymane Camp blacksmith early to avoid long trips back to cities for refinement
Refinement is more cost-effective than buying entirely new weapons. A refined weapon you are comfortable with often outperforms an unrefined weapon of a higher base tier
Save rare ores for weapons you plan to keep long-term. Do not waste high-tier materials on weapons you will replace soon
Experiment with Abyss Gear combinations. Some augments synergize, such as pairing attack speed boosts with critical hit chance
