Overview
The Lantern is a tool in Crimson Desert described as "a portable light for illuminating the dark." A candle or oil is placed inside an iron frame to produce light. It is essential for maintaining visibility during nighttime travel, and it also plays a role in discovering Memory Fragments and interacting with bonfires throughout Pywel.
Nighttime in Crimson Desert is extremely dark, similar in design philosophy to games like Dragon's Dogma. Without the Lantern, many wilderness areas become nearly impossible to navigate after sunset.

Uses
Nighttime Exploration
The Lantern is the primary light source for Kliff when traveling at night or through dark environments like caves and Abyss dungeons. The day-night cycle in Crimson Desert runs at a rate of one in-game minute per five real-world seconds, so nightfall arrives frequently during extended exploration sessions.
Memory Fragment Discovery
The Lantern is required to discover and activate Memory Fragments. When Kliff approaches a memory location while holding the Lantern, it starts glowing blue and emitting a pulse. Hold the Lantern steady in that spot and wait for the "Learning in Progress" bar to fill completely. Once it fills, you can equip the Visione to watch the memory.
Lighting Bonfires
The Lantern can be focused on bonfires found throughout the wilderness to light them. Lit bonfires serve as rest points where Kliff can sit, pass the time, and access resting options similar to beds.

Important Note on Controls
The button to shine the Lantern at something is the same button used to inspect objects and start conversations with NPCs. This means the Lantern can interfere with interactions if left equipped. Unequipping the Lantern through the radial menu before approaching NPCs or interactable objects is recommended to avoid accidentally shining the light instead of talking or picking up an item.
Related Tools
The Lantern is classified alongside other tools in Crimson Desert. Other tools include the Fishing Rod, Pickaxe, Logging Axe, Hoe, Shovel, Rake, and several farming implements. Unlike most other tools, the Lantern cannot be refined at a Smithy and has no attack value.
