Overview
The Disguise Cloak is a cloth cloak in Crimson Desert that provides 3 base defense and Ice Resistance Lv.3. It also grants the Civilian Disguise special effect.
Cloth cloaks provide Ice Resistance, making them effective against frost-based enemies, ice magic, and cold environmental hazards.
This cloak can be purchased from the Hernandian Back Alley Shop for 20.88 Silver.
In-Game Description
"A common cloak that blends into the environment. It is an utterly ordinary piece of equipment that can be found in any city alleyway across Pywel."

Elemental Resistance
Ice Resistance reduces damage from frost-based attacks, freezing status effects, and cold environmental hazards. This is valuable in snowy or mountainous regions, against ice-wielding enemies, and during encounters with bosses that use frost magic.
In Crimson Desert, cloak material type determines the elemental resistance: Cloth cloaks grant Ice Resistance, Leather cloaks grant Lightning Resistance, and Plate cloaks grant Fire Resistance. The Disguise Cloak follows this pattern as a cloth cloak providing Ice Resistance.
How to Obtain
Purchase from the Hernandian Back Alley Shop for 20.88 Silver.
The Disguise Cloak can be purchased from the Back Alley Shop, a shady vendor located southeast of the Church of Hernand in the Hernand region. Follow the main road east out of Hernand, past the large model castle on the left side. Turn left down the road and follow the track to reach the vendor. The shop is situated near Muckroot Ranch.
The shop is operated by a vendor named Grimrak, who also sells Masks (for roughly 10 copper), the Camouflage Outfit (23.74 Silver), ammunition, food supplies, keys, and crafting blueprints. This is also the vendor where stolen livestock and goods can be sold.
Civilian Disguise Effect
The Civilian Disguise is a special effect that reduces the likelihood of being recognized by guards and NPCs when in restricted or hostile areas. This is particularly useful during stealth-oriented quests in the main story where Kliff needs to infiltrate towns or enemy-held settlements.
The Disguise Cloak provides the Civilian Disguise modifier on its own, but combining it with the Camouflage Outfit (body armor, also sold at the Back Alley Shop for 23.74 Silver) creates a stronger two-piece disguise set. When both pieces are equipped, the disguise effect is more effective and enemies take longer to see through it. Equipping only one piece still provides some benefit, but the effect is weaker.
The Civilian Disguise does not make Kliff completely invisible or immune to detection. If you commit a crime while wearing the disguise, guards can still detect you. The disguise primarily helps when moving through areas where you would normally be questioned or attacked on sight.
Disguise Set Pieces
The following table shows the two pieces that form the civilian disguise set:
Item | Slot | DEF | Resistance | Special Effect | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Cloak (Shoulder) | 3 | Ice Res Lv.3 | Civilian Disguise | 20.88 Silver | |
7 | Lightning Res Lv.1 | Civilian Disguise | 23.74 Silver |
Usage Scenarios
Stealth Quests
Several quests in the main story require Kliff to enter areas undetected. Equipping the Disguise Cloak (or the full two-piece set) before entering these areas reduces the chance of being immediately spotted. This is especially helpful during missions that involve infiltrating Hernand City locations or faction-controlled zones.
Avoiding Bounty Detection
If Kliff has an active bounty from committing crimes such as stealing or attacking NPCs, wearing the Disguise Cloak can help when traveling through towns. Guards who would normally recognize a wanted fugitive are less likely to approach while the disguise is active. However, this is not a guarantee, and players with high bounties should still exercise caution. Bounties can be cleared at Confessionals by purchasing a Writ of Absolution.
Stealing and Crime
To steal items in Crimson Desert, you need a Mask equipped. The Disguise Cloak complements the Mask by reducing the chances of bystanders recognizing Kliff during or after a theft. When stealing, a red detection zone appears around Kliff. If spotted within this zone, a bounty (typically 5 copper for theft) is applied. The Disguise Cloak does not eliminate the -5 Contribution penalty per theft, which is unavoidable regardless of what you wear.
Refinement
The Disguise Cloak can be refined up to 10 levels at a Blacksmith. Each refinement level increases the cloak's base defense. Refinement requires specific materials and Silver, with costs increasing at higher levels.
Comparison
Ice Resistance cloaks form the largest group, with 11 cloaks providing this element. Here are some notable comparisons:

Tips
At 3 defense, the Disguise Cloak is among the strongest cloaks in the game by raw stats.
With 10 refinement levels available, investing in refinement can significantly boost this cloak's defense over time.
The Civilian Disguise effect provides utility beyond raw stats. Keep this cloak in your inventory even if you find something with higher defense.
The Disguise Cloak and Camouflage Outfit are both sold at the same Back Alley Shop, so you can pick up the full disguise set in a single trip.
The Back Alley Shop also sells Masks for about 10 copper, which are required for stealing. Consider buying a Mask at the same time as the cloak.
The Civilian Disguise effect is not a toggle. It is always active as long as the cloak is equipped. You do not need to activate it manually.
Even with a full disguise set, faction-specific checkpoints and story-scripted detection events will still recognize Kliff. The disguise primarily helps in open-world situations.
Ice Resistance is helpful in snowy or mountainous areas, against frost-wielding enemies, and during boss fights involving ice magic.

Hood Toggle
Interacting with the Disguise Cloak a second time after equipping it lowers or raises the hood. The first interaction equips the cloak as normal; the second press changes the silhouette without changing the gear slot. It is purely cosmetic but important for disguise workflows where keeping the hood up or down matters for NPC recognition.
Deer Disguise Application
Beyond the civilian stealth role documented above, the Disguise Cloak doubles as a deer-hunting aid. While worn it prevents deer herds from fleeing when the player approaches, which removes the chase phase of any hunting loop and makes skinning runs for longhorns far faster.
This is the preferred setup for the Refined Palmar Pill ingredient loop documented on Palmar Pill Recipe and Farming: equip the cloak, fast travel to the point west of Scholar Stone Institute, walk straight up to the antlered deer without triggering flee, and drop each one with a single Poison Arrow. Skinning yields a Longhorn per kill, which is the fastest of the three substitute ingredients for the refined pill recipe.
Cave Pickup Near Scholar Stone
The deer-variant cloak (sometimes called the Reindeer Cloak in older community videos) is hidden behind a fake wall inside a cave west of Scholar Stone Institute, close to the same deer spawn that will later become the farming target.
Travel to the cave cluster west of Scholar Stone Institute. Look for the specific cave adjacent to the leaf patch on that side of the map.
Enter the cave and locate the section of wall that does not match the surrounding rock texture. This fake wall conceals the cloak.
Use Focus Force Palm at the wall. Press L3 and R3 together to enter focused stance, then hold R3 until the targeting sphere glows, and release. The wall dissipates.
Pick up the cloak. If the pickup prompt does not show up, axiom-grip the item to collect it (a known workaround for an early-version bug).
Hunting Loadout Tips
Combine the cloak with a ranged build so each pack can be cleared from approach distance without entering melee.
The cloak grants meaningful Ice Resistance, which is a side benefit in the colder Scholar Stone Institute approach zones but does not stack well with fire builds.
Unequip the cloak before entering towns to avoid accidentally keeping a disguise active during civilian interactions.
