Cloaks
Cloaks are one of five Armor slots in Crimson Desert. Cloaks are unique among armor pieces because they primarily provide elemental resistance rather than raw defense. Every cloak in the game grants at least one level of resistance to fire, ice, or lightning, making them essential for surviving elemental attacks from bosses and environmental hazards.
Elemental Resistance
Cloaks are the primary source of elemental resistance in Crimson Desert. The resistance type is determined by the cloak's material:
Cloth Cloaks: Provide Ice Resistance Lv.3
Leather Cloaks: Provide Lightning Resistance Lv.3 (or Lv.5 for the Demenissian variant)
Plate Cloaks: Provide Fire Resistance Lv.3

Defense Values
Cloaks generally provide lower defense than body armor or headgear. The Demenissian Uniform Leather Cloak leads with 4 defense, while several cloth and leather cloaks offer 2 to 3. Some cloaks, particularly basic cloth variants, provide no defense at all. The value of cloaks comes primarily from their elemental resistance rather than their physical defense.
Disguise Cloaks
Several cloaks grant disguise effects, complementing the disguise system found in other armor slots:
Demenissian Uniform Leather Cloak: Demenissian Faction Disguise
Disguise Cloak: Civilian Disguise
Jack Cloth Cloak: Jackal Disguise
St. Halssius Priest's Cloak: St. Halssius Disguise
When using a full disguise set, equipping matching cloak, body armor, and headgear from the same faction strengthens the disguise effect.
Refinement
Cloaks with a refinement gauge can be upgraded through 10 levels at the blacksmith in Hernand. Refinement primarily increases the cloak's defense stat. The elemental resistance level does not change through refinement.
Tips
The Demenissian Uniform Leather Cloak has the highest Lightning Resistance at Lv.5, making it the best cloak for fights against lightning-based enemies and bosses.
Craft the Scarecrow Cloak early using Hay and Cloth Pieces for a cheap Ice Resistance option with 2 defense.
Swap cloaks based on the elemental threats in each area. Keep one cloth (ice), one leather (lightning), and one plate (fire) cloak in your inventory for flexibility.
Plate cloaks are the only reliable source of fire resistance in the game. Prioritize acquiring one before entering volcanic or fire-themed regions.
