Overview
Ranged weapons are armaments in Crimson Desert that allow players to engage enemies from a distance. Unlike melee weapons, ranged weapons deal damage without requiring the wielder to be in close combat, making them essential for players who prefer to fight from safety or soften enemies before closing in for melee engagements.
There are 71 ranged weapons currently known in Crimson Desert, spanning 9 distinct weapon types. Ranged weapons include traditional bows and crossbows as well as more advanced firearms like muskets, pistols, shotguns, and experimental technology such as blasters and spitters.
Weapon Types
Ranged weapons in Crimson Desert are divided into the following subcategories:
Type | Count | Description |
|---|---|---|
20 | Traditional ranged weapons that fire arrows with precision over long distances | |
11 | Long-barreled firearms developed in Demeniss for precise, powerful long-range shots | |
11 | Heavy ranged weapons that fire explosive or energy projectiles with devastating force | |
8 | Close-range firearms that fire a spread of projectiles, often with attached melee blades | |
7 | Compact one-handed firearms with quick draw times, popular among Demenissian nobility | |
6 | Electromagnetic weapons that project elemental streams of fire, frost, or lightning | |
5 | Heavy portable artillery that fires explosive shells with the highest per-shot damage | |
2 | Mechanical ranged weapons that fire bolts with high accuracy and stopping power | |
1 | Primitive weapons that fire poison darts to incapacitate enemies with sleep effects |
Combat Characteristics
Ranged weapons share several common traits that distinguish them from melee alternatives:
Distance Advantage: Ranged weapons allow players to damage enemies before they can close the gap, providing a significant tactical advantage in open terrain.
Ammunition and Reload: Most firearms require reloading between shots, creating windows of vulnerability. Bows and crossbows use arrows and bolts respectively.
Reduced Melee Capability: While equipped with a ranged weapon, melee attacks are generally weaker or unavailable unless the weapon has an attached blade (like shotguns).
Elemental Damage: Spitters and certain enhanced weapons can deal elemental damage (fire, frost, lightning), inflicting status effects that stack with physical damage.
Precision Bonus: Aiming for weak points like headshots can significantly increase damage output. Skilled marksmen are rewarded with higher damage per shot.
Range Variation: Different ranged weapon types have different effective ranges. Muskets and bows excel at long range, while shotguns and blowpipes are most effective at close to medium range.
Origins and Technology
Ranged weapon technology in Pywel comes from several distinct traditions. Demeniss is the center of firearms innovation, producing muskets, pistols, and shotguns that have spread throughout the continent. Pailune's warriors maintain a proud tradition of bowcraft, while the Ironflame Orcs of Gorthak forge powerful cannons. Experimental weapons like blasters and spitters represent the cutting edge of technology, sometimes incorporating Abyss components or the inventions of the legendary engineer Marni.
Enhancement
Most ranged weapons can be enhanced from +0 to +10 through the refining system. Each enhancement level increases the weapon's Attack stat. Higher enhancements require rarer materials, including Bloodstone, Scolecite Ore, and Abyss Artifacts. Some weapons (particularly spitters and certain crossbows) cannot be enhanced beyond their base level.
Grade Distribution
Ranged weapons come in five quality grades, each indicating rarity and power:
Grade | Description |
|---|---|
Mythic | The rarest and most powerful ranged weapons. Often tied to major story events or legendary figures. Extremely difficult to obtain. |
Epic | Strong mid-to-high tier weapons. Available through quests, merchants, and exploration throughout Pywel. |
Rare+ | Above-average weapons sitting between Rare and Epic tiers. Obtained through mid-level quests and specialized merchants. |
Rare | Solid mid-game weapons. Accessible from merchants, crafting, or basic quest rewards. |
Uncommon | Basic starter weapons. Often the first ranged weapons players encounter. |
