Waverider
Complete guide to the Waverider hoverboard in Starsand Island. Covers how to craft it during the Senior Crafter certification, required materials (Skateboard, Spirit Cube II, Flamecore Ingot, Solid-State Battery), Moonlit Forest access, hovering ability, and comparison with other personal transport options.
Waverider
The Waverider is a hoverboard in Starsand Island that hovers above the ground, providing smooth and fast personal transportation. It is crafted as part of the Senior Crafter certification and builds on the Skateboard as a base component. The Waverider is one of only three vehicles that can be used inside the Moonlit Forest, and its hovering capability lets players reach elevated platforms that other compact vehicles cannot access.
How to Get the Waverider
The Waverider is unlocked through the Crafter profession questline. To earn the Senior Crafter certification, players must craft a brand-new vehicle type using the Skateboard they made during the Apprentice Crafter trial. The Waverider serves as that new vehicle.
Reach the Intermediate Crafter rank by completing the earlier Crafter quests from Zerine.
Gather the required crafting materials (see the recipe table below).
Craft the Waverider at a Worktable II.
Take the finished Waverider to Zerine at the General Store to receive your Senior Crafter certification.
Crafting Recipe
The Waverider is crafted at a Worktable II. Several of its materials require progression into the Moonlit Forest and access to advanced crafting stations.
Material | Quantity | Source |
|---|---|---|
Skateboard | 1 | Crafted at Worktable I (3 Copper Ingot + 3 Softwood Plank) |
Spirit Cube II | 2 | Crafted at Worktable from Uncommon Ore Chunks (processed into Spirit Fragments) |
Flamecore Ingot | 5 | Smelted from Flamecore Ore found in the Harvest Yard area of the Moonlit Forest |
Solid-State Battery | 1 | Made on the Energy Converter |
Some of these materials are only available after opening the Bronze Gate in Mural Valley. Flamecore Ore specifically requires reaching the Harvest Yard within the Moonlit Forest. Players should plan ahead and stockpile Uncommon Ore Chunks from mining in the forest.
Features and Abilities
Unlike the Skateboard and the Verdant Breeze rollerblades, the Waverider hovers above the ground rather than rolling along it. This gives it several practical advantages.
Feature | Details |
|---|---|
Hovering | Glides above the ground surface, eliminating bumps and providing a smooth ride across any terrain |
Elevation Access | Can hover upward, allowing players to reach higher platforms and ledges within the Moonlit Forest |
Moonlit Forest Compatible | One of only three vehicles (along with the Skateboard and Verdant Breeze) allowed inside the Moonlit Forest |
No Fuel Cost | Operates indefinitely with no fuel, energy, rental fees, or durability concerns |
Hotbar Equippable | Can be placed on the hotbar for quick deployment from the backpack menu |
Controls
Action | Keyboard | Controller |
|---|---|---|
Ride / Dismount | Left Mouse Button | Right Trigger |
Move | W, A, S, D | Left Stick |
Jump / Hover Up | Spacebar | A / X Button |
Camera | Mouse | Right Stick |
Like the Skateboard, the Waverider can be summoned from the vehicle garage by pressing R. Riding the Waverider does not consume stamina.
Comparison with Other Personal Vehicles
The Waverider occupies a mid-tier position between early-game personal transport and the motorized vehicles available from Neona's G-Power Bike shop. It is the fastest of the three Moonlit Forest-compatible options.
Vehicle | Type | Moonlit Forest | Elevation Access | How to Obtain |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Land (wheels) | Yes | No | Apprentice Crafter quest | |
Verdant Breeze | Land (rollerblades) | Yes | No | Crafter quest from Neona |
Waverider | Land (hover) | Yes | Yes | Senior Crafter quest |
Reindeer | Land (motorbike) | No | No | Blueprint from Neona (29,800 Coins) |
Tips
Craft the Waverider before doing deep runs into the Moonlit Forest. Its hover ability makes navigating the dungeon floors significantly easier, and it is the fastest option available inside the forest.
If you previously discarded your Skateboard, you will need to craft another one (3 Copper Ingots + 3 Softwood Planks at Worktable I) before you can build the Waverider.
Uncommon Ore Chunks for the Spirit Cube II components drop from mining nodes inside the Moonlit Forest. Collect extras while exploring for other quests.
The Waverider's elevation hover is especially useful for reaching hidden treasure chests on elevated platforms within the forest dungeon.
