Realm Box
Complete guide to the Realm Box shared storage system in Starsand Island. Covers how to unlock it at Intermediate Crafter, crafting materials, portable inventory access, storage expansion to 72 slots, processing station integration, strategic placement tips, and comparison with regular storage boxes.
Realm Box
The Realm Box is a shared inventory system in Starsand Island, similar to Minecraft's Ender Chest. Any items placed in one Realm Box are accessible from every other Realm Box on the island. Build multiple Realm Boxes at different locations and you have a connected storage network that follows you everywhere. The Realm Box can also be opened directly from your inventory without placing it down, making it one of the most versatile storage solutions in the game.
The Realm Box unlocks at Intermediate Crafter tier in the Crafting profession. It is widely considered one of the most useful items at that tier and should be prioritized over other Intermediate Crafter unlocks.
How to Unlock
Reach Intermediate Crafter by completing Zerine's certification quests in the Crafting profession.
Purchase the Realm Box Blueprint from Zerine's General Store.
Craft the Realm Box at a Worktable II (or higher).
Crafting Materials
Material | Quantity | Source |
|---|---|---|
Alloy | 5 | Gold Ingot + Iron Ingot + Copper Ingot + Coal at Furnace II |
Starflare Core | 5 | Crafted at a workbench from Moonlit Forest materials |
Spirit Cube I | 3 | Obtained from Moonlit Forest exploration |
Hardwood Plank | 6 | Process Hardwood at a Woodworking Table |
Most of these materials come from or require resources gathered in the Moonlit Forest. You will need to progress the Explorer profession alongside Crafting to access the deeper forest zones where Spirit Cubes and Starflare materials are found.
How to Use
The Realm Box has two usage modes:
Placed Mode
Place the Realm Box on the ground in any building zone, just like furniture. Walk up to it and interact to open the shared inventory. You can build additional Realm Boxes and place them at different locations; all of them access the same inventory pool.
Portable Mode
This is what makes the Realm Box stand out from regular storage. Carry the Realm Box in your inventory, then open it directly from the Equipment tab: right-click the Realm Box and select "Open". You do not need to place it down first. This means you can access your shared storage anywhere on the island, at any time, without needing to find a placed Realm Box.
Portable mode is especially useful during long resource runs in the Moonlit Forest or while fishing at remote spots. Instead of running home when your backpack fills up, open the Realm Box from your inventory, dump excess materials into shared storage, and keep going.
Storage Capacity and Upgrades
The Realm Box starts at 48 slots and can be expanded by clicking the "Expand" button in the bottom-left of the Realm Box inventory interface. Each upgrade tier costs Spirit Cubes and Starflare Crystals:
Tier | Capacity | Upgrade Cost |
|---|---|---|
Base | 48 slots | Included in crafting cost |
Tier 1 Expansion | 48 slots (expanded) | 5 Spirit Cube I + 3 Starflare Crystal |
Tier 2 Expansion | 72 slots | 5 Spirit Cube II + 6 Starflare Crystal |
Additional expansion tiers may exist beyond Tier 2, but the game is in Early Access and the full upgrade path has not been fully documented yet. Even at 72 slots, the Realm Box provides substantial shared storage that supplements your backpack (which caps at 90 slots across 8 upgrade levels).
Processing Station Integration
A recent patch added an important quality-of-life feature: processing devices (Furnace, Cutter, Separator, and other crafting stations) now recognize items stored in the Realm Box. This means you can process materials directly from shared storage without manually transferring them to your backpack first. If you keep raw materials in the Realm Box, any crafting station on the island can pull from it.
This is a significant convenience when managing multiple processing stations across different locations. Keep your ores, wood, and raw materials in the Realm Box, and every Furnace and Cutter you own can access them.
Strategic Placement
While the portable mode means you technically only need one Realm Box, placing extras at key locations saves the step of opening it from your inventory:
Location | Why Place One Here |
|---|---|
Your main homestead | Quick access next to processing stations and storage |
Moonlit Forest entrance | Dump ores and materials between dungeon runs |
Favorite fishing spot | Stash fish without running home |
Secondary farm plots | Access seeds, tools, and fertilizer at remote fields |
Near crafting stations | Takes advantage of processing station integration |
If you have expanded to multiple home plots (up to 9 are available across three environments), a Realm Box at each plot means you never need to transport items between them manually. Everything goes through the shared pool.
Storage Comparison
Storage Type | Capacity | Unlock | Shared? |
|---|---|---|---|
Storage Box I | 18 slots | Available from the start | No (per-box) |
Storage Box II | 36 slots | Apprentice Crafter | No (per-box) |
Realm Box | 48-72+ slots | Intermediate Crafter | Yes (all Realm Boxes share one pool) |
Backpack (max) | 90 slots | 8 upgrade levels via bag expansion | N/A (personal inventory) |
Tips
Build your first Realm Box as soon as you hit Intermediate Crafter. It is the single most useful item at that tier.
Place your second Realm Box near the Moonlit Forest entrance. This is where shared storage matters most, since dungeon runs generate large amounts of materials.
Use portable mode during resource runs: open the Realm Box from your Equipment tab, dump excess materials, and keep exploring without heading home.
Keep emergency supplies (food, ammo, medicine) in the Realm Box so they are accessible wherever you are on the island.
Take advantage of the processing station integration. Store raw materials in the Realm Box and every Furnace, Cutter, and Separator on the island can pull from it directly.
The Realm Box does not replace regular storage boxes. Use Storage Boxes for items you want to keep sorted at a specific location (like cooking ingredients near your kitchen), and the Realm Box for materials you need across multiple locations.
Start gathering Spirit Cubes and Starflare Cores early. You need them both for the initial craft and for the capacity upgrades.
