Softwood Plank is the workhorse building material of early Starsand Island, cut from raw Softwood at the Cutter I. By consumer count it is the single most-used crafting material in the game, with well over a hundred furniture, station, and building recipes calling for it.
Cutting Recipe
Detail | Value |
|---|---|
Station | Cutter I |
Ingredients | 4 Softwood |
Output | 1 Softwood Plank |
Softwood comes from palm trees, coconut trees, weeping figs, and the small trees scattered across the whole island, and loose pieces can be picked up off the ground without an axe. The Cutter is passive, so planks accumulate while you play; most players run two or three Cutters in parallel to keep up.
Major Uses
Storage. Storage Box II takes 6 Softwood Planks + 3 Copper Sheets.
Stations. The Chopper I takes 5 planks; Cutter II takes 4, alongside metal parts.
Bus stops. Most stops in the bus stop reconstruction questline consume Softwood Planks (the Cloudrest Lake stop uses Bamboo Board instead).
Furniture and building. Fences, floors, walls, the Skateboard, and a long list of Worktable furniture all start from Softwood Planks.
Tips
Never stop cutting. Softwood Plank demand persists into the late game for furniture and decor, so leave a Cutter running on Softwood permanently.
