The Blueprint Library is a system for saving, sharing, and downloading complete building designs. After spending hours constructing a house, players can convert it into a layout that preserves the entire structure, every piece of furniture, and all decoration choices. That layout can then be reused in the same save, carried to a new save file, or shared with other players.
This is separate from crafting blueprints, which are item schematics that unlock the ability to build specific tools, weapons, stations, and furniture. Crafting blueprints are permanent recipe unlocks. The Blueprint Library deals with architectural plans for entire buildings.
When you convert a building into a layout, the following elements are stored:
Element | Details |
|---|---|
Structure | Walls, floors, roofs, doors, windows, stairs, foundations, and how they connect |
Object placements | Every piece of furniture, crafting station, and decoration, including exact position and rotation |
Decoration styles | Paint textures, colors, and material choices applied to each surface |
Pre-made layouts from vendors come complete with furniture, decor, and features like gardens or beehives. The layout captures everything about a finished building so it can be recreated identically.
Once you finish a build, you can save it as a layout through the building interface in Build Mode. The saved design becomes permanently available in your Blueprint Library. This works across save files, so a house you built in one playthrough can be brought back in a fresh start without rebuilding from scratch.
The developers specifically called this out as a feature for players who invest a lot of time in their builds: "spending hours creating the perfect home won't go to waste once starting a new savefile, but instead, it can be iterated on and brought back for consecutive playthroughs."
On PC, each saved layout is stored as a zip file in the game's local data folder. The path is typically: Users/YourName/AppData/LocalLow/SeedLab/StarsandIsland/steam/[SteamID]/Resource/BluePrint. File names follow a date/time format (YYMMDD-HHMMSS). This file structure is what makes manual sharing between players possible.
Layouts can be shared with other players through manual file exchange. The Nexus Mods community already hosts player-created layouts including modern houses, Chinese courtyards, A-frame cabins, and cozy farm designs.
To import a downloaded layout on PC:
Download the layout zip file but do not extract it.
Copy the zip file into the BluePrint folder in the game's AppData directory.
Launch the game, enter Build Mode, and open the Layouts menu. The imported layout appears under the Homestead category.
Official in-game sharing (such as Steam Workshop integration) is on the development roadmap but is not yet implemented in the current Early Access build. Downloaded designs can be edited and modified after placement, so they work as starting points rather than locked templates.
Lex's Woodworks (run by Alex) is the primary shop for purchasing pre-designed house layouts. It is located in South Starsand Town and is open 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Layouts are purchased using Coins or Glowing Shells.
Purchased layouts do not require you to separately gather the building materials or own the individual furniture blueprints. Buy the layout, place it on your land from your inventory, and the building appears fully furnished.
Eight preset house templates are available as starting options. Each shows all required materials upfront and can be modified after placement. The confirmed presets include:
Layout Name | Style | Tier |
|---|---|---|
Countryside Haven | Cottage aesthetic | Intermediate |
Retreat | Modern style | Intermediate |
Classic Courtyard | Traditional design | Intermediate |
Floating Oasis | Varies |
The remaining four preset names have not been fully documented in available guides. Layouts are organized by tier (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced), with more elaborate designs requiring higher construction proficiency and more expensive materials.
When you select a layout to place, the game shows the full list of required materials before construction begins. A few important notes about placement:
Ground clearing: Grass, rocks, and trees under a placed layout are not automatically cleared. You must manually remove vegetation, fences, and debris before placing. Use the multi-select tool in Build Mode for bulk removal.
Hidden debris from previous structures (such as old roof beams) can block placement. Switch to the overhead camera view to identify obstacles.
The developer has confirmed that automatic ground clearing when placing layouts is planned for a future update.
Each layout spans the full plot area, so clear the entire plot before attempting placement.
The building system offers three construction perspectives, each suited to different tasks:
Mode | Description |
|---|---|
Free-View Building | Full camera control for designing and constructing homes with walls, doors, roofs, and landscaping. Includes terrain editing tools, day/night cycle adjustment, weather preview, and batch editing for bulk select and demolish. |
Character Perspective | First-person or third-person view for decorating and furnishing interiors and exteriors. Transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces without loading screens. |
Local View | Zoomed-in focus for customizing smaller spaces like fish tanks, aquariums, or tabletop decorations. |
Build Mode is accessed with the C key on PC. Many building blocks can be resized after placement using large yellow arrows. The system supports eight paint textures: wood grain, brick, stone, gloss paint, matte paint, metallic paint, rough/micro cement, and ceramics.
When multiplayer launches with the 1.0 update in Summer 2026, the Blueprint Library is expected to become more prominent. The 1.0 release will also introduce the Modular Villa System for cooperative building:
Tip | Details |
|---|---|
Joint Ownership | Up to three friends can hold shared deeds to land and villas. |
True Co-Building | Furniture placement, room expansion, landscaping, and structural edits can be done collaboratively. There are no host-only limitations for building. |
Shared Living Progression | Multiplayer homes grow over time, supporting multi-floor villas (up to three stories) that reflect the group's combined progress. |
Save layouts before demolishing or remodeling. There is no undo, so having a backup means you can always revert.
Downloaded layouts from other players can be a good way to learn building techniques. Place one, enter Build Mode, and study how the structure is put together.
Layouts from Lex's Woodworks are worth browsing even if you plan to build custom. They come with curated decoration sets that can give you ideas for room arrangements.
Save before importing a layout from an external source. A known bug can occasionally cause buildings and furniture to disappear during import.
Nearly 1,000 placeable and decorative items are available across classic, modern, European, traditional, and whimsical styles.
