Overview
Certain cooked meals in Starsand Island grant temporary buffs that boost specific activities like farming, fishing, mining, and combat. Out of the 110 total recipes in the game, only 20 grant buffs. The remaining 90 recipes restore stamina or HP without any special effect. Buff foods are the meals worth planning around, since they can dramatically speed up your daily routine or give you a decisive edge in the Moonlit Forest.
How Buffs Work
Buffs activate immediately when you eat the food. Only one buff can be active at a time. Eating a new buff food replaces whatever buff is currently active. Eating non-buff food (stamina-only or HP-only meals) does not cancel your current buff, so you can safely eat regular food for energy without losing your active effect.
Each buff has a set duration measured in seconds of real in-game time. Durations range from 30 seconds (fishing buffs) to 240 seconds (farming, mining, and economy buffs). Some buffs can be stacked up to 5 times by eating multiple servings of the same food, increasing the bonus per stack. Single-stack buffs (marked as 1x) cannot be amplified by eating more.
You can check which buff is currently active by looking at the icon next to your stamina bar in the top-left corner of the screen. The remaining duration counts down in real time.

Complete Buff Reference (All 20 Recipes)
The table below lists every buff-granting recipe in the game with verified data from the game files. Recipes are sorted by category. Duration is measured in seconds of in-game time. The Stacks column shows how many times the buff can be layered by eating additional servings.
Farming and Gathering Buffs
These buffs target crop farming, resource processing, and material gathering. They are among the most useful daily-use buffs because farming and gathering are core activities throughout the entire game.

Fishing Buffs
Fishing buffs have shorter durations (30 to 60 seconds) but provide powerful effects that transform the fishing experience. Since fishing sessions are typically short bursts of activity, these brief windows are usually enough to cover a full fishing spot.

Combat and Exploration Buffs
Combat buffs are essential for Moonlit Forest runs and boss fights. The Pet Pal buff also falls into this category since it affects overworld creature interactions during exploration.

Luck and Economy Buffs
These buffs affect scavenging rewards, scratch card odds, and gashapon machines at the Chrono Arcade. They are situational but can be very profitable when used at the right time.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Scavenger | Guarantees a reward item every time you search a trash can. No more empty results. | 240s | 1x | ||||

Lucky Spin | Slightly increases the odds of pulling premium furniture from the gashapon. | 240s | 1x |
Understanding Duration and Stacks
Buff durations and stacking behavior vary significantly between recipes. Understanding these mechanics helps you get the most out of each meal.
Duration Tiers
Buffs fall into four duration tiers. Shorter buffs tend to have stronger per-use effects, while longer buffs provide sustained bonuses over an extended work session.
Duration | Category | Recipes |
|---|---|---|
30 seconds | Steamed Fish (Never Skunked), Braised Crab Pot (Flow Fishing), Braised Fish (Underwater Treasure) | |
60 seconds | Fishing / Gathering | Pan Fried Dilis (Quick Reflexes), Red Grape Juice (Bonus Timber) |
120 seconds | Economy / Pets / Processing | Berry Daifuku (Pet Pal), Star Canelight (Scratch Master), Goldspike Blend (On the House), Prosperity Cake (Big Winner), Rosy Glow (Ready on the Spot) |
240 seconds | Farming / Mining / Combat / Scavenging | Fried Egg, Veggie Noodles, Mirthshroom Soup, Green Grape Juice, Suncloud Sip, Chicken Stewed with Mushrooms, Soup Dumplings, Seaweed Egg Drop Soup, Golden Fried Rice, Wishful Heart Cookies |
Stacking Explained
Buffs marked as 5x or 3x can be stacked by eating multiple servings of the same food. Each additional serving adds another layer to the buff, increasing its effect. For example, eating 5 servings of Green Grape Juice applies 5 stacks of Bonus Ore, giving you significantly more extra ore per mining swing than a single stack would.
Stackable buffs (5x): Veggie Noodles (Field Prep Mastery), Mirthshroom Soup (Creamy Seeds), Green Grape Juice (Bonus Ore), Red Grape Juice (Bonus Timber), Braised Fish (Underwater Treasure), Chicken Stewed with Mushrooms (Battle Spirit)
Stackable buffs (3x): Soup Dumplings (Forest's Gift)
Single-use buffs (1x) cannot be amplified by eating more. These include Fried Egg, Steamed Fish, Braised Crab Pot, Pan Fried Dilis, Berry Daifuku, Rosy Glow, Suncloud Sip, Seaweed Egg Drop Soup, Golden Fried Rice, Star Canelight, Goldspike Blend, Prosperity Cake, and Wishful Heart Cookies.

Buff Strategy by Activity
Farming Days
On days dedicated to farming, eat Fried Egg first thing in the morning for Watering Mastery. The 240-second duration covers a full watering session across multiple fields. If you are expanding new plots, switch to Veggie Noodles for Field Prep Mastery to reduce tilling stamina costs. Since Field Prep Mastery stacks up to 5 times, eating multiple servings before a big tilling session saves a significant amount of stamina.
If you are trying to farm Immortal Seeds, eat Mirthshroom Soup before harvesting. The Creamy Seeds buff stacks 5 times, and each stack increases your odds of getting an Immortal Seed drop. Mirthshrooms are free to pick up in the Moonlit Forest with no stamina cost, so stock up during every trip.
For bulk processing days, Rosy Glow (Ready on the Spot) is extremely powerful. It makes all processing and crafting complete instantly for 120 seconds, letting you blast through Separator queues, Charcoal Kiln jobs, and crafting bench items without waiting. The recipe requires 13x Sugar and 4x Red Grape, making it expensive but worth the cost for heavy processing days.
Fishing Sessions
Eat Steamed Fish before any fishing session. The Never Skunked buff eliminates the waiting period entirely, so fish bite immediately after you cast. This speeds up fishing dramatically and pairs well with profession quests that require catching specific quantities. The 30-second duration is short, but a focused fishing burst can land several catches in that window.
If you are targeting rare catches that tend to snap the line, use Braised Crab Pot for Flow Fishing instead. The unbreakable line guarantees you land whatever bites, which is especially valuable for high-tier fish.
For treasure hunting, Braised Fish (Underwater Treasure) is the best choice. It stacks up to 5 times, and each stack increases the chance of pulling a treasure chest alongside your normal catch. Eat 5 servings before a focused treasure-fishing session for maximum chest drops.
For beachcombing, eat Pan Fried Dilis to activate Quick Reflexes. This prevents you from startling shrimp and crabs, making shore catches much more reliable. The 60-second duration gives enough time to sweep a full stretch of beach.
Moonlit Forest Runs
For resource gathering runs, eat Soup Dumplings for Forest's Gift. The ammo recovery chance means you use fewer arrows overall, and the ore chunk drops add bonus materials to each trip. Forest's Gift stacks 3 times, so eating 3 servings maximizes both effects.
For boss fights against Crystalith, Glintortle, or the Ruin Guard, switch to Chicken Stewed with Mushrooms for Battle Spirit. The attack power boost stacks 5 times, so eating 5 servings before a boss encounter significantly increases your damage output and shortens the fight.
Mining and Woodcutting
Green Grape Juice (Bonus Ore, 240s) and Red Grape Juice (Bonus Timber, 60s) are the easiest buff foods to produce in bulk. Grow grapes on trellises and juice them at the Juicer. Both grapes grow across multiple seasons, so you can maintain a steady supply. Both buffs stack 5 times, so eat 5 servings before heading out for maximum bonus drops.
Note that Bonus Timber has a shorter duration (60s) compared to Bonus Ore (240s), so bring extra Red Grape Juice on extended woodcutting trips and re-eat as the buff expires.
Town Scavenging
The Scavenger buff from Seaweed Egg Drop Soup guarantees loot from every trash can you check. Pair this with an efficient route through Starsand Town, hitting all trash cans in a single pass. The 240-second duration is more than enough to cover the entire town. This is one of the most consistent early-game money strategies before your farm is fully established.
For better loot quality from trash cans, use Golden Fried Rice (Trash Treasure) instead. While Scavenger guarantees you always get something, Trash Treasure improves the rarity of what you find. If you have both recipes, eat Seaweed Egg Drop Soup for reliability or Golden Fried Rice when you want a shot at rarer finds.
Route Planning and Timing
For dedicated trashcan farming, the two key buff foods are Seaweed Egg Drop Soup and Golden Fried Rice. Both are available from the main restaurant in town and can be crafted once their recipes are unlocked. When active, these buffs provide guaranteed loot on every trashcan interaction. Without them, trashcan drops are inconsistent and minimal.
The buff window is time-limited. You will know it has expired when trashcans stop consistently dropping items. Plan your scavenging route through town residential zones before eating the buff food so you can move efficiently between containers during the active window. Clear inventory space beforehand because trashcan farming yields a wide variety of items.
Trashcan Loot Categories
Category | Example Drops |
|---|---|
Mechanical Materials | Gears |
Ores and Ingots | |
Food Items | |
Recipes | Minimalist Trash Can Recipe, Blue/Green Trash Can Recipe variants |
This method avoids durability loss, combat risk, and health drain, making it particularly suitable for players seeking consistent, low-risk resource farming. The recipe drops are especially valuable because trash can furniture blueprints cannot be obtained any other way.
Scratch Card Runs at the Chrono Arcade
Three buffs specifically target scratch cards at the Chrono Arcade. For maximum earnings, combine them across multiple visits:
Buff Food | Effect |
|---|---|
Star Canelight (Scratch Master) | Adds 1 lucky number to your card, directly boosting win rates. Also has a chance for a full refund. |
Goldspike Blend (On the House) | Gives a chance to get your scratch card purchase price refunded entirely. |
Prosperity Cake (Big Winner) | Increases the payout amounts on winning scratch cards. |
Since only one buff can be active at a time, you cannot stack all three simultaneously. Rotate between them across visits. Star Canelight is generally considered the strongest of the three because the extra lucky number directly improves your odds.
Gashapon and Pet Taming
Eat Wishful Heart Cookies before using gashapon machines to activate Lucky Spin. The 240-second duration gives plenty of time to pull multiple capsules with improved odds of premium furniture.
For pet taming, eat Berry Daifuku to activate Pet Pal. Wild animals will approach you instead of running away, and interacting with them grants a large Affection boost. Note that this buff disappears after being triggered once, so bring multiple Berry Daifuku if you plan to tame several pets in one session.

Nutrient Absorption Skill
The Nutrient Absorption skill in the Workpedia increases the energy and HP restored by all food. This does not directly affect buff strength or duration, but it means each buff meal also restores more stamina, reducing the need to eat non-buff food during the day. Unlock this skill early to get more value from every meal.
Tips
Cook buff foods in batches. Since cooking takes real in-game time, prepare 5 to 10 servings of your most-used buff foods and keep them in a chest near your kitchen.
Buy all recipes from Aureleaf Kitchen as soon as you can afford them. Several buff recipes are only available from the shop register.
Mirthshrooms are free to pick up in the Moonlit Forest with no stamina cost. Grab them every trip even if you do not need the Creamy Seeds buff immediately.
The Separator is the bottleneck for most buff recipes. Keep it stocked with Wheat (for Flour), vegetables (for Vegetable Juice), and fish (for Fish Fillet) at all times.
For stackable buffs (5x or 3x), always eat the full number of servings before starting the activity. The increased bonus per stack is multiplicative, not additive, so max stacks provide substantially more benefit than a single serving.
Eating any non-buff food does not remove your current buff. Only eating a different buff food replaces it. This means you can safely eat stamina food mid-session without losing your active buff.
Green Grape Juice and Red Grape Juice are the easiest buff foods to mass-produce. Grow grapes on trellises, harvest each season, and juice them in bulk.
Goldspike Blend (12x Wheat), Rosy Glow (13x Sugar, 4x Red Grape), and Suncloud Sip (12x Wheat, 1x Corn) are available from the very start of the game with no unlock needed. These are great early-game buffs while you work toward unlocking the profession trial recipes.
Build 2 to 3 Campfires or Gas Stoves to cook multiple buff meals simultaneously. Parallel cooking stations dramatically increase your food output.
