Pickling Jar
The Pickling Jar is a crafting station in Starsand Island that converts vegetables and salt into pickled vegetables. Pickled items are intermediate cooking ingredients used in salads, side dishes, and specialty recipes. They are also a highly profitable trade good when sold in bulk, making the Pickling Jar one of the best late-game money-making stations.
How to Unlock
The Pickling Jar Blueprint is purchased from the Happiness Seed Shop in Starsand Town for 2,000 coins. You must first earn Intermediate Farmer certification by completing Graminova's Intermediate Farmer trial quests. This makes the Pickling Jar the last of the three food processing stations to unlock, after the Jam Maker and Brewing Barrel (both Junior Farmer).
The Happiness Seed Shop is located next to Ethereal Styles near the plaza in Starsand Town. After buying the blueprint, build the Pickling Jar at your Worktable and place it near your kitchen or other processing stations.
How It Works
Load the Pickling Jar with 2 vegetables of the same type plus Salt. The fermentation process takes approximately 1 to 2 in-game days to complete, after which the jar produces the corresponding pickled product. Different vegetables produce different pickled items.
Input | Source |
|---|---|
Vegetables (same type, x2) | Harvested from farmland crops |
Salt | Produced at the Charcoal Kiln using Salt Brick and Fiber |
Pickled vegetables are not edible on their own. They are intermediate cooking ingredients used in recipes that call for pickled products. Some pickled items also appear as requests on the Bulletin Board, making them useful for completing daily tasks.
All Pickled Products
The Pickling Jar can produce 9 different pickled products. The variety depends on which vegetable you load into the station.
Product | Vegetable Input | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Pickled Cabbage | Cabbage (x2) + Salt | Cabbage is a Spring/Autumn crop with short growth time |
Pickled Carrot | Carrot (x2) + Salt | Carrots grow in Spring and Autumn |
Pickled Cherry Radish | Cherry Radish (x2) + Salt | Fast-growing crop; good for early pickling |
Pickled Cucumber | Cucumber (x2) + Salt | Summer crop; popular for GMax scaling |
Pickled Leek | Leek (x2) + Salt | Winter crop |
Pickled Pumpkin | Pumpkin (x2) + Salt | Autumn crop |
Pickled Water Spinach | Water Spinach (x2) + Salt | Summer crop; grows in 1 day |
Pickled Winter Melon | Winter Melon (x2) + Salt | Summer crop |
Pickled Winter Canola | Winter Canola (x2) + Salt | Winter crop |
Sell Prices and Profit
Pickled vegetables sell for approximately 300 to 600 coins each, depending on the vegetable type and quality. This is significantly more than the raw vegetable sell price, making pickling one of the most profitable processing methods in the game.
For maximum profit, sell pickled goods at the Merchant Ship at Starsand Port. The Merchant Ship pays roughly double the standard vendor price (200% value), and pickled items frequently appear on the ship's weekly buying orders. A batch of pickled goods sold at the Merchant Ship can generate substantial income.
Late-Game Money Making
The Pickling Jar is one of the strongest late-game money-making tools when scaled up. The strategy involves building many jars and running them simultaneously.
Plant large fields of fast-growing vegetables. Water Spinach (1-day growth) and Cabbage are popular choices for their quick turnaround.
Keep a steady salt supply. The Charcoal Kiln produces Salt from Salt Brick and Fiber.
Build 20 or more Pickling Jars and cluster them together for efficient loading and collection.
Load each jar with 2 vegetables and salt. After 1 to 2 days, collect the finished pickles.
Hold pickled goods until the Merchant Ship is in port, then sell in bulk for double the standard price.
GMax vegetable variants (grown from GMax seeds) produce higher-value pickles. If you have access to GMax crops, prioritize using those vegetables for maximum coin return per batch.
Processing Station Comparison
The Pickling Jar is one of four processing stations that produce intermediate cooking ingredients. It requires the highest Farming profession level to unlock.
Station | Input | Output | Unlock | Blueprint Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Raw crops, fish, bugs | Flour, Sugar, Salt, Fish Fillet, etc. | Early game | Equipment Pack | |
Fruit (x2) + Sugar (x3) | Fruit Jams | Junior Farmer | 1,600 coins | |
Grains | Vinegar, Soy Sauce, Rice Wine | Junior Farmer | 1,600 coins | |
Pickling Jar | Vegetables (x2) + Salt | Pickled Vegetables | Intermediate Farmer | 2,000 coins |
Gift Warning
Several characters dislike pickled items as gifts. Most notably, Solara dislikes Pickled Water Spinach. Always check the gift guide before giving pickled goods to any NPC. Gifting a disliked item reduces friendship points.
Tips
Water Spinach and Cabbage are the best vegetables for mass pickling. Both grow quickly (Water Spinach takes just 1 day) and produce reliable returns.
Build the Pickling Jar alongside the Jam Maker and Brewing Barrel. Together, these three stations cover every intermediate cooking ingredient you will need for advanced recipes.
Place a storage chest next to your Pickling Jar cluster. Stockpile vegetables and salt there so you can reload stations quickly without running to your main storage.
The Pickling Jar's 1 to 2 day processing time is longer than the Jam Maker's half-day cycle. Account for this when planning batch production schedules.
Do not gift pickled items blindly. Several NPCs actively dislike pickled foods. Selling them for profit is usually the better use.
Pickled goods stack in your inventory, so storage is not an issue even at high volume. Stockpile between Merchant Ship visits for the best return.
