Overview
The Cutter is a passive processing station in Starsand Island that saws raw wood and metal into planks, boards, sheets, and other refined materials. You load materials into the Cutter, and it processes them over time while you go about your day. Come back later to collect the output. Along with the Furnace and Worktable, the Cutter is one of the three core stations in the Crafter profession pipeline.
The Cutter has three tiers. Each tier includes all recipes from the previous tier plus new ones, so upgrading never removes access to earlier products. It is classified as a "passive" station because processing happens automatically over time, similar to the Chopper and Charcoal Kiln.
How to Unlock
The Cutter I blueprint is part of the free Equipment Blueprint Pack available from the register at Zerine's General Store in Starsand Town. This pack also includes the Furnace I and Charcoal Kiln blueprints. Pick it up as soon as you start the Crafter profession with Zerine. Higher tiers are unlocked through Crafter profession certifications.
Cutter I
Detail | Info |
|---|---|
Unlock | Apprentice Crafter certification |
Build Cost | 10 Softwood, 5 Stone, 3 Fiber |
Products | Softwood Plank, Bamboo Board, Bamboo Strip, Copper Sheet, Glass Pane |
Softwood Plank is one of the most heavily used materials in the early game. You need it for building, furniture, fences, the Skateboard, and bus stop construction. Bamboo Board is required for certain bus stop variants like the Cloudrest Lake station. Copper Sheet and Glass Pane are also produced here, though Glass Pane can alternatively come from the Furnace.
Build two or three Cutter I stations early on. Since the Cutter is passive and takes time to process each batch, running multiple Cutters in parallel is the best way to keep up with demand for Softwood Planks.
Cutter II
Detail | Info |
|---|---|
Unlock | Junior Crafter certification |
Upgrade Cost | 5 Copper, 5 Hardwood |
New Products | Hardwood Plank, Iron Sheet, Gold Sheet |
Hardwood Plank becomes the new standard building material at this tier, replacing Softwood Plank in many mid-game recipes. Hardwood is gathered by chopping trees with an upgraded Axe. Iron Sheet is a critical ingredient for upgrading the Worktable to tier II and for crafting many Junior-tier tools. Gold Sheet is used in advanced decorations and some endgame recipes.
Cutter III
Detail | Info |
|---|---|
Unlock | Intermediate Crafter certification |
Upgrade Cost | 5 Iron Ingot, 10 Premium Wood |
New Products | Premium Wood Plank, Meteor Plank |
Premium Wood comes from chopping White Fig trees with a Machete (unlocked at Junior Crafter). Meteor Plank is an advanced material used for high-end construction and equipment. At this point, you are deep into the Moonlit Forest progression, since Iron Ingot requires Iron Ore from the forest. The Cutter III handles all endgame lumber processing.
Processing Recipes
Each recipe takes a set amount of real in-game time to complete. You queue materials and the Cutter processes them automatically. The exact processing duration varies by recipe, but most batches take a few in-game hours.
Product | Input Materials | Cutter Tier |
|---|---|---|
Softwood Plank | Softwood | I |
Bamboo Board | Bamboo | I |
Bamboo Strip | Bamboo | I |
Copper Sheet | Copper Ingot | I |
Glass Pane | Glass Brick (smelted from Quartzite at the Furnace) | I |
Hardwood Plank | Hardwood | II |
Iron Sheet | Iron Ingot | II |
Gold Sheet | Gold Ingot | II |
Premium Wood Plank | Premium Wood | III |
Meteor Plank | Lunar Crystal, Premium Wood | III |
Note: Iron Ingot and Gold Ingot are smelted at the Furnace before being fed into the Cutter. You cannot put raw ore directly into the Cutter.
Where to Get Raw Materials
Material | Source |
|---|---|
Softwood | Chop trees on the island surface with any Axe |
Bamboo | Chop bamboo stalks in the Bamboo Forest near Cloudrest Lake |
Hardwood | Chop larger trees with an upgraded Axe (Junior Crafter or above) |
Premium Wood | Chop White Fig trees with a Machete (Junior Crafter) |
Copper Ingot | Smelt Copper Ore at the Furnace I |
Iron Ingot | Smelt Iron Ore at the Furnace II (Iron Ore from Moonlit Forest) |
Gold Ingot | Smelt Gold Ore at the Furnace II (Gold Ore from Moonlit Forest) |
Lunar Crystal | Rare drop from deep Moonlit Forest zones |
Cutter vs. Chopper
The Cutter and the Chopper are both passive processing stations, and new players sometimes confuse them. The Cutter handles wood-to-plank and metal-to-sheet processing. The Chopper breaks down plant fibers and organic materials into products like Fiber Rope and Plant Paste. They serve different material pipelines and you will need both.
Tips
Tip | Details |
|---|---|
Build multiples | Two or three Cutters running in parallel halves (or thirds) your wait time. Softwood Plank demand is constant throughout the game. |
Upgrade in place | You can upgrade a Cutter to the next tier without picking it up first. The station keeps its position. |
Queue before bed | Load your Cutters with materials before sleeping. They process overnight, and you can collect the output in the morning. |
Place near storage | Keep your Cutters in a workshop cluster with the Furnace, Worktable, and Charcoal Kiln. Raw materials go in, refined products come out, and everything is within reach of your storage chests. |
Stock up on Softwood Planks early | You will need dozens of them for building, crafting, and bus stop quests. Start accumulating from Day 1. |
