Logging Robot
Complete guide to the Logging Robot in Starsand Island, covering how to unlock this Expert Crafter automation device, crafting recipe, placement, Robot Terminal integration, wood type collection by area, durability and maintenance, and strategies for efficient endgame wood farming.
Overview
The Logging Robot is an advanced automation device in Starsand Island that automates the harvesting of trees and collection of wood from designated areas. Like the Mining Robot, it is unlocked at the Expert Crafter profession tier and represents one of the final progression milestones for resource gathering. The Logging Robot chops trees, collects the resulting logs, and deposits everything into a linked Robot Terminal. For players who need large volumes of wood for construction, furniture, and crafting recipes, this robot eliminates the tedious cycle of chopping trees by hand.
How to Unlock
The Logging Robot blueprint becomes available when you reach Expert Crafter rank in the Professions system. This requires completing the full Crafter questline from Junior through Senior tiers. Once you achieve Expert Crafter status, the blueprint can be purchased from Zerine's terminal at the General Store.
Expert Crafter is a significant time investment. You will have already built and used every crafting station, completed numerous crafting quests, and unlocked all Worktable tiers before this blueprint becomes available. The Logging Robot is designed as a quality-of-life reward for players who have invested heavily in the Crafter profession.
Crafting Recipe
The Logging Robot is crafted at Worktable III. Its recipe requires advanced materials:
Material | Quantity | How to Obtain |
|---|---|---|
Steel Plate | 4 | Process Steel Ingots at the Cutter |
Ancient Gear Parts | 6 | Analyze Common Ore Chunks at the Ore Analyzer |
Spirit Cube Fragments | 2 | Analyze Uncommon or Rare Ore Chunks at the Ore Analyzer |
Circuit Board | 1 | Crafted from Copper Wire and Silicon at Worktable III |
Premium Wood | 8 | Harvest from Premium trees in deep Moonlit Forest zones |
The Premium Wood requirement means you need to have already ventured deep into the Moonlit Forest and be able to chop the highest-tier trees. Make sure to stockpile Premium Wood during exploration trips before attempting to craft this robot.
Placement and Setup
The Logging Robot follows the same placement rules as other automation devices. Place it from your inventory onto any valid surface at your Hopeland property or within a Moonlit Forest campsite.
For wood collection, the placement location matters significantly because different areas have different tree types. Placing the robot in a surface-level Hopeland area gives access to basic Softwood trees, while Moonlit Forest campsites provide access to Hardwood and Premium Wood depending on depth. Always place the robot where the wood type you need most grows.
The robot must be within range of a Robot Terminal. The Terminal stores all harvested wood until you collect it. Set up the Terminal first, then place the Logging Robot within the green connection indicator radius.
How It Works
Once activated and linked to a Robot Terminal, the Logging Robot operates on a daily cycle:
It surveys its assigned area for harvestable trees.
It chops each tree automatically, collecting all wood drops.
It deposits harvested wood into the linked Robot Terminal.
Trees respawn on their normal timer, and the robot harvests them again when they grow back.
The robot collects the same wood types and quantities you would get from chopping trees manually. It also collects any secondary drops like Tree Sap, Seeds, and Bark that trees normally yield. Everything goes into the Robot Terminal inventory.
Wood Types by Area
The type of wood the Logging Robot collects depends entirely on where it is placed. Different zones on the island and within the Moonlit Forest contain different tree types:
Placement Area | Primary Wood Type | Secondary Drops | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
Hopeland / Surface island | Softwood | Tree Sap, Seeds | Basic wood for early recipes. Abundant but low value. |
Evernight Forest (early Moonlit zone) | Hardwood | Tree Sap, Dark Bark | Mid-tier wood used in many intermediate recipes. |
Dreamfall Garden | Hardwood | Tree Sap, Fragrant Bark | Similar to Evernight Forest output. |
Deep Moonlit Forest zones | Premium Wood | Rare Bark, Luminous Sap | Highest-tier wood for endgame crafting. Best placement for long-term value. |
Wood Usage in Crafting
Wood is one of the most consumed resources in Starsand Island. The Logging Robot helps maintain a steady supply for all of these uses:
Building and upgrading structures on your Hopeland property
Crafting furniture, fences, and decorative items
Producing Charcoal at the Furnace (essential for smelting)
Crafting advanced tools and equipment at the Worktable
Building boats and vehicles that require Premium Wood frames
Producing wooden components for other automation devices
Durability and Maintenance
Like all robots, the Logging Robot has a durability meter. Each daily chopping cycle consumes durability, and the robot stops working when durability reaches zero. Interact with the robot to check its current durability level.
Repair using a Repair Kit crafted at Worktable III (Steel Plates and Copper Wire). Each kit restores full durability. Keep spare kits stocked so you do not have to interrupt the robot's operation. Alternatively, craft a replacement Logging Robot if you prefer, though repairing is more resource-efficient.
Automation System Integration
The Logging Robot is one of four Expert Crafter automation devices that work together through the Robot Terminal system:
Robot | Function |
|---|---|
Mines ore, stone, and ore chunks | |
Logging Robot | Chops trees and collects wood |
Collects forageable materials (mushrooms, flowers, herbs) | |
Bug Trap | Catches insects automatically |
Multiple robots can share a single Robot Terminal. A productive endgame setup is to place a Logging Robot alongside a Mining Robot and a Gathering Robot around one Terminal in a deep Moonlit Forest campsite, creating a comprehensive automated gathering station.
Strategies and Tips
Place the Logging Robot in the deepest Moonlit Forest zone you can access. Premium Wood is the most valuable wood type, and automating its collection saves the most time compared to manual harvesting.
If you need Charcoal in bulk, place a Logging Robot in a Softwood or Hardwood area and feed the collected wood straight into your Furnace. This creates a semi-automated Charcoal production line.
Run a Logging Robot on the surface (for Softwood) and one in the Moonlit Forest (for Hardwood or Premium Wood) to cover all your wood needs simultaneously.
Check the Robot Terminal regularly. Wood stacks take up space, and a full Terminal pauses the robot until you clear inventory.
The Logging Robot does not distinguish between tree types within its zone. It chops everything, so you will get a mix of the zone's available wood types and secondary drops.
Combine the Logging Robot with the Mining Robot for maximum crafting efficiency. Most advanced recipes require both wood and metal components, and having both automated ensures you never run short of either.
Repair rather than replace. The Repair Kit is cheaper than a full Logging Robot craft, especially considering the Spirit Cube Fragment cost.
