Overview
The Separator is a food processing station that converts raw crops, meat, fish, and bugs into refined cooking ingredients. It is one of the most important stations in the game because nearly every cooked meal requires at least one ingredient that starts at the Separator. The station produces seven of the eight base cooking ingredients: Flour, Sugar, Vegetable Juice, Fruit Pulp, Protein Powder, Meat Bites, and Fish Fillet. The eighth base ingredient, Fine Salt, is produced at the Charcoal Kiln instead.
If you plan to cook anything beyond the simplest campfire recipes, building a Separator early is essential. Many players consider it the first station to prioritize after completing the initial Crafter quests.
How to Unlock the Separator
The Separator blueprint comes from the Equipment Blueprint Pack, available for free at Zerine's General Store (specifically from the register at the front counter). This is a Starter-level blueprint pack tied to the Crafter profession. The pack also includes the Cutter I Blueprint, Charcoal Kiln Blueprint, and Furnace I Blueprint.
To access the Equipment Blueprint Pack, you need to begin the Apprentice Crafter quest line by speaking with Zerine. She will ask you to craft a Charcoal Kiln first as part of the introductory tasks. Once that is complete, the Separator blueprint becomes available for crafting at any Worktable.
Crafting Materials
Building the Separator requires only basic materials that are available from the first day of the game.
Material | Quantity | Source |
|---|---|---|
Stone | 3 | Mine rocks with a Pickaxe |
3 | Chop trees with a Stone Axe or better | |
5 | Cut shrubs and wild plants with an axe |
The total cost is minimal, making the Separator one of the cheapest crafting stations in the game.
All Separator Recipes
The Separator accepts a raw material and refines it into a cooking ingredient. Each recipe uses a single input type (or a category of inputs) and produces one output type.
Output | Input | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Wheat seeds available at the Happiness Seed Shop from Graminova | ||
Two alternative crops; both are farmable | ||
Any vegetable | Accepts Cucumber, Cabbage, Potato, Tomato, Leek, Garlic, and more | |
Any fruit | Accepts all fruit tree products | |
Compact, calorie-rich jerky that is slow to spoil | ||
Any fish | Accepts any fish caught with a fishing rod | |
Any bug | Accepts any insect caught with a Bug Net |
The only base cooking ingredient not produced by the Separator is Fine Salt, which requires a Salt Brick and Fiber at the Charcoal Kiln.
Where to Get Raw Materials
Wheat (for Flour)
Purchase Wheat Seeds from Graminova at the Happiness Seed Shop. Plant them on your farm, water daily, and harvest when mature. Wheat is the only specific crop required for Flour; no substitutes are accepted.
Beetroot and Sugarcane (for Sugar)
Both crops produce Sugar when processed. Beetroot seeds are available at the Happiness Seed Shop. Sugarcane seeds become available later in the game. Having either crop in rotation keeps your Sugar supply steady.
Vegetables (for Vegetable Juice)
Any vegetable works. Common options include Cabbage, Cucumber, Potato, Tomato, Leek, and Garlic. Grow whatever is in season or buy from shops. Vegetable Juice is used in many recipes, so keeping a large crop rotation of vegetables is a good habit.
Fruits (for Fruit Pulp)
Any fruit tree product works. Fruit trees take longer to mature but produce harvests repeatedly once grown. Plant several fruit trees early so you have a steady supply by mid-game.
Meat (for Meat Bites)
Meat cannot be farmed directly. Purchase it from Zerine's General Store. The four types and their prices are:
Meat Type | Price |
|---|---|
40 coins | |
40 coins | |
51 coins | |
60 coins |
Meat Bites sell for around 20 coins each, so processing meat at the Separator is not profitable on its own. The value comes from using Meat Bites in cooked recipes that sell for much more.
Fish (for Fish Fillet)
Catch any fish using a fishing rod. Common, easy-to-catch fish like Clownfish and Greasyback Shrimp work just as well as rare species for producing Fish Fillet. See the Fishing article for rod details and fishing locations.
Bugs (for Protein Powder)
Catch bugs using a Bug Net. Bugs spawn throughout the island depending on the season and time of day. Any insect works. See the Gathering Materials Guide for a full list of bugs and where to find them.
The Cooking Pipeline
The Separator sits at the very start of the cooking workflow. Raw ingredients pass through the Separator first, and the refined outputs then go to various cooking stations for final recipes.

Upgrades
As of the current version, the Separator has no upgraded tiers. Unlike the Worktable (I, II, III), Cutter (I, II), or Furnace (I, II), the base Separator handles all seven recipes from the start. There is no Separator II or III to unlock.
