Overview
The Workshop is a confirmed upcoming feature for Starsand Island, scheduled for release in May 2026 as part of a major update introducing MOD support to the game. According to the developer Post-Launch Roadmap, this update will integrate Steam Workshop functionality, giving players a platform to share and download community-created content directly through Steam's existing infrastructure.
The Workshop update represents a significant step in the game's development, opening the door for the community to create, share, and install custom content. This feature is not currently available in the Early Access build. All information in this article is based on developer roadmap announcements and community updates from Seed Sparkle Lab.
Confirmed Details
Steam Workshop integration is part of the May 2026 content update.
The update is focused on MOD support as its primary feature.
Players will be able to share house blueprints, custom designs, and mods through the Workshop.
Access will be through Steam Workshop integration, using Steam's standard subscription and download system.
The feature builds on the existing Blueprint Library system, which currently allows players to save building designs locally.
Expected Content Types
Based on the roadmap description and the game's existing systems, the Workshop is expected to support several categories of shareable content.
House Blueprints
The Blueprint Library already lets players save their building designs as reusable blueprints. The Workshop will extend this system by allowing those blueprints to be uploaded, browsed, and downloaded by other players. This means a player who builds an elaborate seaside villa can package the design and share it with the entire community. Other players can subscribe to the blueprint through Steam Workshop and load it into their own Blueprint Library for placement on their island.
Shared blueprints are expected to include the full structural layout (walls, floors, roofing, room configuration) and furniture placement. Players loading a shared blueprint will still need to gather or purchase the required materials to actually construct the building, so blueprints function as designs rather than free buildings.
Custom Designs
Beyond structural blueprints, the Workshop may support sharing of custom decorative layouts, garden arrangements, and farm configurations. The game's existing decoration system includes over 1,000 items, and players have created highly detailed interior and exterior designs. The Workshop would give these creators an audience and allow less design-focused players to benefit from the community's creativity.
Mods
The May 2026 update is explicitly described as a MOD support update, which means the Workshop will go beyond simple blueprint sharing. Full modding support could include custom items, texture replacements, gameplay tweaks, quality-of-life tools, and potentially new content additions. The extent of modding capabilities will depend on what APIs and tools Seed Sparkle Lab exposes to the community.
How the Workshop Will Work
Steam Workshop uses a subscription model. Players browse available content through the Steam Workshop page for Starsand Island (accessible via the Steam client or a web browser), click Subscribe on items they want, and Steam automatically downloads and installs the content. Unsubscribing removes the content cleanly.
For content creators, the upload process typically involves selecting the content from within the game, adding a title and description, choosing tags and categories, and publishing through an in-game interface that communicates with Steam's backend. The exact workflow for Starsand Island has not been shown yet, but it is expected to follow standard Steam Workshop conventions.
Connection to Existing Systems
System | Relationship to Workshop |
|---|---|
Blueprint Library | Local blueprint saves will be uploadable to Workshop. Downloaded Workshop blueprints appear in the local library. |
Build Mode | Workshop blueprints are placed using the same Build Mode interface used for locally saved designs. |
Modding and Mods | Workshop serves as the distribution platform for mods created with the new modding tools. |
Steam Integration | Uses Steam's existing subscription, download, and update infrastructure. Requires Steam client. |
Limitations
The Workshop will be available on the Steam version of the game. Xbox Series X|S players may not have access to Workshop content, as Microsoft's platform uses different systems for community content.
Downloaded blueprints still require materials to build. The Workshop shares designs, not free resources.
Mod compatibility is not guaranteed across game versions. Major updates may temporarily break mods until modders update them.
The feature is not available in Early Access. All details are subject to change before the May 2026 release.
